Happy August, Pisces!
Pisces: Your Month Ahead
Pisces, welcome to August. This month will give you new opportunities to enjoy work, fitness, and pets and to bring more attention to your marriage, business partners, and agreements.
Also, August will continue last month’s strong support for slowing down. You may feel more introspective as you review many areas of your life and see where you’d like to make changes. Along with this slower pace, you’ll enjoy some highly playful and creative energies that will spark feelings of joy and inspire you to try new pastimes and pleasures.
Read on to see how August’s astrology will affect you. If you allow yourself to do less, relax, and even take time off for rest or vacation, you can make this a memorable month for fun. Along the way, you’ll reconnect with your inner child, who understands that playtime is just as important as work and that shining your unique light—and even showing off a bit— bring joy and make life worth living.
August Astrology – Headline News
Your Work, Health, And Daily Routines
August begins with two planets in Leo:
- The warm and powerful Sun, who always shines his light freely and generously to bring joy and optimism to our world
- Mercury, who governs thinking, communication, and commerce and brings playfulness and curiosity wherever he goes
The Moon will link with the Sun in Leo from August 9 through 11, adding tenderness to prevailing energies before the Sun changes signs on August 22. In addition, we will experience a solar eclipse in Leo on August 11, and the Moon’s north node, which has been moving through Leo since May 9, 2017, remains in this sign and adds a sense of urgency and even destiny to this month’s energies.
Leo is a fire sign symbolized by the Lion, a proud, courageous, and dramatic animal whose noble bearing makes it a monarch among other creatures. The Lion’s star quality and good looks (especially that showy mane) attract attention, and Leos generally appear confident and can serve others through leadership. Yet this regal exterior sometimes masks a lack of confidence for fear that others may reject them, their talents, and their desire to share themselves freely. Making the most of this charismatic energy means living joyfully by being completely authentic, applauding ourselves instead of looking for validation from others, and being brave enough to share our unique light. When we do Leo well, our hearts sing with joy, we’re free to play like a child, and our passions inspire others to do the same.
Find out more about Leo in my article, Leo Time: Open Your Heart And Shine Your Light. Also, you can tune in to this sign’s fiery exuberance, affection, and loyalty with The Leo Meditation, an uplifting guided meditation.
For you, Pisces, planets in Leo always activate your sixth house of your job, health, and how your manage your life through helpful routines. This house also governs small animals, especially pets. The Leo planets this month can help you improve your work situation by upgrading your performance, making stronger bonds with coworkers, being more creative, seeking leadership opportunities or promotion, or changing jobs. These energies also may prompt you to address a health concern, join a gym, take a nutrition class, get a checkup or other medical maintenance, or try a new form of exercise. They also can inspire you to help animals, perhaps by volunteering at a shelter, pet sitting, taking a beloved pet to the vet or groomer, or adopting an animal.
Your Marriage And Other Agreements
On August 22, the Sun leaves Leo for Virgo, which will start the month of the Virgin. You’ll feel the energies shift from the warm and showy power of Leo to the health conscious, self-improving world of Virgo. This annual change brings us back down to earth, as playtime gives way to details and practical steps that help us schedule time more efficiently, enjoy better health, and manifest our heart’s desires.
For you, Pisces, planets in Virgo increase your focus on commitment because they bring energy into your seventh house of marriage as well as other committed partnerships and agreements. This area also governs competitors, mediation to resolve disputes, and peace. As soon as the Sun enters Virgo, you may spend more time with your spouse, get serious about someone you’re dating, review contracts and agreements with business partners, or research agents or other advisors to help your career. You also may feel inspired to seek business intelligence on competitors so you know how to adjust your marketing, or you may volunteer to support peace in your community or the world or consider mediation to resolve a dispute.
Eclipse In Leo Brings A New Start
Each year brings two sets of eclipses, six months apart. Typically, each eclipse period features a solar eclipse and a lunar eclipse; sometimes an extra eclipse may occur at these times, depending on planetary alignments.
Last month, we experienced both a solar eclipse and a lunar eclipse, which occurred at the new and full Moons. (For more on the parts of your life affected by last month’s eclipses, see your July horoscope.) This month brings a third eclipse in this set, a solar eclipse that will arrive in Leo at the new Moon on August 11.
Eclipses help move us forward by bringing needed changes, especially if they occur in a sign and degree of the zodiac already highlighted in your birth chart. With a solar eclipse, we look toward the future, and an opportunity may arrive to take us onward, upward, and into the new.
For you, Pisces, the August 11 eclipse may bring news or a fresh start in something related to your sixth house of work, fitness, health, daily rituals, and pets. Make time to reflect on how last month’s eclipses affected you and the people around you and open your mind and heart to new possibilities starting around August 11.
Life In The Slow Lane: Mars And Mercury Still Retrograde
Mars, the action planet, went retrograde June 26, and that will continue until August 27. Then, on July 26, Mercury also went retrograde, which continues until August 18. Retrogrades bring slowdowns, which can create confusion and frustration until we accept the need to step back, pause, and rest from our usual striving so we can gain valuable perspective before moving ahead again once the retrogrades lift.
As August begins, from our point of view on Earth, it looks as if both these planets are slipping backwards through the zodiac. By now, you probably have a good sense of what parts of your life have come to a halt and can benefit from rethinking how you want to apply your will and your intelligence in these areas.
Pay attention to what occurs around August 12. Mars will slip out of Aquarius and into Capricorn that day, pressing the "pause" button in a different house and area of your life.
Also, take some time to look back at what has happened since the retrogrades started and how you’ve handled them. If you’ve had to overcome challenges, give thanks for the time you’ve been given to perfect details and mull over your best course—an opportunity we often overlook when we’re rushing forward. Also, remember to enjoy your sense of humor, especially on days that bring sudden changes or require you to rework or revise projects and plans.

Uranus Goes Retrograde
On August 7, Uranus also will go retrograde until January 2019, joining many planets currently in apparent backward motion. Besides Mars and Mercury, we’re also experiencing retrogrades with Saturn, your ruler, Neptune, and Pluto as well as the "wounded healer," asteroid, Chiron. Unlike the inner planets Mercury, Venus, and Mars, these outer planets remain retrograde for many months.
From day to day, we generally don’t feel outer planets’ retrogrades as dramatically as we feel the inner planets’ retrogrades. On the other hand, because outer planets move so slowly and remain in apparent backward motion for such a long time, their subtle energies build up over time and inspire insights that help us make constructive changes. Meditation and other spiritual work can help us tune in to these planets to decide how to benefit from their power.
In the case of Uranus, this month’s retrograde is the first since this planet entered Taurus this past May. So we’ve had a taste of what Uranus in Taurus feels like and how it may affect us over the next seven years.
That makes the Uranus retrograde a great time to look back at what’s happened in your life since May 15. What changes have you seen, in your life and among your family and friends? How does this new era of Uranus in Taurus feel to you? How well are you harnessing Uranus’s powerful, electrical energy and gift for sudden change, spiritual awakening, and personal freedom?

Plan Your Month: Important Dates In August
This month brings several key dates to watch as you plan your month. Mark your calendar and take action (or rest) as recommended on the dates listed here so your efforts can bring progress in all areas.
August 1: Mars in your most private area makes a tough alignment with Uranus in your communication and siblings house. You may feel on edge, and others will be touchy, too. If you’re working on a secret project, avoid sharing information, especially with brothers and sisters, as word may leak before you’re ready to make your work public. Instead, focus on potential breakthroughs in your work or a travel or public relations activity and step back to gain perspective if sudden news or changes affect plans or a project related to health, spirituality, or education.
August 6: Venus leaves your seventh house of partnerships and agreements and enters Libra in your eighth house, bringing a loving touch and charm to relationships and potential financial gain through deep spirituality or joint financial arrangements. Meanwhile, the Sun tests Jupiter, affecting higher education, international concerns such as immigration and visas, publishing, employees and bosses, or health and possibly sparking passionate romantic or creative developments. Watch spending, remember how flexibility can enhance relationships, and be receptive to others’ heartfelt desires or beliefs.
August 7: Uranus, the zodiac’s change agent and spiritual awakener, goes retrograde for the next few months. Look back to May 15 to see how these early days of Uranus in Taurus have affected you. Also, Venus and Mars will make love across the skies in air signs, turning your thoughts to romance. If you’re in a relationship, schedule a private date tonight at an exclusive venue or at home, prior to ecstatic, soul-based lovemaking. If you’re not attached, enjoy solitude so you can meditate or go to a lecture about near death experiences, the paranormal, or spirituality, as you may meet someone there who intrigues you.
August 7 – 11: The Moon enters its balsamic phase, the "dark of the Moon" time before the new Moon. Slow down and review the past month since the last new Moon on July 12. Meditate, rest, and reflect on what you want to do in the coming month. Find out more about this mysterious monthly time in my Balsamic Moon Phase article. Also, this period is excellent for spiritual work, meditation, and prayer. See my article on How To Relieve Stress – Meditate At The Right Time for details.
August 8: Mercury and the Sun meet up in your sixth house of work, health, and fitness. If you work in a creative field, use this brilliant alignment to follow up on a proposal or polish your masterpiece to perfection. You also can benefit from inviting a former employee or colleague for coffee, reviewing hiring practices or resumes, or checking details on a sensitive document or contract. Look back at your health over the years and revisit a workout regimen or recipe ideas you once enjoyed, as they may help you again.
August 9: Venus in your shared money house disagrees with Saturn in your friends, associates, and charities house, creating challenges over investing in a friend or colleague’s business idea or donating to a cause. An authority may press you, or you may have to work hard to study financial ramifications of plans, especially to ensure your spouse and family are protected. Attend to your responsibilities, even as you take stock of your relationships and the demands on your time, bank account, and good will. Remain kind no matter what happens, especially if dealing with anyone assisting you with tax, loan, venture capital, or other financial areas.
August 10: Retrograde Mercury tangles with Jupiter, bringing confusion or inflated expectations related to business travel, international agreements or communication projects, an education concern, or a health issue involving an academic specialist. Avoid overpromising and wait to make decisions or financial commitments.
August 11: A new Moon in Leo arrives with a partial solar eclipse, signaling a new start in something related to your work, daily life management, health, or pets. An opportunity in one of these areas may come your way, and with Mercury and Mars retrograde, it could come from a past contact. Whatever happens may feel dramatic and could have a creative or artistic component.
August 12: Mars moves in retrograde from Aquarius into Capricorn. Until August 27, you will feel in slow motion when it comes to friends, networking, clubs, memberships, and humanitarian actions. If you’re working on a fundraiser, allow extra time to perfect it and use this time to get input from board members, mentors, or more experienced volunteers. Also, someone from the past may reappear, especially an old friend, and if you’re up for membership in an industry organization, word about your chances may face delays.
August 18: Mercury and Venus make a helpful connection, and Mercury ends its retrograde. New clarity can emerge for work projects, medical or surgical tests, something related to intimacy or spirituality, or a joint financial matter, and a coworker or finance professional may have insights that can help you make wise choices.
August 19: Jupiter and Neptune, your ruler, make a perfect angle, bringing higher love and a noble spirit to your personality, dealings with foreign people and cultures, higher education, overseas travel, and how you present yourself through personal style. Make time to meditate and pay attention to subtle clues or messages in dreams, as you may receive otherworldly guidance that can benefit you both materially and spiritually.
August 22: The Sun leaves Leo for Virgo, energizing your eighth house of sexuality, spiritual seeking, and all forms of shared money such as loans and gifts. Take a practical approach to all these areas, get the details right, and bring a spirit of loving service to all you do, especially in intimate relations and your soul’s progress. Enjoy the next month’s earthy, intelligent energies.
August 25: The Sun, Uranus, and Saturn connect harmoniously in what astrology calls a grand trine, creating a perfect triangle in the heavens. These planets will activate your relationship houses with stable earth energies, affecting dealings with siblings, your spouse, business partners, friends, associates, and groups to which you belong. You’ll have opportunities for breakthroughs, lasting closeness, and greater joy if you open your mind to creative solutions, find practical applications for airy visions, and make strategic moves for the long term.
August 26: A full Moon arrives in your sign, Pisces, in your personality, health, and meaningful projects house, bringing something to fruition. Also, Venus in your shared money house makes a challenging link to Pluto in your friends and associations house. You may see snags in a business negotiation if a powerful contact objects to terms. Use tact to reach harmony and leverage the Sun-Uranus-Saturn trine to bring stability, innovation, and commitment to whatever you create with others, and you have a chance of seeing a long term goal manifest.
August 27: Mercury in your house of work, employees, and helpful routines tangles with Jupiter in your house of expansion. You may disagree with a media connection or publishing leader about how to communicate vital news about a project or product launch, or your highly creative ideas may meet resistance from a foreign connection. Meanwhile, Mars ends its retrograde, and you may feel a lift as you start to see networking plans and charitable projects move ahead. As you take action on anything related to building your contacts, spending time with friends, or making the world a better place, apply whatever you learned during the retrograde to give yourself the best chance of success.
August: A Time For Inward Seeking
Pisces, this month’s retrogrades and eclipse will make August a time of inward seeking and opportunities for beneficial change. Indulge in fun, follow your heart, and trust in patience and nature’s rhythms, regardless of what happens and no matter how often you feel tested by slowdowns and sudden shifts.
By bringing playfulness to life each day and shining your special light, you can bring joy to yourself and everyone you meet. Your willingness to feel like a child again will attract opportunities and give you courage to seize them.
