June Astrology – Headline News
Your Money And Values
June opens with two planets in Gemini:
- The warm and powerful Sun, who always shines his light freely and generously to bring joy and optimism to our world
- Mercury, who governs thinking, communication, and commerce and brings playfulness and curiosity wherever he goes
Although Mercury leaves Gemini for Cancer on June 12, the Moon will link with the Sun in Gemini from June 15 through 17, lending her emotional sensitivity to prevailing energies before the Sun changes signs on June 21.
Gemini is an air sign symbolized by the Twins, two playful and mischievous siblings who love to learn and talk and be on the go. Sometimes they play tricks by switching places with each other, reminding us that things—and people—are not always what they seem. Finding the truth means going beyond mere data to understand the story behind the facts and using the mind to make order and sense out of a mountain of details. At its best, this lighthearted sign helps us stay youthful by inspiring us to remain curious, go new places, and learn something each day.
Find out more about Gemini in my article, Gemini Time: Be Curious And Think Higher Thoughts. Also, you can tune in to this sign’s airy vitality and mental resourcefulness with The Gemini Meditation, an uplifting guided meditation.
For you, Taurus, planets in Gemini always activate your second house of earned income, personal finance, possessions, and values. The Gemini planets this month can help you bring mental quickness to your job as well as how you budget, track expenses, and pay bills. They also can help you be more analytical and objective about your possessions, particularly in relation to your values and what you truly need for happiness and a comfortable life. These energies also may help you lighten up when it comes to what you own, perhaps by spending money on something that stimulates your mind rather than takes up space in your home or by clearing out drawers and closets and selling or giving away items you don’t need or want anymore.
Your Communication And Siblings
On June 21, the Sun leaves Gemini for Cancer, which will start the month of the Crab. You’ll feel the energies shift from the airy, mental realm of Gemini to the emotional, imaginative world of Cancer. This change takes us into feelings and intuition, a good antidote to Gemini’s strongly intellectual approach to life.
For you, Taurus, planets in Cancer increase your desire to communicate, especially when it comes to how you’re feeling, because they pour energy into your third house of speaking, thinking, writing, and every other form of communication. This area also governs your brothers and sisters as well as short trips and weekend getaways. As soon as the Sun enters Cancer, you may feel like calling or texting a sibling, inviting your sibs or cousins over for dinner, bringing greater imagination to a writing or public relations project, or taking a trip for business or to visit relatives so you can enjoy reminiscing together.
Solstice Arrives With A New Season
When the Sun enters the astrological sign of Cancer on June 21, we start a new season: summer in the northern hemisphere and winter in the southern. This day is called the solstice, one of two solstices we experience annually.
Solstice literally means “Sun stopped” or “Sun made to stand.” At the solstices, the Sun seems to stand still in the sky for about three days, when it reaches the limit of its movement either northward or southward. The Sun pauses and then gradually reverses course, starting a new six month cycle.
The June solstice ranks as one of the annual power days in our calendar, along with the December solstice and the equinoxes in March and September. The two equinoxes arrive on the days when the amount of daylight equals the amount of darkness, teaching us about balance and the blend of dark and light.
The solstices, however, bring us extremes because either the daylight or darkness prevails, dramatically so, and gives us either the longest or shortest day of the year. Solstices cap a six month story of light, during which the physical light that warms our lives and hearts reaches a turning point.
For those in the northern hemisphere, the June solstice brings the longest period of daylight, the climax of the Sun’s journey toward increasing light since the previous solstice. For those in the southern hemisphere, the opposite holds true, as June brings the shortest day and longest night and the climax of the Sun’s movement toward its least amount of light.
Regardless of where you live, the solstices and equinoxes offer excellent opportunities for meditation because nature’s quarterly changes mirror the inner, spiritual changes we experience throughout the year. Each of these four power days carries messages about the nature of light, both physical and spiritual, and rewards the time we devote to inner reflection.
In the case of the solstice, the apparent lack of motion concentrates the Sun’s energies, providing a powerful opportunity and focal point for spiritual work.
For you, Taurus, the June solstice allows you to think about siblings as you remember your childhood experiences and the security you felt being with brothers and sisters. It also may inspire you to look up a beloved teacher from childhood, plan a trip to see classmates, sign up for a writing class to help turn memories into a manuscript, or work with a coach to put more of your real self into your communication at work.
Time To Slow Down: Mars Goes Retrograde
Mars has been traveling through Aquarius since mid-May. This month, from our perspective on Earth, it will appear that Mars is slowing down and then stopping in his tracks on June 26, when this fiery planet goes retrograde.
Similar to Mercury retrograde, this phenomenon will coincide with a slowdown that gives us time to pause, reflect, and redo. Mars will continue its apparent backward motion for two months, until August 27. Most of that time will occur in Aquarius, with the last two weeks happening in Capricorn.
Mars goes retrograde the least often of our solar system’s planets, about every two years. Nevertheless, we feel these periods keenly because Mars is the planet of energy, drive, and new beginnings.
When retrograde, Mars’s usual vitality disappears. If you’re accustomed to constant activity, it can feel strange when everything around you stalls and forward progress becomes elusive.
Heed these signals and take the opportunity to slow down, as that’s just the tonic you will need at this time. Life will carry on, but you’ll be in the slow lane for a while, giving you a chance to review the past two years since the last Mars retrograde, which occurred from April 17 to June 29, 2016. This time also will help you evaluate what you’ve achieved, make peace with what didn’t work out, and plan adjustments to make after the retrograde lifts. In fact, Mars retrograde can be the perfect time for vacation or at least a staycation and increased leisure time.
Slowing down can help you improve health, create more balanced habits, and streamline your to do list. It also offers potential for exploring sexuality, desire, and how you go after what you want in relationships. In addition, this period favors meditation about your actions, especially how you apply your will and whether your intentions are honorable. Remember that Mars, the warrior, needs to spiritualize his actions to serve at the highest level and create the greatest good.
For you, Taurus, Mars retrograde can help you pay attention to your energy, including how it fluctuates and how you usually choose to express it. Notice how it changes as the retrograde draws near. Feelings of urgency or being driven to accomplishment may taper off, and you may find yourself desiring nothing so much as a break from the action.
With the retrograde occurring mostly in Aquarius, with a bit of Capricorn at the end, you likely will experience its decreased energies in your career, leadership, and most public activities as well as anything related to higher education, international concerns such as visas and foreign trade, and long journeys, especially overseas. Give yourself permission to ease up at the office, take a rest from striving so hard, and if you’re in school, find ways to relax to get a break from studies. If possible, consider a vacation to a place you’ve visited before, a retreat center, or a secluded place in nature. These steps will ensure you come back rested and ready for action when the retrograde lifts at the end of August.
Plan Your Month: Important Dates In June
This month brings several key dates to watch as you plan your month. Mark your calendar and take action (or rest) as recommended on the dates listed here so your efforts can bring progress in all areas.
June 1 and 2: Mercury in your income house angles perfectly with Mars in your career house, giving you strong persuasive ability, so schedule an interview if you’re looking for a job, and if you want to negotiate a salary increase or better benefits, speak up and make your case. Also, your ruler, Venus, in your communication area will make the same perfect angle with Jupiter in your marriage and business partnership house and with Neptune in your networking and charities sector. Your charm and your business partner’s industry authority can help you both make a splash at a conference or business mixer, so accept invitations (especially to arts related events or fundraisers), bring plenty of business cards, and have a great time. These areas also affect your marriage and the ways you dream of making the world a better place, so you and your spouse may discuss volunteering for an international humanitarian trip, joining the board of an organization that improves life for society’s most vulnerable, or endowing a scholarship or chair at your alma mater.
June 5: Venus in your communication area will face off against Pluto in your publishing and media house, suggesting challenges or creative differences related to a writing project, international publicity campaign, or broadcasting assignment. Bosses and other powerful people involved may not be sympathetic, so wait to hold sensitive discussions. Instead, harness the Sun and Mercury, which will join together in Gemini and give you the gift of gab with clients and prospects as well as smart ideas for managing projects and budgeting. You will have the power to talk yourself and others into—or out of—anything, so focus on the highest good for all and ease tensions with humor or a mental health break at a nearby cafe.
June 6: Both Mercury and the Sun in your money house will challenge Neptune in your networking house. A friend or business associate’s promises of help to land a new client or job may amount to little, so seek clearer information and wait to take action. Also, involvement in a fundraiser could involve more financial investment or time than you can give comfortably, so wait to commit if possible.
June 10 – 13: The Moon enters its balsamic phase, the “dark of the Moon” time before the new Moon. Slow down and review the past month since the new Moon that arrived on May 15. Meditate, rest, and reflect on what you want to do in the coming month. Find out more about this mysterious monthly time in my Balsamic Moon Phase article. Also, this period is excellent for spiritual work, meditation, and prayer. See my article on How To Relieve Stress – Meditate At The Right Time for details.
June 12: Mercury leaves your money and values house for your third house of communication, short trips, and siblings. You may have clever ideas for a research project or speech, or you may hear from brothers and sisters who have interesting news or ideas for traveling together. If you want to get away for a quick vacation, choose somewhere mentally stimulating and make your plans.
June 13: A busy day, with a new Moon in Gemini lighting your money, budgeting, and possessions house. The next two weeks bring your best time all year to improve your income through a promotion, better job, or new clients; enhance your bottom line by analyzing and adjusting spending or taking on extra work; organize or streamline your belongings; and consider the relationship between your values and what you earn and own. Also, Mercury, Gemini’s ruler, will align helpfully with Uranus, bringing brilliant ideas to improve your health or public image or use your unique talents for a communication or travel project. In addition, Venus, your ruler, will enter passionate Leo, bringing love, kindness, and creativity to your home and family and any real estate or remodeling projects. Set up a home studio so you can devote time to your creative interests or call a decorator or architect about tapping your artistic flair to redecorate or remodel your home. Express your love for your partner and entire family in dramatic and heartfelt ways, call a parent to talk, or invite relatives to join you for an elegant meal at home.
June 14: Venus in your home and family area tangles with Uranus in your personality house, suggesting an unexpected clash with loved ones over a real estate issue or care for an aging parent or a sudden desire for change that may affect your living arrangements.
June 15: Mercury in your house of communication faces off with Saturn in your publishing and international house, so you learn that a book, publicity, or import-export deal has been delayed or downsized. Wait to speak with project leaders as you collect your thoughts and come up with creative options.
June 18: Neptune begins its long annual retrograde in your networking and volunteering house, helping you reconnect with former business associates, hear from a past club connection, or reconsider your charitable activities and giving.
June 19 – 20: Mercury will align beautifully with Jupiter and then Neptune, connecting your communication, agreements, and humanitarian houses. Your desire to help and serve others may prompt you to craft a generous agreement to support a charitable initiative. Make time to meditate because these planets’ placements in tender water signs will help expand your mind and vision for how you can help through deep compassion.
June 21: The Sun leaves Gemini for Cancer, energizing your third house of communication, travel, and siblings. Celebrate this solstice day with an evening getaway, fun with siblings, or sending a romantic text or letter to your beloved suggesting dinner for two. Enjoy the next month’s nurturing, caring energies.
June 22: The Sun in your communication house connects well with Uranus, bringing new ideas for improving your health, polishing your image or personality, or starting a publicity campaign to showcase your genius or latest pet project.
June 23: Mercury in your research house challenges Pluto in your international connections house. If you want to expand your business internationally or schedule an overseas trip or assignment, wait to make your pitch to VIPs or contact foreign liaisons.
June 25: Venus will be out of sorts with Jupiter in your partnership area, so if you want to move or redecorate, hold off on approaching your partner. If you’re working on anything related to real estate, use this day to mull over terms and contracts before discussing them with your spouse, realtor, contractor, or inspector.
June 26: Mars will begin a two month retrograde in your career and public status house. Expect slowdowns at work and in any activities related to leadership or promotion, and if you want to take on a new role in your community or run for office, wait to announce or make major moves until after the retrograde. Consider taking a vacation during this time if you can get away.
June 27: A full Moon arrives in Capricorn in your international, education, and publicity house, and with Saturn joined with the Moon and the Sun involved in this alignment, too, this day may feel draining or demanding. See what peaks at this powerful full Moon but wait to take action because you will benefit from operating strategically.
June 28: Mercury leaves watery, emotional Cancer for fiery, passionate Leo. Let your mind turn to your home and family, indulge in creative pursuits at home, and call or visit a parent.
June 30: Mercury in Leo will bump up against Uranus in your first house of health and your body. A relative may criticize you or your personal style, or a family member’s ideas may clash with yours and create mental stress that affects physical health. Be kind to yourself and all concerned by stepping back to achieve better perspective.
As you can see, this month will bring shifting energies to help us all appreciate nature’s rhythms at the solstice and during Mars retrograde. May the wisdom of slowing down infuse your month.
