June Astrology – Headline News
Your Money And Spiritual Life
June opens with two planets in Gemini:
- The warm and powerful Sun, who always shines his light freely and generously to bring joy and optimism to our world
- Mercury, who governs thinking, communication, and commerce and brings playfulness and curiosity wherever he goes
Although Mercury leaves Gemini for Cancer on June 12, the Moon will link with the Sun in Gemini from June 15 through 17, lending her emotional sensitivity to prevailing energies before the Sun changes signs on June 21.
Gemini is an air sign symbolized by the Twins, two playful and mischievous siblings who love to learn and talk and be on the go. Sometimes they play tricks by switching places with each other, reminding us that things—and people—are not always what they seem. Finding the truth means going beyond mere data to understand the story behind the facts and using the mind to make order and sense out of a mountain of details. At its best, this lighthearted sign helps us stay youthful by inspiring us to remain curious, go new places, and learn something each day.
Find out more about Gemini in my article, Gemini Time: Be Curious And Think Higher Thoughts. Also, you can tune in to this sign’s airy vitality and mental resourcefulness with The Gemini Meditation, an uplifting guided meditation.
For you, Scorpio, planets in Gemini always activate your eighth house of shared money such as child support, alimony, credit, loans, mortgages, and venture capital as well as money that arrives in a lump sum such as insurance payouts, commissions, or inheritance. This area also governs the deepest and most passionate part of yourself, expressed through the great mysteries of your sexuality and spirituality. The Gemini planets this month can help quicken your mind and refresh your thinking. They also can help you step back and analyze how you handle money and communicate with your business or marriage partner about finances. These energies also may help you lighten up when it comes to intimate relationships or inspire you to delve into meditation, paranormal phenomena, life after death, and other topics related to your soul.
Your Travel And Education
On June 21, the Sun leaves Gemini for Cancer, which will start the month of the Crab. You’ll feel the energies shift from the airy, mental realm of Gemini to the emotional, imaginative world of Cancer. This change takes us into feelings and intuition, a good antidote to Gemini’s strongly intellectual approach to life.
For you, Scorpio, planets in Cancer increase your desire to expand because they pour energy into your ninth house of increased perspective through travel, foreign people and places, and philosophy. This area also governs expanding your mind through higher education. As soon as the Sun enters Cancer, you may feel an urge to go on vacation or take a long distance trip for business, make overseas connections, straighten out a visa or passport issue, apply to college to earn a degree, or attend a lecture at a local university.
Solstice Arrives With A New Season
When the Sun enters the astrological sign of Cancer on June 21, we start a new season: summer in the northern hemisphere and winter in the southern. This day is called the solstice, one of two solstices we experience annually.
Solstice literally means “Sun stopped” or “Sun made to stand.” At the solstices, the Sun seems to stand still in the sky for about three days, when it reaches the limit of its movement either northward or southward. The Sun pauses and then gradually reverses course, starting a new six month cycle.
The June solstice ranks as one of the annual power days in our calendar, along with the December solstice and the equinoxes in March and September. The two equinoxes arrive on the days when the amount of daylight equals the amount of darkness, teaching us about balance and the blend of dark and light.
The solstices, however, bring us extremes because either the daylight or darkness prevails, dramatically so, and gives us either the longest or shortest day of the year. Solstices cap a six month story of light, during which the physical light that warms our lives and hearts reaches a turning point.
For those in the northern hemisphere, the June solstice brings the longest period of daylight, the climax of the Sun’s journey toward increasing light since the previous solstice. For those in the southern hemisphere, the opposite holds true, as June brings the shortest day and longest night and the climax of the Sun’s movement toward its least amount of light.
Regardless of where you live, the solstices and equinoxes offer excellent opportunities for meditation because nature’s quarterly changes mirror the inner, spiritual changes we experience throughout the year. Each of these four power days carries messages about the nature of light, both physical and spiritual, and rewards the time we devote to inner reflection.
In the case of the solstice, the apparent lack of motion concentrates the Sun’s energies, providing a powerful opportunity and focal point for spiritual work.
For you, Scorpio, the June solstice allows you to think back on your college days, trips you took to far flung places, and people from other cultures you’ve met through the years as you honor the ways these experiences expanded your perspective and increased your sense of security by knowing you’re part of all humanity and at home wherever you go. It also may inspire you to get more education, take a trip, or reconnect with people from the past.
Time To Slow Down: Mars Goes Retrograde
Mars has been traveling through Aquarius since mid-May. This month, from our perspective on Earth, it will appear that Mars is slowing down and then stopping in his tracks on June 26, when this fiery planet goes retrograde.
Similar to Mercury retrograde, this phenomenon will coincide with a slowdown that gives us time to pause, reflect, and redo. Mars will continue its apparent backward motion for two months, until August 27. Most of that time will occur in Aquarius, with the last two weeks happening in Capricorn.
Mars goes retrograde the least often of our solar system’s planets, about every two years. Nevertheless, we feel these periods keenly because Mars is the planet of energy, drive, and new beginnings.
When retrograde, Mars’s usual vitality disappears. If you’re accustomed to constant activity, it can feel strange when everything around you stalls and forward progress becomes elusive.
Heed these signals and take the opportunity to slow down, as that’s just the tonic you will need at this time. Life will carry on, but you’ll be in the slow lane for a while, giving you a chance to review the past two years since the last Mars retrograde, which occurred from April 17 to June 29, 2016. This time also will help you evaluate what you’ve achieved, make peace with what didn’t work out, and plan adjustments to make after the retrograde lifts. In fact, Mars retrograde can be the perfect time for vacation or at least a staycation and increased leisure time.
Slowing down can help you improve health, create more balanced habits, and streamline your to do list. It also offers potential for exploring sexuality, desire, and how you go after what you want in relationships. In addition, this period favors meditation about your actions, especially how you apply your will and whether your intentions are honorable. Remember that Mars, the warrior, needs to spiritualize his actions to serve at the highest level and create the greatest good.
For you, Scorpio, Mars retrograde looms large because Mars was the ancient ruler of your sign, before we knew about Pluto, Scorpio’s modern ruler. Pay attention to your energy this month and notice how it changes as the retrograde draws near. Your drive to accomplishment may taper off, and you may find yourself desiring nothing so much as a break from the action.
With the retrograde occurring mostly in Aquarius, with a bit of Capricorn at the end, you likely will experience its decreased energies in your activities related to home, family, and real estate as well as in your communication, short trips, and relationships with siblings. Give yourself and your family permission to ease up on activities, take a break from certain relatives if you wish, and plan a getaway or reduce your hours on the job. These steps will ensure you come back rested and ready for action when the retrograde lifts at the end of August.
Plan Your Month: Important Dates In June
This month brings several key dates to watch as you plan your month. Mark your calendar and take action (or rest) as recommended on the dates listed here so your efforts can bring progress in all areas.
June 1 and 2: Mercury in your passion house angles perfectly with Mars in your home house, so take this sparkling opportunity to enjoy intimate encounters with your beloved and communicate your desires openly. Also, Venus in your travel area will make the same perfect angle with Jupiter in your personality and pet projects house and with Neptune in your creativity and romance sector. A project dear to you may take on new creative luster and allow you to travel, perhaps overseas, or a foreign contact may be attracted to you and share a desire for a romantic relationship. These planets also bring vibrations of nobility and higher love, so tap your inner self in meditation to bring the most beautiful aspects of your soul to whatever you undertake.
June 5: Venus in your overseas and education area will face off against your ruler, Pluto, in your local and communication house, suggesting challenges related to any form of travel or education as well as local and international concerns. Officials may not be sympathetic, so wait to hold sensitive discussions or initiate anything new. Instead, harness the Sun and Mercury, which will join together in Gemini and ignite your ability to speak passionately about anything from shared finances to intimacy to spiritual topics. You will have the power to talk yourself and others into—or out of—anything, so focus on the highest good for all. Ease tensions through meditation or pleasure with your partner.
June 6: Both Mercury and the Sun in your joint money house will challenge Neptune in your children house. Negotiations related to child support or alimony may stall, or information may be confusing or unavailable. Pushing for resolution may muddle things further, so bide your time until this alignment passes.
June 10 – 13: The Moon enters its balsamic phase, the “dark of the Moon” time before the new Moon. Slow down and review the past month since the new Moon that arrived on May 15. Meditate, rest, and reflect on what you want to do in the coming month. Find out more about this mysterious monthly time in my Balsamic Moon Phase article. Also, this period is excellent for spiritual work, meditation, and prayer. See my article on How To Relieve Stress – Meditate At The Right Time for details.
June 12: Mercury leaves your joint money and passion house for your ninth house of travel and education. You may leave town for business or pleasure or explore going back to school for a degree. If you need to overcome an immigration or visa concern, new and better solutions may emerge now.
June 13: A busy day, with a new Moon in Gemini lighting your money and deep mysteries house. The next two weeks bring your best time all year to start anything new related to finances such as applying for a loan or mortgage, managing family credit, upgrading insurance, or handling tax issues related to an inheritance as well as exploring your inner self through your sexual nature and your spiritual life. Also, Mercury, Gemini’s ruler, will align helpfully with Uranus, allowing a business or marriage partner to supply brilliant ideas for overcoming anything related to travel, immigration, or education. In addition, Venus will enter passionate Leo, bringing love and kindness to your career as well as the potential for financial gain. Apply for an industry award, seek a promotion or raise, or take a leadership course to integrate your heartfelt passion with your profession. Also, your persuasive ability and good looks can attract attention now at the office, bringing possible advancement or romantic overtures, so if you’re unattached, be receptive to possible partners.
June 14: Venus in your career area tangles with Uranus in your marriage house, suggesting sudden financial developments causing tension between work and home.
June 15: Mercury and Saturn face off across your two travel houses, so you may hear about new travel policies at work or have to streamline a trip. These areas also rule communication and publicity, so a media project may encounter delays or reduced budgets. Wait to speak with your boss and other parties involved so you can strategize and consider long term goals.
June 18: Neptune begins its long annual retrograde in your inner child and creativity house, helping you reconnect with your playful side and old hobbies or activities.
June 19 – 20: Mercury will align beautifully with Jupiter and then Neptune, connecting your personality, travel, and creativity houses. Your desire to "live large"may inspire you creatively and spark desires to travel, meet with foreign dignitaries, or gain exposure for a pet project or creative initiative.
June 21: The Sun leaves Gemini for Cancer, energizing your ninth house of foreign cultures and personal expansion. Celebrate this solstice day by enjoying a cuisine you haven’t tried before and spend time telling stories with loved ones, especially about ancestors’ adventures. Enjoy the next month’s nurturing, caring energies.
June 22: The Sun in your international house connects well with Uranus, bringing new ideas for a trip with your partner or a high tech business venture with global potential.
June 23: Mercury in your higher education house challenges your ruler, Pluto, in your early education house, suggesting an issue with transcripts or other proof of qualification for starting a degree program. Gather data before approaching officials.
June 25: Venus will be out of sorts with Jupiter in your health area, so if someone asks you to work late or take on extra projects, be careful about overpromising and wait to commit if possible. If you’re working on a personal project especially meaningful to you or leveraging your image for career purposes, take this day to review your next move before taking action or contacting others involved in your efforts.
June 26: Mars will begin a two month retrograde in your home, family, and parents house. Expect slowdowns in all these areas, and if you want to buy a new home, invest in land, or make home improvements, wait to start work or form relationships with realtors, lenders, or contractors until after the retrograde. Consider taking a vacation during this time if you can get away.
June 27: A full Moon arrives in Capricorn in your communication and sibling house, and with Saturn joined with the Moon and the Sun involved in this alignment, this day may feel draining because of demands related to brothers and sisters or travel. See what peaks at this powerful full Moon but wait to take action because you will benefit from operating strategically.
June 28: Mercury leaves watery, emotional Cancer for fiery, passionate Leo. Let your mind turn to your career and the creativity and leadership you bring to your work.
June 30: Mercury in Leo will bump up against Uranus in your seventh house of partnership and agreements. Your agent or another business partner may disagree with you about your career plans, or news about an offer or partnership agreement may not be what you’d hoped. Be kind to yourself and all concerned by stepping back to achieve better perspective.
As you can see, this month will bring shifting energies to help us all appreciate nature’s rhythms at the solstice and during Mars retrograde. May the wisdom of slowing down infuse your month.
