June Astrology – Headline News
Your Career And Public Standing
June opens with two planets in Gemini:
- The warm and powerful Sun, who always shines his light freely and generously to bring joy and optimism to our world
- Mercury, your ruler, who governs thinking, communication, and commerce and brings playfulness and curiosity wherever he goes
Although Mercury leaves Gemini for Cancer on June 12, the Moon will link with the Sun in Gemini from June 15 through 17, lending her emotional sensitivity to prevailing energies before the Sun changes signs on June 21.
Gemini is an air sign symbolized by the Twins, two playful and mischievous siblings who love to learn and talk and be on the go. Sometimes they play tricks by switching places with each other, reminding us that things—and people—are not always what they seem. Finding the truth means going beyond mere data to understand the story behind the facts and using the mind to make order and sense out of a mountain of details. At its best, this lighthearted sign helps us stay youthful by inspiring us to remain curious, go new places, and learn something each day.
Find out more about Gemini in my article, Gemini Time: Be Curious And Think Higher Thoughts. Also, you can tune in to this sign’s airy vitality and mental resourcefulness with The Gemini Meditation, an uplifting guided meditation.
For you, Virgo, planets in Gemini always activate your tenth house of career, awards and honors, and public standing. The Gemini planets this month can help bring liveliness to your leadership and refresh your work life. They also can help you communicate more clearly, bring humor to your public presence, and make you smarter about long term work goals. These energies also may help you lighten up when it comes to your role at your company or in your industry or energize you to be on the go to chat with community representatives and professional connections as well as people at the office.
Your Friends And Humanitarianism
On June 21, the Sun leaves Gemini for Cancer, which will start the month of the Crab. You’ll feel the energies shift from the airy, mental realm of Gemini to the emotional, imaginative world of Cancer. This change takes us into feelings and intuition, a good antidote to Gemini’s strongly intellectual approach to life.
For you, Virgo, planets in Cancer increase your desire to make friends and join with others at events or groups because they pour energy into your eleventh house of friendship, associates, networking, and memberships. This area also governs how you can help save the world because it’s associated with charitable efforts and humanitarian impulses. As soon as the Sun enters Cancer, you may feel an urge to join an industry trade group, network more, see friends, volunteer, or donate to your favorite charity.
Solstice Arrives With A New Season
When the Sun enters the astrological sign of Cancer on June 21, we start a new season: summer in the northern hemisphere and winter in the southern. This day is called the solstice, one of two solstices we experience annually.
Solstice literally means “Sun stopped” or “Sun made to stand.” At the solstices, the Sun seems to stand still in the sky for about three days, when it reaches the limit of its movement either northward or southward. The Sun pauses and then gradually reverses course, starting a new six month cycle.
The June solstice ranks as one of the annual power days in our calendar, along with the December solstice and the equinoxes in March and September. The two equinoxes arrive on the days when the amount of daylight equals the amount of darkness, teaching us about balance and the blend of dark and light.
The solstices, however, bring us extremes because either the daylight or darkness prevails, dramatically so, and gives us either the longest or shortest day of the year. Solstices cap a six month story of light, during which the physical light that warms our lives and hearts reaches a turning point.
For those in the northern hemisphere, the June solstice brings the longest period of daylight, the climax of the Sun’s journey toward increasing light since the previous solstice. For those in the southern hemisphere, the opposite holds true, as June brings the shortest day and longest night and the climax of the Sun’s movement toward its least amount of light.
Regardless of where you live, the solstices and equinoxes offer excellent opportunities for meditation because nature’s quarterly changes mirror the inner, spiritual changes we experience throughout the year. Each of these four power days carries messages about the nature of light, both physical and spiritual, and rewards the time we devote to inner reflection.
In the case of the solstice, the apparent lack of motion concentrates the Sun’s energies, providing a powerful opportunity and focal point for spiritual work.
For you, Virgo, the June solstice allows you to bring nurturing energies to help your friends or take on a leadership role at an association or networking event. It also may inspire you to help others achieve the security and foundation you enjoy by volunteering, mentoring young people, or getting your company involved in a fundraising initiative.
Time To Slow Down: Mars Goes Retrograde
Mars has been traveling through Aquarius since mid-May. This month, from our perspective on Earth, it will appear that Mars is slowing down and then stopping in his tracks on June 26, when this fiery planet goes retrograde.
Similar to Mercury retrograde, this phenomenon will coincide with a slowdown that gives us time to pause, reflect, and redo. Mars will continue its apparent backward motion for two months, until August 27. Most of that time will occur in Aquarius, with the last two weeks happening in Capricorn.
Mars goes retrograde the least often of our solar system’s planets, about every two years. Nevertheless, we feel these periods keenly because Mars is the planet of energy, drive, and new beginnings.
When retrograde, Mars’s usual vitality disappears. If you’re accustomed to constant activity, it can feel strange when everything around you stalls and forward progress becomes elusive.
Heed these signals and take the opportunity to slow down, as that’s just the tonic you will need at this time. Life will carry on, but you’ll be in the slow lane for a while, giving you a chance to review the past two years since the last Mars retrograde, which occurred from April 17 to June 29, 2016. This time also will help you evaluate what you’ve achieved, make peace with what didn’t work out, and plan adjustments to make after the retrograde lifts. In fact, Mars retrograde can be the perfect time for vacation or at least a staycation and increased leisure time.
Slowing down can help you improve health, create more balanced habits, and streamline your to do list. It also offers potential for exploring sexuality, desire, and how you go after what you want in relationships. In addition, this period favors meditation about your actions, especially how you apply your will and whether your intentions are honorable. Remember that Mars, the warrior, needs to spiritualize his actions to serve at the highest level and create the greatest good.
For you, Virgo, Mars retrograde can help you notice your energy this month and see how it changes as the retrograde draws near. Your drive to accomplishment may taper off, and you may find yourself desiring nothing so much as a break from the action.
With the retrograde occurring mostly in Aquarius, with a bit of Capricorn at the end, you likely will experience its decreased energies in most aspects of your daily life, especially your job, health, fitness, and interactions with pets as well as your children, romantic life, and creative projects. Give yourself permission to ease up on work projects and rigorous fitness routines, take a break from stringent regimens if you wish, and plan a vacation or reduce your hours on the job. These steps will ensure you come back rested and ready for action when the retrograde lifts at the end of August.
Plan Your Month: Important Dates In June
This month brings several key dates to watch as you plan your month. Mark your calendar and take action (or rest) as recommended on the dates listed here so your efforts can bring progress in all areas.
June 1 and 2: Mercury, your ruler, in your career house angles perfectly with Mars in your work house, so you may hear about a promotion or recognition of your leadership, or your gift of gab may impress VIPs who want you to work on a special initiative. Also, Venus in your networking area will make the same perfect angle with Jupiter in your sibling and short trips house and with Neptune in your marriage sector. A smooth talking connection you make at a work event may be a good match for an unattached sibling, and your spouse could help pave the way for a romance to take root, perhaps by suggesting an outing where the new lovebirds can get to know one another. Also, your business or marriage partner could help you make lucrative connections or get accepted to join a prestigious club; if you’re unattached, a brother or sister may invite you to a fundraiser where you may meet someone who stirs your soul along with your passions.
June 5: Venus in your group activities area will face off against Pluto in your children and creativity house, suggesting challenges balancing volunteer work or networking obligations with family responsibilities and faithfulness to your muse. Business associates and family members may not be sympathetic, so do your best and put off sensitive discussions. Instead, harness the Sun and Mercury, which will join together in Gemini to give you the magic touch in communicating your vision to VIPs at work or to the community at large. You will have the power to talk yourself and others into—or out of—anything, so focus on the highest good for all and ease tensions by suggesting a pleasant outing with coworkers or inviting a sibling to join you for dinner after work.
June 6: Both Mercury and the Sun in your career house will challenge Neptune in your marriage house. Your desire for professional recognition and advancement may encounter confusion or disagreement with your spouse or business partner, and pushing your agenda may make things more challenging. Show kindness toward your partner and juggle conflicting demands, as clarity can emerge later.
June 10 – 13: The Moon enters its balsamic phase, the “dark of the Moon” time before the new Moon. Slow down and review the past month since the new Moon that arrived on May 15. Meditate, rest, and reflect on what you want to do in the coming month. Find out more about this mysterious monthly time in my Balsamic Moon Phase article. Also, this period is excellent for spiritual work, meditation, and prayer. See my article on How To Relieve Stress – Meditate At The Right Time for details.
June 12: Your ruler, Mercury, leaves your professional house for your eleventh house of philanthropy and friendship. You may have ideas about funding a scholarship, donating time and money to support a favorite cause, or enjoying events with friends. If someone you know needs your help, new and better solutions may emerge now.
June 13: A busy day, with a new Moon in Gemini lighting your recognition, career, and community leadership house. The next two weeks bring your best time all year to start anything new related to your professional goals, an award application, demonstrating leadership, running for office, or providing service within your community. Also, Gemini’s ruler, Mercury, will align helpfully with Uranus, bringing brilliant potential to networking plans related to foreign trade or friendships with people in education or overseas. In addition, Venus will enter passionate Leo, bringing love and kindness to your house of psychology, dreams, intuition, and spirituality. Your dreams can become more beautiful and noble now, and your sixth sense about other people will be ultra accurate. If you need help with a health concern, you can find a sympathetic clinician now, and if you want to enrich your spiritual life, you can do so on your own as well as with your partner, perhaps in dramatic ways.
June 14: Venus in your privacy area tangles with Uranus in your publishing and broadcasting house, suggesting a sudden development may leak sensitive personal data or put a secret arts project in the spotlight prematurely.
June 15: Mercury in your house of friendship faces off with Saturn in your personal expression house, so if you’re working on a cultural initiative with a friend, you may see creative differences or power struggles that affect your ability to secure a venue for presenting your project. Wait to address concerns with your friend so you can strategize and consider long term goals.
June 18: Neptune begins its long annual retrograde in your partnership and agreements house, helping you reconnect with the spiritual roots of your closest bonds and embrace the love and healing they give you.
June 19 – 20: Mercury will align beautifully with Jupiter and then Neptune, stimulating noble ideas and mystical thinking about your relationships, from friends and business associates to your marriage and professional partners to your siblings and neighbors. Make time to meditate, because these planets can change your perspective and increase your compassion and gratitude for others.
June 21: The Sun leaves Gemini for Cancer, energizing your eleventh house of volunteering, friends, and clubs. Celebrate this solstice day with friends as well as family, perhaps at a fundraiser or working together on a service project. Enjoy the next month’s nurturing, caring energies.
June 22: The Sun in your humanitarian house connects well with Uranus, bringing futuristic ideas for a global volunteer effort or ways to leverage technology to improve conditions for needy children in other countries.
June 23: Mercury, your ruler, in your networking house challenges Pluto in your children house. If you want to ask a business associate to help your child get a job, internship, or recommendation, wait to make your request, even if the young person involved presses the matter.
June 25: Venus will be out of sorts with Jupiter in your sibling area, so if you want to help a brother or sister, especially financially, hold off on taking action as you could take on more than you can afford. If you’re working on a confidential communication project, use this day to contemplate your next move and avoid meetings with VIPs or creatives.
June 26: Mars will begin a two month retrograde in your job, health, and daily life management house. Expect slowdowns in all these areas, and if you want to start a fitness routine or join a gym, wait until after the retrograde. Consider taking a vacation during this time if you can get away.
June 27: A full Moon arrives in Capricorn in your romance house, and with Saturn joined with the Moon and the Sun involved in this alignment, your relationship could peak with a move toward something permanent. See what occurs and how you feel at this powerful full Moon and know that being realistic and mature about your relationship will help create a lasting union if it’s meant to be.
June 28: Mercury leaves watery, emotional Cancer for fiery, passionate Leo. Let your mind turn to spiritual thoughts and psychological insights. Trust your inner knowing and pay attention to all hunches, as your mind will be quick and fertile with special guidance from dreams and intuition.
June 30: Mercury in Leo will bump up against Uranus in your ninth house of education and philosophy. Your cherished ideas and research may face obstacles from a brilliant and opinionated mentor or professor. Be kind to yourself by taking a break and stepping back to achieve better perspective.
As you can see, this month will bring shifting energies to help us all appreciate nature’s rhythms at the solstice and during Mars retrograde. May the wisdom of slowing down infuse your month.
