June Astrology – Headline News
Your Romantic Life And Children
June opens with two planets in Gemini:
- The warm and powerful Sun, who always shines his light freely and generously to bring joy and optimism to our world
- Mercury, who governs thinking, communication, and commerce and brings playfulness and curiosity wherever he goes
Although Mercury leaves Gemini for Cancer on June 12, the Moon will link with the Sun in Gemini from June 15 through 17, lending her emotional sensitivity to prevailing energies before the Sun changes signs on June 21.
Gemini is an air sign symbolized by the Twins, two playful and mischievous siblings who love to learn and talk and be on the go. Sometimes they play tricks by switching places with each other, reminding us that things—and people—are not always what they seem. Finding the truth means going beyond mere data to understand the story behind the facts and using the mind to make order and sense out of a mountain of details. At its best, this lighthearted sign helps us stay youthful by inspiring us to remain curious, go new places, and learn something each day.
Find out more about Gemini in my article, Gemini Time: Be Curious And Think Higher Thoughts. Also, you can tune in to this sign’s airy vitality and mental resourcefulness with The Gemini Meditation, an uplifting guided meditation.
For you, Aquarius, planets in Gemini always activate your fifth house of children, romance, and creativity. The Gemini planets this month can help quicken your mind and refresh your thinking in these areas. They also can help you step back and analyze how you relate to your children. If you don’t have youngsters and aren’t attached, this time will allow you to think about what you want in your romantic life, and your curiosity and humor may attract someone to you now. These energies also may help you lighten up when it comes to fertility treatments or conception or inspire you to spend more time on your artistic talents and desire to play. You may enjoy getting out or taking a short getaway to enjoy a different perspective to jumpstart a new hobby or artistic project.
Your Work And Health
On June 21, the Sun leaves Gemini for Cancer, which will start the month of the Crab. You’ll feel the energies shift from the airy, mental realm of Gemini to the emotional, imaginative world of Cancer. This change takes us into feelings and intuition, a good antidote to Gemini’s strongly intellectual approach to life.
For you, Aquarius, planets in Cancer increase your desire to focus on your job and build security because they pour energy into your sixth house of work, employees, and coworkers. This area also governs pets as well as nutrition, fitness, and other holistic aspects of health. As soon as the Sun enters Cancer, you may feel an urge to adopt an animal, work more hours to earn more money, eat more homemade meals, or nurture employees or colleagues by bringing in treats or mentoring them.
Solstice Arrives With A New Season
When the Sun enters the astrological sign of Cancer on June 21, we start a new season: summer in the northern hemisphere and winter in the southern. This day is called the solstice, one of two solstices we experience annually.
Solstice literally means “Sun stopped” or “Sun made to stand.” At the solstices, the Sun seems to stand still in the sky for about three days, when it reaches the limit of its movement either northward or southward. The Sun pauses and then gradually reverses course, starting a new six month cycle.
The June solstice ranks as one of the annual power days in our calendar, along with the December solstice and the equinoxes in March and September. The two equinoxes arrive on the days when the amount of daylight equals the amount of darkness, teaching us about balance and the blend of dark and light.
The solstices, however, bring us extremes because either the daylight or darkness prevails, dramatically so, and gives us either the longest or shortest day of the year. Solstices cap a six month story of light, during which the physical light that warms our lives and hearts reaches a turning point.
For those in the northern hemisphere, the June solstice brings the longest period of daylight, the climax of the Sun’s journey toward increasing light since the previous solstice. For those in the southern hemisphere, the opposite holds true, as June brings the shortest day and longest night and the climax of the Sun’s movement toward its least amount of light.
Regardless of where you live, the solstices and equinoxes offer excellent opportunities for meditation because nature’s quarterly changes mirror the inner, spiritual changes we experience throughout the year. Each of these four power days carries messages about the nature of light, both physical and spiritual, and rewards the time we devote to inner reflection.
In the case of the solstice, the apparent lack of motion concentrates the Sun’s energies, providing a powerful opportunity and focal point for spiritual work.
For you, Aquarius, the June solstice allows you to think about your job and how it allows you to be of service while building personal security. It also may inspire you to spend time with pets (your or other people’s), take better care of your health, or research holistic health options or more satisfying exercise options that help you feel more at home in your body.
Time To Slow Down: Mars Goes Retrograde
Mars has been traveling through Aquarius since mid-May. This month, from our perspective on Earth, it will appear that Mars is slowing down and then stopping in his tracks on June 26, when this fiery planet goes retrograde.
Similar to Mercury retrograde, this phenomenon will coincide with a slowdown that gives us time to pause, reflect, and redo. Mars will continue its apparent backward motion for two months, until August 27. Most of that time will occur in Aquarius, with the last two weeks happening in Capricorn.
Mars goes retrograde the least often of our solar system’s planets, about every two years. Nevertheless, we feel these periods keenly because Mars is the planet of energy, drive, and new beginnings.
When retrograde, Mars’s usual vitality disappears. If you’re accustomed to constant activity, it can feel strange when everything around you stalls and forward progress becomes elusive.
Heed these signals and take the opportunity to slow down, as that’s just the tonic you will need at this time. Life will carry on, but you’ll be in the slow lane for a while, giving you a chance to review the past two years since the last Mars retrograde, which occurred from April 17 to June 29, 2016. This time also will help you evaluate what you’ve achieved, make peace with what didn’t work out, and plan adjustments to make after the retrograde lifts. In fact, Mars retrograde can be the perfect time for vacation or at least a staycation and increased leisure time.
Slowing down can help you improve health, create more balanced habits, and streamline your to do list. It also offers potential for exploring sexuality, desire, and how you go after what you want in relationships. In addition, this period favors meditation about your actions, especially how you apply your will and whether your intentions are honorable. Remember that Mars, the warrior, needs to spiritualize his actions to serve at the highest level and create the greatest good.
For you, Aquarius, this Mars retrograde looms large because Mars will be in your sign, primarily, during this period. Pay attention to your health this month and notice how your energy changes as the retrograde draws near. Your drive to accomplishment may taper off, and you may find yourself desiring nothing so much as a break from the action and perhaps more sleep.
With the retrograde occurring mostly in Aquarius, with a bit of Capricorn at the end, you likely will experience its decreased energies in your physical well being, personality, public image, and personal projects of special importance to you as well as in your health, dreams, and spirituality. Give yourself permission to do less, rest more, and take a break from striving on image makeovers or personal projects. Plan a vacation or reduce your hours on the job if possible and take extra good care of your health and body. These steps will ensure you come back rested and ready for action when the retrograde lifts at the end of August.
Plan Your Month: Important Dates In June
This month brings several key dates to watch as you plan your month. Mark your calendar and take action (or rest) as recommended on the dates listed here so your efforts can bring progress in all areas.
June 1 and 2: Mercury in your romance house angles perfectly with Mars in your personality house, so if you’re unattached, your unique drive and leadership may attract someone’s attention, perhaps an intellectual connection who loves good conversation and laughter. If you’re attached, use this time to romance your partner, as your words will carry power to express your desire, and your physicality will thrill your beloved. Also, Venus in your job area will make the same perfect angle with Jupiter in your career house and with Neptune in your work and earned income sector. More money, advancement, leadership opportunities, or a new creative project may come your way. These planets also relate to love, both human and divine, as well as nobility, so you have an opportunity to align your work with your highest ideals and direct yourself toward serving others. Meditate for guidance and inspiration.
June 5: Venus in your health area will face off against Pluto in your privacy and psychology house, suggesting challenges related to wellness or in your work with a therapist or other clinician. Health professionals and work connections may not be sympathetic, and you may wish to keep your situation confidential, so wait to hold sensitive discussions. Instead, harness the Sun and Mercury, which will join together in Gemini and give you the gift of persuasion with everyone from your children to your love to anyone you work with on a creative initiative. You will have the power to talk yourself and others into—or out of—anything, so focus on the highest good for all and ease tensions by suggesting a fun outing, either with children or with your partner or significant other who wants to bring out the child within through lighthearted entertainment at a circus, concert, or movie theatre.
June 6: Both Mercury and the Sun in your romance house will challenge Neptune in your money house. Your wish to impress a new love may create confusion in your finances or unrealistic plans related to where you go on dates. Communication may become muddled, so wait to commit to anything costly until you can get clarity on your budget.
June 10 – 13: The Moon enters its balsamic phase, the “dark of the Moon” time before the new Moon. Slow down and review the past month since the new Moon that arrived on May 15. Meditate, rest, and reflect on what you want to do in the coming month. Find out more about this mysterious monthly time in my Balsamic Moon Phase article. Also, this period is excellent for spiritual work, meditation, and prayer. See my article on How To Relieve Stress – Meditate At The Right Time for details.
June 12: Mercury leaves your children and romance house for your sixth house of work, fitness, and pets. You may think about a job change or speak up about wanting a raise or better benefits. Or you may research cooking techniques, recipes, or unusual ingredients to liven up your menus at home. If a pet needs different care, new and better solutions may emerge now.
June 13: A busy day, with a new Moon in Gemini lighting your children, romance, and creativity house. The next two weeks bring your best time all year to conceive or begin fertility treatments if you want a baby. This period also favors starting new hobbies or arts projects or a new romance, so look your best whenever you’re away from home so you can connect with potential dates with confidence. If you’re already married, use this time to romance your partner in dramatic and fun ways. Also, Mercury, Gemini’s ruler, will align helpfully with your ruler, Uranus, so if you want to work at home, you may come up with a brilliant plan that gets the green light from bosses. In addition, Venus will enter passionate Leo, bringing love and kindness to your house of marriage, business partnerships, and agreements. Fall in love with your spouse all over again with heartfelt declarations and pampering for two at a spa. Also, enjoy a new spirit of cooperation with all business partners and advisors, and if you’re involved in an arbitration, you may find others more willing to compromise now.
June 14: Venus in your partnership area tangles with Uranus in your home and family house, suggesting sudden developments at home creating friction between you and your partner. Your futuristic decorating ideas may not receive applause, so step back on pressing your preferences for now.
June 15: Mercury in your house of health faces off with Saturn in your psychology house, so you may need to speak with a therapist to overcome a health concern. Avoid sharing too much at work, and if you need time off for treatment, wait to approach your boss.
June 18: Neptune begins its long annual retrograde in your earned income house, helping you reconnect with your compassion and how you’re able to share it on the job and through your choice of profession.
June 19 – 20: Mercury will align beautifully with Jupiter and then Neptune, all in your professional and income houses. Your dream job may be possible now, thanks to a good word from a colleague, or a VIP in your industry may tap you for a creative or service project. Make time to meditate because these planets can expand your vision, enlarge your inner life and outer opportunities, and renew your compassion.
June 21: The Sun leaves Gemini for Cancer, energizing your sixth house of health, work, fitness, and pets. Celebrate this solstice day with nourishing food, perhaps even bringing a special homemade lunch to work. Give thanks for the security you enjoy due to good health and your job and coworkers. Enjoy the next month’s nurturing, caring energies.
June 22: The Sun in your health house connects well with Uranus, bringing new ideas for exercising at home or learning to cook so you can eat more healthfully and work more efficiently.
June 23: Mercury in your job house challenges Pluto in your behind the scenes projects house. If you’re working on a confidential task for a powerful person at work, stay under the radar and avoid meetings and discussions; if you must connect, exercise care in everything you say, text, and write.
June 25: Venus will be out of sorts with Jupiter in your career area, so if you need to travel more for business or work longer hours to secure a promotion, your partner may object. If you’re negotiating a new position or want to sign a new agent, hold off on final decisions or signing papers.
June 26: Mars will begin a two month retrograde in your personality, public image, and health house. Expect slowdowns in all these areas, and take it in stride if others mention your more subdued energy. If you want to launch a new project, get a makeover, or start a new health approach, wait until after the retrograde if possible and use this time to gather more facts. Consider taking a vacation during this time if you can get away.
June 27: A full Moon arrives in Capricorn in your spirituality house, and with Saturn joined with the Moon and the Sun involved in this alignment, this day may feel draining on the inner plane as well as at work and in a health matter. See what peaks at this powerful full Moon but wait to take action because you will benefit from operating strategically.
June 28: Mercury leaves watery, emotional Cancer for fiery, passionate Leo, revving up your partnerships with quick thinking and ardent feelings. Let your mind turn to pleasure with your beloved and indulge in playfulness as well as greater physical affection.
June 30: Mercury in Leo will bump up against Uranus, your ruler, in your fourth house of home and family. Your partner’s ideas about a home, decorating, or real estate concern may differ significantly from yours, or a sudden development related to a parent may invite criticism from your spouse. Be kind to yourself and all concerned by stepping back to achieve better perspective.
As you can see, this month will bring shifting energies to help us all appreciate nature’s rhythms at the solstice and during Mars retrograde. May the wisdom of slowing down infuse your month.
