June Astrology – Headline News
Your Home And Family
June opens with two planets in Gemini:
- The warm and powerful Sun, who always shines his light freely and generously to bring joy and optimism to our world
- Mercury, who governs thinking, communication, and commerce and brings playfulness and curiosity wherever he goes
Although Mercury leaves Gemini for Cancer on June 12, the Moon will link with the Sun in Gemini from June 15 through 17, lending her emotional sensitivity to prevailing energies before the Sun changes signs on June 21.
Gemini is an air sign symbolized by the Twins, two playful and mischievous siblings who love to learn and talk and be on the go. Sometimes they play tricks by switching places with each other, reminding us that things—and people—are not always what they seem. Finding the truth means going beyond mere data to understand the story behind the facts and using the mind to make order and sense out of a mountain of details. At its best, this lighthearted sign helps us stay youthful by inspiring us to remain curious, go new places, and learn something each day.
Find out more about Gemini in my article, Gemini Time: Be Curious And Think Higher Thoughts. Also, you can tune in to this sign’s airy vitality and mental resourcefulness with The Gemini Meditation, an uplifting guided meditation.
For you, Pisces, planets in Gemini always activate your fourth house of home, family, real estate, and parents and other close relatives. The Gemini planets this month can help quicken your mind and refresh your thinking about these parts of your life. They also can help you step back and analyze your home, perhaps with an eye toward redecorating or selling one day. These energies also may help you lighten up when it comes to relationships with parents and other family members or inspire you to be out and about looking for properties you want to invest in. You might even enjoy a short getaway as part of a real estate transaction or search.
Your Children And Romantic Life
On June 21, the Sun leaves Gemini for Cancer, which will start the month of the Crab. You’ll feel the energies shift from the airy, mental realm of Gemini to the emotional, imaginative world of Cancer. This change takes us into feelings and intuition, a good antidote to Gemini’s strongly intellectual approach to life.
For you, Pisces, planets in Cancer increase your desire for romance because they pour energy into your fifth house of love and dating. If you’re married, these energies will inspire you to enjoy more passion with your spouse. This area also governs children, conception, fertility, and your hobbies and creative projects. As soon as the Sun enters Cancer, you may feel an urge to talk to your partner about having a child, contact other creatives for a new arts initiative, buy items related to your favorite hobby, or attend a family oriented concert or childlike play to energize the child within who wants to have more fun.
Solstice Arrives With A New Season
When the Sun enters the astrological sign of Cancer on June 21, we start a new season: summer in the northern hemisphere and winter in the southern. This day is called the solstice, one of two solstices we experience annually.
Solstice literally means “Sun stopped” or “Sun made to stand.” At the solstices, the Sun seems to stand still in the sky for about three days, when it reaches the limit of its movement either northward or southward. The Sun pauses and then gradually reverses course, starting a new six month cycle.
The June solstice ranks as one of the annual power days in our calendar, along with the December solstice and the equinoxes in March and September. The two equinoxes arrive on the days when the amount of daylight equals the amount of darkness, teaching us about balance and the blend of dark and light.
The solstices, however, bring us extremes because either the daylight or darkness prevails, dramatically so, and gives us either the longest or shortest day of the year. Solstices cap a six month story of light, during which the physical light that warms our lives and hearts reaches a turning point.
For those in the northern hemisphere, the June solstice brings the longest period of daylight, the climax of the Sun’s journey toward increasing light since the previous solstice. For those in the southern hemisphere, the opposite holds true, as June brings the shortest day and longest night and the climax of the Sun’s movement toward its least amount of light.
Regardless of where you live, the solstices and equinoxes offer excellent opportunities for meditation because nature’s quarterly changes mirror the inner, spiritual changes we experience throughout the year. Each of these four power days carries messages about the nature of light, both physical and spiritual, and rewards the time we devote to inner reflection.
In the case of the solstice, the apparent lack of motion concentrates the Sun’s energies, providing a powerful opportunity and focal point for spiritual work.
For you, Pisces, the June solstice allows you to enjoy time with children or think about adding to your family by having or adopting a child. This time also can spark romance or bring a personal project to fruition so it’s ready to unveil at a gallery or other venue.
Time To Slow Down: Mars Goes Retrograde
Mars has been traveling through Aquarius since mid-May. This month, from our perspective on Earth, it will appear that Mars is slowing down and then stopping in his tracks on June 26, when this fiery planet goes retrograde.
Similar to Mercury retrograde, this phenomenon will coincide with a slowdown that gives us time to pause, reflect, and redo. Mars will continue its apparent backward motion for two months, until August 27. Most of that time will occur in Aquarius, with the last two weeks happening in Capricorn.
Mars goes retrograde the least often of our solar system’s planets, about every two years. Nevertheless, we feel these periods keenly because Mars is the planet of energy, drive, and new beginnings.
When retrograde, Mars’s usual vitality disappears. If you’re accustomed to constant activity, it can feel strange when everything around you stalls and forward progress becomes elusive.
Heed these signals and take the opportunity to slow down, as that’s just the tonic you will need at this time. Life will carry on, but you’ll be in the slow lane for a while, giving you a chance to review the past two years since the last Mars retrograde, which occurred from April 17 to June 29, 2016. This time also will help you evaluate what you’ve achieved, make peace with what didn’t work out, and plan adjustments to make after the retrograde lifts. In fact, Mars retrograde can be the perfect time for vacation or at least a staycation and increased leisure time.
Slowing down can help you improve health, create more balanced habits, and streamline your to do list. It also offers potential for exploring sexuality, desire, and how you go after what you want in relationships. In addition, this period favors meditation about your actions, especially how you apply your will and whether your intentions are honorable. Remember that Mars, the warrior, needs to spiritualize his actions to serve at the highest level and create the greatest good.
For you, Pisces, Mars retrograde will help you pay attention to your energy this month, so you can notice how it changes as the retrograde draws near. Your drive to accomplishment may taper off, and you may find yourself desiring nothing so much as a break from the action, time alone, and an opportunity to address a health concern.
With the retrograde occurring mostly in Aquarius, with a bit of Capricorn at the end, you likely will experience its decreased energies in activities related to health (especially psychological well being), confidential projects, and spirituality as well as in your networking, friendships, and charitable work. Give yourself permission to ease up on outward action, make more time for solitude, take a break from certain people if you wish, and plan a vacation or reduce your hours on the job. These steps will ensure you come back rested and ready for action when the retrograde lifts at the end of August.
Plan Your Month: Important Dates In June
This month brings several key dates to watch as you plan your month. Mark your calendar and take action (or rest) as recommended on the dates listed here so your efforts can bring progress in all areas.
June 1 and 2: Mercury in your home and family house angles perfectly with Mars in your behind the scenes house, so if you need to help a relative on a sensitive situation, you can act confidentially now and persuade others about your approach. Also, Venus in your creativity area will make the same perfect angle with Jupiter in your international house and with your ruler, Neptune, in your personality sector. These planets and placements can reignite your love of travel, especially to secluded beaches or culturally rich destinations, or they may enable you to introduce a child to a new country or culture or bring your artistry to an overseas audience. These three planets also are associated with material and spiritual gain, so your travels and talents may yield income even as they allow you to uplift or serve others in some way. Focus on higher love and your highest ideals.
June 5: Venus in your creative area will face off against Pluto in your house of audiences, suggesting challenges finding a venue for your latest project. Others may not be sympathetic or may engage in power plays, so wait to make final decisions. Instead, harness the Sun and Mercury, which will join together in Gemini and give you the ability to charm loved ones, especially parents. You will have the power to talk yourself and others into—or out of—anything, so focus on the highest good for all and ease tensions by suggesting a lively meal with extended family at your house.
June 6: Both Mercury and the Sun in your real estate house will challenge Neptune in your personality and pet projects house. Your wish to redecorate, move, or invest in land may lack clarity or practicality, and loved ones may object quite vocally. If you’re working on something for a parent, your plans may create friction. Step back to gain clarity and remember your famous compassion if others are unclear or seem harsh.
June 10 – 13: The Moon enters its balsamic phase, the “dark of the Moon” time before the new Moon. Slow down and review the past month since the new Moon that arrived on May 15. Meditate, rest, and reflect on what you want to do in the coming month. Find out more about this mysterious monthly time in my Balsamic Moon Phase article. Also, this period is excellent for spiritual work, meditation, and prayer. See my article on How To Relieve Stress – Meditate At The Right Time for details.
June 12: Mercury leaves your home and family house for your fifth house of children, romance, and creativity. You may think about a baby, get a great idea for a new project, or meet someone new on social media. If any of these areas have stalled up to now, new and better solutions may emerge.
June 13: A busy day, with a new Moon in Gemini lighting your home, real estate, and spiritual foundation house. The next two weeks bring your best time all year to start anything new related to creating a more stable inner foundation for your spiritual life or associated with real estate such as improving your current home, redecorating, or inviting a relative to move in temporarily. Also, Mercury, Gemini’s ruler, will align helpfully with Uranus, bringing a possibly brilliant suggestion from a sibling that helps you overcome a concern about children or an arts project. In addition, Venus will enter passionate Leo, bringing love and kindness to your house of work, health, and pets. Let employees and coworkers know how much you value them and consider treating your department to lunch or coffee and cake. Bring your artistic flair to a work project or visit a shelter to adopt a pet. If you already have animals, bask in love and fun with them.
June 14: Venus in your work and health area tangles with Uranus in your travel house, suggesting a sudden development may force you to travel at short notice and forego your usual health regimen.
June 15: Mercury in your house of romance faces off with Saturn in your networking house, so you may need to rethink a date with someone you met at a mixer or club. Wait to ask someone out. Also, your creative way with words could ruffle a more conservative person’s feathers, so avoid approaching senior industry people.
June 18: Neptune, your ruler, begins its long annual retrograde in your personality house, helping you reconnect with the best parts of yourself, refine your character, and dissolve anything that’s not supporting good health.
June 19 – 20: Mercury will align beautifully with Jupiter and then Neptune, activating your houses related to creativity, personal projects, and publicity. Your psychic sense about who can help get the word out about your novel, art, movie, photography, or dance company can steer you to important people in the media or in foreign places. Also, these planets can help you network for a higher cause or greater good, so make time to meditate and invoke compassion and higher love and leadership.
June 21: The Sun leaves Gemini for Cancer, energizing your fifth house of hobbies, sports, the arts, children, and romance. Celebrate this solstice day by going on a date with someone new or with your marriage partner and children. Pack a basket of finger foods you enjoyed in childhood and have a picnic in the park under the stars or indoors if the weather is inclement. Enjoy the next month’s nurturing, caring energies.
June 22: The Sun in your house of talent connects well with Uranus in your communication area, bringing innovative ideas for promoting your work, creating a multimedia presentation, or relating more effectively to children.
June 23: Mercury in your children house challenges Pluto in your networking and charities house. If you need to be away for a conference or to oversee a fundraising event, your little ones may respond poorly, so be sensitive to their feelings, avoid being controlling, and make extra time for them at some point.
June 25: Venus will be out of sorts with Jupiter in your education area, so if your company is paying for you to earn a degree or get more training, you may face challenges from coworkers or human resource personnel. Wait to have discussions and keep a low profile. Also, if you’re working on a project involving overseas connections or have to fix a visa problem to travel on business, hold off on approaching those concerned until you can organize your thoughts.
June 26: Mars will begin a two month retrograde in your spirituality, solitude, and health house. Expect slowdowns in all these areas, and if you want to change your meditation program, switch therapists, or schedule a retreat, you may want to wait to take action until after the retrograde. Consider taking a vacation during this time if you can get away and get more sleep as dreams may be richly rewarding now.
June 27: A full Moon arrives in Capricorn in your friendship and networking house, and with Saturn joined with the Moon and the Sun involved in this alignment, this day may feel draining or demanding, both personally and professionally. See what peaks or comes to an end at this powerful full Moon but wait to take action because you will benefit from operating strategically.
June 28: Mercury leaves watery, emotional Cancer for fiery, passionate Leo. Let your mind turn to having more fun and being more creative at work and in your health routines. Try something more playful and joyous for exercise, even playing with your children or cycling together.
June 30: Mercury in Leo will bump up against Uranus in your third house of siblings and communication. Unexpected news about a brother or sister may reach you at work and distract you from your job. Or a communication project may hit snags and be hard to rectify. Be kind to yourself and all concerned by stepping back to achieve better perspective.
As you can see, this month will bring shifting energies to help us all appreciate nature’s rhythms at the solstice and during Mars retrograde. May the wisdom of slowing down infuse your month.
