June Astrology – Headline News
Your Friends And Business Associates
June opens with two planets in Gemini:
- The warm and powerful Sun, your ruler, who always shines his light freely and generously to bring joy and optimism to our world
- Mercury, who governs thinking, communication, and commerce and brings playfulness and curiosity wherever he goes
Although Mercury leaves Gemini for Cancer on June 12, the Moon will link with the Sun in Gemini from June 15 through 17, lending her emotional sensitivity to prevailing energies before the Sun changes signs on June 21.
Gemini is an air sign symbolized by the Twins, two playful and mischievous siblings who love to learn and talk and be on the go. Sometimes they play tricks by switching places with each other, reminding us that things—and people—are not always what they seem. Finding the truth means going beyond mere data to understand the story behind the facts and using the mind to make order and sense out of a mountain of details. At its best, this lighthearted sign helps us stay youthful by inspiring us to remain curious, go new places, and learn something each day.
Find out more about Gemini in my article, Gemini Time: Be Curious And Think Higher Thoughts. Also, you can tune in to this sign’s airy vitality and mental resourcefulness with The Gemini Meditation, an uplifting guided meditation.
For you, Leo, planets in Gemini always activate your eleventh house of friendship, people you meet through business mixers and clubs, and charitable work. The Gemini planets this month can help liven up your relationships and spark curiosity that leads to meeting new people. They also can help you analyze how you interact with people at large events or club meetings and be more objective about whom you attract as friends. These energies also may help you lighten up when it comes to making the world a better place, inspiring you to help plan the entertainment for a fundraiser or use your gift for playful humor to support a cause.
Your Spirituality And Health
On June 21, the Sun leaves Gemini for Cancer, which will start the month of the Crab. You’ll feel the energies shift from the airy, mental realm of Gemini to the emotional, imaginative world of Cancer. This change takes us into feelings and intuition, a good antidote to Gemini’s strongly intellectual approach to life.
For you, Leo, planets in Cancer increase your desire to spend time alone because they pour energy into your twelfth house of solitude, dreams, and spiritual seeking. This area also governs health, especially psychological concerns or time spent at a rehab center or other facility to get well. As soon as the Sun enters Cancer, you may feel an urge to tackle a longstanding health issue, go on a spiritual retreat, start a meditation program, or spend more time alone to connect with your inner self.
Solstice Arrives With A New Season
When the Sun enters the astrological sign of Cancer on June 21, we start a new season: summer in the northern hemisphere and winter in the southern. This day is called the solstice, one of two solstices we experience annually.
Solstice literally means “Sun stopped” or “Sun made to stand.” At the solstices, the Sun seems to stand still in the sky for about three days, when it reaches the limit of its movement either northward or southward. The Sun pauses and then gradually reverses course, starting a new six month cycle.
The June solstice ranks as one of the annual power days in our calendar, along with the December solstice and the equinoxes in March and September. The two equinoxes arrive on the days when the amount of daylight equals the amount of darkness, teaching us about balance and the blend of dark and light.
The solstices, however, bring us extremes because either the daylight or darkness prevails, dramatically so, and gives us either the longest or shortest day of the year. Solstices cap a six month story of light, during which the physical light that warms our lives and hearts reaches a turning point.
For those in the northern hemisphere, the June solstice brings the longest period of daylight, the climax of the Sun’s journey toward increasing light since the previous solstice. For those in the southern hemisphere, the opposite holds true, as June brings the shortest day and longest night and the climax of the Sun’s movement toward its least amount of light.
Regardless of where you live, the solstices and equinoxes offer excellent opportunities for meditation because nature’s quarterly changes mirror the inner, spiritual changes we experience throughout the year. Each of these four power days carries messages about the nature of light, both physical and spiritual, and rewards the time we devote to inner reflection.
In the case of the solstice, the apparent lack of motion concentrates the Sun’s energies, providing a powerful opportunity and focal point for spiritual work.
For you, Leo, the June solstice allows you to address health, creative inspiration you receive in dreams, and the security you derive from your spiritual life. It also may inspire you to honor your imagination and the deep well of creative ideas you can tap in times of greatest need to give your life greater joy as well as security.
Time To Slow Down: Mars Goes Retrograde
Mars has been traveling through Aquarius since mid-May. This month, from our perspective on Earth, it will appear that Mars is slowing down and then stopping in his tracks on June 26, when this fiery planet goes retrograde.
Similar to Mercury retrograde, this phenomenon will coincide with a slowdown that gives us time to pause, reflect, and redo. Mars will continue its apparent backward motion for two months, until August 27. Most of that time will occur in Aquarius, with the last two weeks happening in Capricorn.
Mars goes retrograde the least often of our solar system’s planets, about every two years. Nevertheless, we feel these periods keenly because Mars is the planet of energy, drive, and new beginnings.
When retrograde, Mars’s usual vitality disappears. If you’re accustomed to constant activity, it can feel strange when everything around you stalls and forward progress becomes elusive.
Heed these signals and take the opportunity to slow down, as that’s just the tonic you will need at this time. Life will carry on, but you’ll be in the slow lane for a while, giving you a chance to review the past two years since the last Mars retrograde, which occurred from April 17 to June 29, 2016. This time also will help you evaluate what you’ve achieved, make peace with what didn’t work out, and plan adjustments to make after the retrograde lifts. In fact, Mars retrograde can be the perfect time for vacation or at least a staycation and increased leisure time.
Slowing down can help you improve health, create more balanced habits, and streamline your to do list. It also offers potential for exploring sexuality, desire, and how you go after what you want in relationships. In addition, this period favors meditation about your actions, especially how you apply your will and whether your intentions are honorable. Remember that Mars, the warrior, needs to spiritualize his actions to serve at the highest level and create the greatest good.
For you, Leo, Mars retrograde can help you pay better attention to your energy while you notice how it changes as the retrograde draws near. Your drive to accomplishment may taper off, and you may find yourself desiring nothing so much as a break from the action.
With the retrograde occurring mostly in Aquarius, with a bit of Capricorn at the end, you likely will experience its decreased energies in your marriage and business partnerships and any agreements as well as in your job and fitness routine. Give yourself and your life and business partners permission to ease up, take a break from marriage planning if you’re engaged, hold off on signing new agreements or partnership contracts, and plan a vacation or reduce your hours on the job. These steps will ensure you come back rested and ready for action when the retrograde lifts at the end of August.
Plan Your Month: Important Dates In June
This month brings several key dates to watch as you plan your month. Mark your calendar and take action (or rest) as recommended on the dates listed here so your efforts can bring progress in all areas.
June 1 and 2: Mercury in your networking house angles perfectly with Mars in your partnership house, so your spouse or a business partner may help you make a valuable new connection, or your ability to persuade may impress decision makers at a club you hope to join or an industry association. Also, Venus in your privacy area will make the same perfect angle with Jupiter in your home and family house and with Neptune in your deep spirituality sector. On the material plane, money may come your way through an insurance payout or inheritance that includes valuable art, allowing you to improve your home, and if you have a medical concern, a kindly care giver or clinician could help you recuperate more readily. These three houses also govern spirituality and mystical insights, so you could have a deep spiritual revelation, decide to create a meditation area at home, or savor dreams of higher love made real.
June 5: Venus in your secret projects area will face off against Pluto in your job house, suggesting challenges at work if you’ve been asked to manage a confidential matter. Colleagues and employees may not be receptive, and bosses may be contrary, so wait to hold sensitive discussions. Instead, harness your ruler, the Sun, and Mercury, which will join together in Gemini and make you a persuasion dynamo for a cause you support or at a networking event. You will have the power to talk yourself and others into—or out of—anything, so focus on the highest good for all and ease any tensions by suggesting a fun outing, perhaps to attend a fundraiser, or a work project to help a charity.
June 6: Both Mercury and the Sun in your humanitarian house will challenge Neptune in your shared money house. Your desire to fund a scholarship or join the board of a school or nonprofit may be unrealistic or could create concerns with your partner over financial commitments required. Avoid making promises and bide your time as you assess finances and listen to your partner.
June 10 – 13: The Moon enters its balsamic phase, the “dark of the Moon” time before the new Moon. Slow down and review the past month since the new Moon that arrived on May 15. Meditate, rest, and reflect on what you want to do in the coming month. Find out more about this mysterious monthly time in my Balsamic Moon Phase article. Also, this period is excellent for spiritual work, meditation, and prayer. See my article on How To Relieve Stress – Meditate At The Right Time for details.
June 12: Mercury leaves your friendship house for your twelfth house of health and solitude. You may have clearer dreams, flashes of inspiration, or inspiring ideas for an ingenious invention or project. If you’ve been concerned about a health issue, new and better solutions may emerge now.
June 13: A busy day, with a new Moon in Gemini lighting your networking, clubs, and charitable house. The next two weeks bring your best time all year to start anything new related to joining an organization, making new business connections, and volunteering to apply your ideas to help others. Also, Mercury, Gemini’s ruler, will align helpfully with Uranus, so heed hunches to express your uniqueness through your career. In addition, Venus will enter passionate Leo, bringing even more love and kindness to your personality and star power to your looks. Get a makeover, upgrade your wardrobe, and walk with a new confidence and grace. Your new look will attract attention, and if you’re unattached, you could draw a new love to you. Also, bless others with your warmth by seeking ways to apply charm in every encounter with friends and strangers alike.
June 14: Venus in your health area tangles with Uranus in your career house, suggesting sudden work pressures could feel draining or dampen your spirits.
June 15: Mercury in your privacy house faces off with Saturn in your job house, so you may need to rethink life balance or could hear word that vacation or work at home policies are changing. Wait to speak with your boss so you can strategize and consider long term goals.
June 18: Neptune begins its long annual retrograde in your deep spirituality house, helping you reconnect with your compassion and explore ways to bond spiritually through intimacy with your partner.
June 19 – 20: Mercury will align beautifully with Jupiter and then Neptune, all in your mystical houses. Make time to meditate because these planets can expand your vision, enlarge your inner life, and renew your compassion.
June 21: The Sun, your ruler, leaves Gemini for Cancer, energizing your twelfth house of psychology, dreams, health, and spirituality. Celebrate this solstice day with time on your own to enjoy nature and meditation as well as time with loved ones over a nourishing meal. Keep paper and pen by your bed to record dreams or insights when you awaken the next morning. Enjoy the next month’s nurturing, caring energies.
June 22: The Sun in your behind the scenes projects house connects well with Uranus, bringing recognition from VIPs for your innovative approach to a sensitive matter or a project in the early stages of development.
June 23: Mercury in your privacy house challenges Pluto in your health and work house. If you’re working on a health concern, you may have to reveal more information than you wish to secure needed time off or benefits coverage. Wait to speak with human resources staff or ask for your boss’s support.
June 25: Venus will be out of sorts with Jupiter in your home and real estate area, so if you need family support for a pet project, hold off on discussions. If you’re working on anything related to real estate or land development, use this day to plan your next move before approaching others involved in the deal.
June 26: Mars will begin a two month retrograde in your partnership, marriage, and agreements house. Expect slowdowns in all these areas, and if you want to get engaged, set a marriage date, or sign with a new agent or other business partner, wait until after the retrograde. Consider taking a vacation during this time if you can get away.
June 27: A full Moon arrives in Capricorn in your work and health house, and with Saturn joined with the Moon and the Sun involved in this alignment, this day may feel draining or demanding. See what peaks at this powerful full Moon but wait to take action because you will benefit from operating strategically.
June 28: Mercury leaves watery, emotional Cancer for fiery, passionate Leo. Let your mind turn to yourself and the creative projects that matter most to you. Bring lighthearted playfulness to all you do and call a brother or sister for a chat or an outing.
June 30: Mercury in Leo will bump up against Uranus in your tenth house of career and professional achievement. Ideas for advancement or a new career may need reworking before you can manifest them, or you may need to adjust your personal style or goals to achieve the success you dream of. Be kind to yourself and all concerned by stepping back to achieve better perspective.
As you can see, this month will bring shifting energies to help us all appreciate nature’s rhythms at the solstice and during Mars retrograde. May the wisdom of slowing down infuse your month.
