Your Partnerships And Agreements
June opens with two planets in Gemini:
- The warm and powerful Sun, who always shines his light freely and generously to bring joy and optimism to our world
- Mercury, who governs thinking, communication, and commerce and brings playfulness and curiosity wherever he goes
Although Mercury leaves Gemini for Cancer on June 12, the Moon will link with the Sun in Gemini from June 15 through 17, lending her emotional sensitivity to prevailing energies before the Sun changes signs on June 21.
Gemini is an air sign symbolized by the Twins, two playful and mischievous siblings who love to learn and talk and be on the go. Sometimes they play tricks by switching places with each other, reminding us that things—and people—are not always what they seem. Finding the truth means going beyond mere data to understand the story behind the facts and using the mind to make order and sense out of a mountain of details. At its best, this lighthearted sign helps us stay youthful by inspiring us to remain curious, go new places, and learn something each day.
Find out more about Gemini in my article, Gemini Time: Be Curious And Think Higher Thoughts. Also, you can tune in to this sign’s airy vitality and mental resourcefulness with The Gemini Meditation, an uplifting guided meditation.
For you, Sagittarius, planets in Gemini always activate your seventh house of marriage and other committed partnerships as well as contracts and agreements. The Gemini planets this month can help quicken your mind and refresh your thinking about how you pair up with others, either for business or pleasure. They also can help you step back and analyze how you approach relationships, negotiate agreements, and manage disagreements or criticism from others. These energies also may help you lighten up when it comes to your marriage to enjoy wordplay or explore new interests together, or they may inspire you to propose if you’re serious about the person you’re dating or to sign an agreement with a business advisor or agent.
Your Money, Passion, And Mystical Interests
On June 21, the Sun leaves Gemini for Cancer, which will start the month of the Crab. You’ll feel the energies shift from the airy, mental realm of Gemini to the emotional, imaginative world of Cancer. This change takes us into feelings and intuition, a good antidote to Gemini’s strongly intellectual approach to life.
For you, Sagittarius, planets in Cancer increase your desire to achieve financial security because they pour energy into your eighth house of shared money such as credit, insurance, taxes, alimony, and income from commissions. This area also governs life’s mysteries, including your passions and sexuality as well as your interests in deep spirituality and the soul. As soon as the Sun enters Cancer, you may feel an urge to meet with a business partner or your spouse to discuss budgets and improving financial management or you may feel increased desire for intimacy or interest in exploring life after death, meditation, and other aspects of spirituality.
Solstice Arrives With A New Season
When the Sun enters the astrological sign of Cancer on June 21, we start a new season: summer in the northern hemisphere and winter in the southern. This day is called the solstice, one of two solstices we experience annually.
Solstice literally means “Sun stopped” or “Sun made to stand.” At the solstices, the Sun seems to stand still in the sky for about three days, when it reaches the limit of its movement either northward or southward. The Sun pauses and then gradually reverses course, starting a new six month cycle.
The June solstice ranks as one of the annual power days in our calendar, along with the December solstice and the equinoxes in March and September. The two equinoxes arrive on the days when the amount of daylight equals the amount of darkness, teaching us about balance and the blend of dark and light.
The solstices, however, bring us extremes because either the daylight or darkness prevails, dramatically so, and gives us either the longest or shortest day of the year. Solstices cap a six month story of light, during which the physical light that warms our lives and hearts reaches a turning point.
For those in the northern hemisphere, the June solstice brings the longest period of daylight, the climax of the Sun’s journey toward increasing light since the previous solstice. For those in the southern hemisphere, the opposite holds true, as June brings the shortest day and longest night and the climax of the Sun’s movement toward its least amount of light.
Regardless of where you live, the solstices and equinoxes offer excellent opportunities for meditation because nature’s quarterly changes mirror the inner, spiritual changes we experience throughout the year. Each of these four power days carries messages about the nature of light, both physical and spiritual, and rewards the time we devote to inner reflection.
In the case of the solstice, the apparent lack of motion concentrates the Sun’s energies, providing a powerful opportunity and focal point for spiritual work.
For you, Sagittarius, the June solstice allows you to think about the security you enjoy by sharing your financial life with others through lines of credit, a home mortgage, or inheritance. It also may inspire you to explore your sexual nature, speak more frankly with your partner about what pleases you, and discuss enhancing your bond by seeing lovemaking as a merging of your souls.
Time To Slow Down: Mars Goes Retrograde
Mars has been traveling through Aquarius since mid-May. This month, from our perspective on Earth, it will appear that Mars is slowing down and then stopping in his tracks on June 26, when this fiery planet goes retrograde.
Similar to Mercury retrograde, this phenomenon will coincide with a slowdown that gives us time to pause, reflect, and redo. Mars will continue its apparent backward motion for two months, until August 27. Most of that time will occur in Aquarius, with the last two weeks happening in Capricorn.
Mars goes retrograde the least often of our solar system’s planets, about every two years. Nevertheless, we feel these periods keenly because Mars is the planet of energy, drive, and new beginnings.
When retrograde, Mars’s usual vitality disappears. If you’re accustomed to constant activity, it can feel strange when everything around you stalls and forward progress becomes elusive.
Heed these signals and take the opportunity to slow down, as that’s just the tonic you will need at this time. Life will carry on, but you’ll be in the slow lane for a while, giving you a chance to review the past two years since the last Mars retrograde, which occurred from April 17 to June 29, 2016. This time also will help you evaluate what you’ve achieved, make peace with what didn’t work out, and plan adjustments to make after the retrograde lifts. In fact, Mars retrograde can be the perfect time for vacation or at least a staycation and increased leisure time.
Slowing down can help you improve health, create more balanced habits, and streamline your to do list. It also offers potential for exploring sexuality, desire, and how you go after what you want in relationships. In addition, this period favors meditation about your actions, especially how you apply your will and whether your intentions are honorable. Remember that Mars, the warrior, needs to spiritualize his actions to serve at the highest level and create the greatest good.
For you, Sagittarius, Mars retrograde can help you pay attention to your energy this month and notice how it changes as the retrograde draws near. Your drive to accomplishment may taper off, and you may find yourself desiring nothing so much as a break from the action.
With the retrograde occurring mostly in Aquarius, with a bit of Capricorn at the end, you likely will experience its decreased energies in your activities related to brothers and sisters, short trips, education, research, and communication of all kinds as well as in your personal money through income you earn at a job. Give yourself permission to ease up on study and reading, take a break from your siblings if you wish, and plan a vacation to a favorite spot from your past or reduce your hours on the job. These steps will ensure you come back rested and ready for action when the retrograde lifts at the end of August.
Plan Your Month: Important Dates In June
This month brings several key dates to watch as you plan your month. Mark your calendar and take action (or rest) as recommended on the dates listed here so your efforts can bring progress in all areas.
June 1 and 2: Mercury in your partnership house angles perfectly with Mars in your communication house, so if you’ve been romancing someone and want to propose, now is a good time. If you’ve been negotiating with someone to become your agent or publicist or act in another advisory capacity, this time also favors creating an agreement to work together. Also, Venus in your gifts, bonus, and commission area will make the same perfect angle with your ruler, Jupiter, in your behind the scenes house and with Neptune in your home and family sector. On the material plane, money may come to you for your work on a confidential project or a benefactor who wishes to stay below the radar, which can help you update your decor or move to a new home. If you’ve had a medical concern, especially regarding negative habits or a psychological issue, a helpful clinician may help you overcome it and parents or other family members may help with greater compassion for your situation. These three houses also govern spirituality and mystical insights, so you could have a deep spiritual revelation, decide to create a meditation area at home, or savor dreams of higher love made real.
June 5: Venus and Pluto face off against each other across your money houses, suggesting financial challenges. Your marriage or business partner and financial officials may not be sympathetic, so wait to hold sensitive discussions. Instead, harness the Sun and Mercury, which will join together in Gemini and give you the gift of curiosity and inventive conversation when it comes to your life partner. You will have the power to talk yourself and others into—or out of—anything, so focus on the highest good as you have a good time and enjoy plenty of laughter. Ease financial tensions by suggesting a fun outing, perhaps a walk in nature or visit to a bird sanctuary to enjoy your feathered friends’ colors.
June 6: Both Mercury and the Sun in your marriage house will challenge Neptune in your home and family house. Parents may disapprove of your plans to wed, or your partner and family members may misunderstand each other. Clarity may be hard to come by, so avoid disputes and remember your underlying love for all concerned.
June 10 – 13: The Moon enters its balsamic phase, the “dark of the Moon” time before the new Moon. Slow down and review the past month since the new Moon that arrived on May 15. Meditate, rest, and reflect on what you want to do in the coming month. Find out more about this mysterious monthly time in my Balsamic Moon Phase article. Also, this period is excellent for spiritual work, meditation, and prayer. See my article on How To Relieve Stress – Meditate At The Right Time for details.
June 12: Mercury leaves your committed partnership house for your eighth house of shared money. You may meet with a money management or insurance expert and decide to learn more about investing so you can make better decisions for yourself and your family. If you need to improve something related to finances such as your will, insurance coverage, or loan terms, new and better solutions may emerge now.
June 13: A busy day, with a new Moon in Gemini lighting your partnership and agreements house. The next two weeks bring your best time all year to start anything new related to marrying, drawing closer to your partner if you’re already attached, meeting with potential business partners or agents, or refining agreements and negotiation techniques. Also, Mercury, Gemini’s ruler, will align helpfully with Uranus, enlightening you on how to improve your financial picture with a better job or promotion at your current company. In addition, Venus will enter passionate Leo, bringing love and kindness to your international and education house. If you’re unattached, open your heart to a potential love interest from a culture different from your own; this placement also suggests love through an academic contact or favor from officials for an immigration or visa matter, dissertation defense, or import export deal.
June 14: Venus in your travel area tangles with Uranus in your job house, indicating sudden developments that affect a work trip or a project involving international publicity.
June 15: Mercury and Saturn face off against each other in your money houses, so you may need to rethink increasing insurance coverage or could hear about more stringent policies that will affect a loan or other debt you had planned on leveraging. Wait to speak with your spouse, business partner, or lenders so you can strategize and consider long term goals.
June 18: Neptune begins its long annual retrograde in your home and family house, helping you reconnect with your heritage, capacity for compassion, and security from spiritual strength.
June 19 – 20: Mercury will align beautifully with Jupiter, your ruler, and then Neptune, all in your mystical houses. Make time to meditate because these planets can expand your vision, enlarge your inner life, and renew your compassion.
June 21: The Sun leaves Gemini for Cancer, energizing your eighth house of joint finances, inheritance and gifts, sexuality, and deep spirituality. Celebrate this solstice day with thanks for financial arrangements that help make your life more stable. If you’re in a relationship, plan a night of soul stirring passion; otherwise, take time to meditate and reflect on life’s mysteries and the blessings bestowed by your soul’s gifts. Enjoy the next month’s nurturing, caring energies.
June 22: The Sun in your passion house connects well with Uranus, bringing surprises from your romantic partner, perhaps a workout at the gym together or spontaneous fitness walk as an energetic prelude to intimacy.
June 23: Mercury in your shared money house challenges Pluto in your personal money house, indicating you and a partner (or ex) may disagree about financial negotiations or agreements. Wait to discuss matters until this alignment passes, as you may create more stress if you insist on getting your way.
June 25: Venus will be out of sorts with Jupiter in your privacy area, so if you’re involved in a confidential project, especially one related to the arts or publishing, hold off on discussing creative differences with others. If you’re planning a spiritual retreat or pilgrimage overseas, avoid making arrangements today and use this time to meditate on your best course.
June 26: Mars will begin a two month retrograde in your communication, siblings, contracts, and short trips house. Expect slowdowns in all these areas, and if you want to give a presentation, hold a book signing, or publicize anything, wait until after the retrograde to do so. Consider taking a vacation, during this time, perhaps with your sibs, if you can get away.
June 27: A full Moon arrives in Capricorn in your earned income house, and with Saturn joined with the Moon and the Sun involved in this alignment, this day may feel draining, and job or money concerns could add to your burden. See what peaks at this powerful full Moon but wait to take action because you will benefit from operating strategically.
June 28: Mercury leaves watery, emotional Cancer for fiery, passionate Leo. Let your mind turn to travel and higher learning and philosophy and indulge your inner child’s need to dream of going to faraway places as dreams could become reality if you apply intelligence to making them happen.
June 30: Mercury in Leo will bump up against Uranus in your sixth house of work and fitness. Ideas for advancing your career through education may face obstacles, or technology issues may hamper work on a publicity campaign or publishing initiative. Be kind to yourself and all concerned by stepping back to achieve better perspective.
As you can see, this month will bring shifting energies to help us all appreciate nature’s rhythms at the solstice and during Mars retrograde. May the wisdom of slowing down infuse your month.
