June Astrology – Headline News
Your Work And Health
June opens with two planets in Gemini:
- The warm and powerful Sun, who always shines his light freely and generously to bring joy and optimism to our world
- Mercury, who governs thinking, communication, and commerce and brings playfulness and curiosity wherever he goes
Although Mercury leaves Gemini for Cancer on June 12, the Moon will link with the Sun in Gemini from June 15 through 17, lending her emotional sensitivity to prevailing energies before the Sun changes signs on June 21.
Gemini is an air sign symbolized by the Twins, two playful and mischievous siblings who love to learn and talk and be on the go. Sometimes they play tricks by switching places with each other, reminding us that things—and people—are not always what they seem. Finding the truth means going beyond mere data to understand the story behind the facts and using the mind to make order and sense out of a mountain of details. At its best, this lighthearted sign helps us stay youthful by inspiring us to remain curious, go new places, and learn something each day.
Find out more about Gemini in my article, Gemini Time: Be Curious And Think Higher Thoughts. Also, you can tune in to this sign’s airy vitality and mental resourcefulness with The Gemini Meditation, an uplifting guided meditation.
For you, Capricorn, planets in Gemini always activate your sixth house of work, health, fitness, pets, and service. The Gemini planets this month can help quicken your mind and refresh your thinking, which will bring a new spirit to your work. They also can help you step back and analyze what you do for a living and how it serves others as well as evaluate your nutrition, fitness, and overall health to see how they support your ability to work efficiently. These energies also may help you lighten up when it comes to work and the routines you impose on yourself and others, or they may inspire you to get out of the office more for fresh air, have fun with pets (or adopt one), and be more chatty with employees and colleagues.
Your Marriage And Other Partnerships
On June 21, the Sun leaves Gemini for Cancer, which will start the month of the Crab. You’ll feel the energies shift from the airy, mental realm of Gemini to the emotional, imaginative world of Cancer. This change takes us into feelings and intuition, a good antidote to Gemini’s strongly intellectual approach to life.
For you, Capricorn, planets in Cancer increase your desire to spend time with the people closest to you, such as your spouse, because they pour energy into your seventh house of commitment and partnerships. This area also governs agreements you make, such as a contract with a business advisor, agent, or other person who partners with you in business. As soon as the Sun enters Cancer, if you’re not attached, you may feel an urge to date seriously with an eye toward marriage, or if you’re already dating you may decide to make it official. If you’re attached, you may feel like spending much more time with your spouse, particularly at home. In your work life, if you need to team with someone, you likely will feel inspired to interview potential partners or advisors at this time.
Solstice Arrives With A New Season
When the Sun enters the astrological sign of Cancer on June 21, we start a new season: summer in the northern hemisphere and winter in the southern. This day is called the solstice, one of two solstices we experience annually.
Solstice literally means “Sun stopped” or “Sun made to stand.” At the solstices, the Sun seems to stand still in the sky for about three days, when it reaches the limit of its movement either northward or southward. The Sun pauses and then gradually reverses course, starting a new six month cycle.
The June solstice ranks as one of the annual power days in our calendar, along with the December solstice and the equinoxes in March and September. The two equinoxes arrive on the days when the amount of daylight equals the amount of darkness, teaching us about balance and the blend of dark and light.
The solstices, however, bring us extremes because either the daylight or darkness prevails, dramatically so, and gives us either the longest or shortest day of the year. Solstices cap a six month story of light, during which the physical light that warms our lives and hearts reaches a turning point.
For those in the northern hemisphere, the June solstice brings the longest period of daylight, the climax of the Sun’s journey toward increasing light since the previous solstice. For those in the southern hemisphere, the opposite holds true, as June brings the shortest day and longest night and the climax of the Sun’s movement toward its least amount of light.
Regardless of where you live, the solstices and equinoxes offer excellent opportunities for meditation because nature’s quarterly changes mirror the inner, spiritual changes we experience throughout the year. Each of these four power days carries messages about the nature of light, both physical and spiritual, and rewards the time we devote to inner reflection.
In the case of the solstice, the apparent lack of motion concentrates the Sun’s energies, providing a powerful opportunity and focal point for spiritual work.
For you, Capricorn, the June solstice allows you to connect with your spouse and appreciate how your relationship helps you feel secure. If you’re not attached, you may become introspective about the concept of commitment, perhaps looking back on your parents’ relationship or those of other older people important in your life. Likewise, in your work life, you may use this moment to give thanks for the people you’ve made agreements with, either in the past or present, to support your work or company.
Time To Slow Down: Mars Goes Retrograde
Mars has been traveling through Aquarius since mid-May. This month, from our perspective on Earth, it will appear that Mars is slowing down and then stopping in his tracks on June 26, when this fiery planet goes retrograde.
Similar to Mercury retrograde, this phenomenon will coincide with a slowdown that gives us time to pause, reflect, and redo. Mars will continue its apparent backward motion for two months, until August 27. Most of that time will occur in Aquarius, with the last two weeks happening in Capricorn.
Mars goes retrograde the least often of our solar system’s planets, about every two years. Nevertheless, we feel these periods keenly because Mars is the planet of energy, drive, and new beginnings.
When retrograde, Mars’s usual vitality disappears. If you’re accustomed to constant activity, it can feel strange when everything around you stalls and forward progress becomes elusive.
Heed these signals and take the opportunity to slow down, as that’s just the tonic you will need at this time. Life will carry on, but you’ll be in the slow lane for a while, giving you a chance to review the past two years since the last Mars retrograde, which occurred from April 17 to June 29, 2016. This time also will help you evaluate what you’ve achieved, make peace with what didn’t work out, and plan adjustments to make after the retrograde lifts. In fact, Mars retrograde can be the perfect time for vacation or at least a staycation and increased leisure time.
Slowing down can help you improve health, create more balanced habits, and streamline your to do list. It also offers potential for exploring sexuality, desire, and how you go after what you want in relationships. In addition, this period favors meditation about your actions, especially how you apply your will and whether your intentions are honorable. Remember that Mars, the warrior, needs to spiritualize his actions to serve at the highest level and create the greatest good.
For you, Capricorn, Mars retrograde can help you pay attention to your energy this month and notice how it changes as the retrograde draws near. Your drive to accomplishment may taper off, and you may find yourself desiring nothing so much as a break from the action.
With the retrograde occurring mostly in Aquarius, with a bit of Capricorn at the end, you likely will experience its decreased energies in activities related to your job, earned income, and possessions as well as your health, personality, and personal projects. Give yourself permission to ease up at work and in your striving to increase income or get new clients. Also, take a break from certain colleagues or associates if you wish and plan a vacation or reduce your hours on the job. These steps will ensure you come back rested and ready for action when the retrograde lifts at the end of August.
Plan Your Month: Important Dates In June
This month brings several key dates to watch as you plan your month. Mark your calendar and take action (or rest) as recommended on the dates listed here so your efforts can bring progress in all areas.
June 1 and 2: Mercury in your job house angles perfectly with Mars in your personal money house, so someone at work may tell you about an opportunity that nets you a raise, promotion, or new project or client. Or a colleague may praise your hard work to the right VIP, putting you on the fast track for advancement. Also, Venus in your partnership area will make the same perfect angle with Jupiter in your networking house and with Neptune in your communication sector. Your spouse, agent, business partner, and siblings can help you network now, or your wealth of lucrative connections may allow you to help them with the perfect contact, especially if any of them work in a creative field. These three planets also relate to higher love and leadership, so make time to meditate on how you can bring those qualities into your communication and all your relationships. For example, you may decide to join a nonprofit board and involve your partner and sibs in a fundraiser.
June 5: Venus in your marriage area will face off against Pluto in your house of self, suggesting disagreements with your spouse. Your beloved may not be sympathetic, and you may want to push your agenda, but your best course lies in avoiding a power play and putting off sensitive discussions. Instead, harness the Sun and Mercury, which will join together in Gemini in your job house, giving you a silver tongue with everyone from employees to bosses to colleagues to clients. You will have the power to talk yourself and others into—or out of—anything, so focus on the highest good for all and ease tensions by suggesting a fun outing, perhaps a walk outdoors, lunch at a health food spot, or a pickup game after work.
June 6: Both Mercury and the Sun in your daily life management and routines house will challenge Neptune in your sibling and travel house. A brother’s or sister’s confusion over a sensitive matter may disrupt your day, or miscommunication at work may affect business travel. Pressing for closure may muddle things further, or something confidential may leak, forcing you to act quickly.
June 10 – 13: The Moon enters its balsamic phase, the “dark of the Moon” time before the new Moon. Slow down and review the past month since the new Moon that arrived on May 15. Meditate, rest, and reflect on what you want to do in the coming month. Find out more about this mysterious monthly time in my Balsamic Moon Phase article. Also, this period is excellent for spiritual work, meditation, and prayer. See my article on How To Relieve Stress – Meditate At The Right Time for details.
June 12: Mercury leaves your work and health house for your seventh house of marriage, agreements, and partnerships. You may sign with an agent, begin talks with a possible business partner, or propose marriage. If you need help with a dispute or legal matter, new information and better solutions may emerge now.
June 13: A busy day, with a new Moon in Gemini lighting your work, fitness, and pets house. The next two weeks bring your best time all year to start anything new related to your job, nutrition regimen, and workout routine. Also, you may decide to adopt a pet or make changes in caring for the ones you already have. Mercury, Gemini’s ruler, will align helpfully with Uranus, bringing a new meeting of the minds between your spouse and your children. This alignment also could produce brilliant ideas related to a business partnership, or your partner may voice new enthusiasm for your creative potential or your wish to have a child. In addition, Venus will enter passionate Leo, bringing love and kindness to your house of shared income through alimony and child support, loans and mortgages, gifts and inheritance, and insurance payouts and commissions. If you’re negotiating with an ex, discussions may become easier now, and your diplomacy can help you reach a fairer settlement. This placement also can bring favor from lenders, mortgage brokers, and other financial professionals, or you may hear that your partner has earned a raise or unexpected bonus.
June 14: Venus in your money area tangles with Uranus in your children house, suggesting unexpected financial changes related to youngsters. Remain diplomatic, especially if you’re communicating with an ex, and wait to commit funds if possible until you consider your best options.
June 15: Mercury in your partnership house faces off with your ruler, Saturn, in your personality and image house, so you and your partner may argue, with the potential for harsh words said in haste. Be cautious about pressing your point, listen to your partner, and table delicate discussions so you can strategize and consider long term goals that support harmony and fairness.
June 18: Neptune begins its long annual retrograde in your communication and sibling house, helping you consider how you express compassion in your thoughts and conversations and giving you a chance to reconnect with your brothers and sisters, perhaps at a spa for relaxation and pampering.
June 19 – 20: Mercury will align beautifully with Jupiter and then Neptune, in your partnership, sibling, and humanitarian houses. Make time to meditate because these planets can expand your vision, enlarge your inner life and perspective on all relationships, and renew your compassion and desire to make the world a better place.
June 21: The Sun leaves Gemini for Cancer, energizing your seventh house of marriage, business bonds, and agreements. Celebrate this solstice day with your beloved, or if you’re unattached, invite a business partner to lunch. In the evening, enjoy family, make a homemade meal, and give thanks for the kindness and affection you receive from loved ones. Enjoy the next month’s nurturing, caring energies.
June 22: The Sun in your marriage house connects well with Uranus, so if you want a baby, this may be a good time to bring it up with your beloved. Or you may discover you’re expecting and have happy news to share with you partner.
June 23: Mercury in your partnership house challenges Pluto in your personal projects house. Your partner may object to a project you’ve taken on and could be quite vocal about this latest obsession. Avoid letting passion get the better of you, listen with an open mind and heart, and ask for time to mull things over before responding.
June 25: Venus will be out of sorts with Jupiter in your charities area, so if you’re involved in a fundraiser, you may be unrealistic in how much you can contribute financially. If you and your spouse are thinking of getting involved in a charity, especially joining a board or endowing something, hold off on commitments for now.
June 26: Mars will begin a two month retrograde in your earned income, work, possessions, and values house. Expect slowdowns in all these areas, and if you want to change jobs or get new clients, look to people from your past for opportunities rather than pursuing people you don’t know and avoid submitting applications or proposals. Use this time to reconsider your values as well as review your possessions. Consider taking a vacation during this time if you can get away.
June 27: A full Moon arrives in Capricorn in your health and personality house, and with Saturn, your ruler, joined with the Moon and the Sun involved in this alignment, this day may feel draining, and your marriage or business partner may be demanding. See what peaks at this powerful full Moon but wait to take action because you will benefit from operating strategically.
June 28: Mercury leaves watery, emotional Cancer for fiery, passionate Leo. Let your mind turn to intimacy and enjoy love with your partner. Also, use this time to explore your deepest spirituality, perhaps by studying meditation or learning about near death experiences.
June 30: Mercury in Leo will bump up against Uranus in your fifth house of children. If you want to conceive but need fertility help, you may find the cost beyond your means. This alignment also could affect child support negotiations or funding for an arts project, either of which may require adjustments for practicality. Be kind to yourself and all concerned by stepping back to achieve better perspective.
As you can see, this month will bring shifting energies to help us all appreciate nature’s rhythms at the solstice and during Mars retrograde. May the wisdom of slowing down infuse your month.
