June Astrology – Headline News
Your Communication And Siblings
June opens with two planets in Gemini:
- The warm and powerful Sun, who always shines his light freely and generously to bring joy and optimism to our world
- Mercury, who governs thinking, communication, and commerce and brings playfulness and curiosity wherever he goes
Although Mercury leaves Gemini for Cancer on June 12, the Moon will link with the Sun in Gemini from June 15 through 17, lending her emotional sensitivity to prevailing energies before the Sun changes signs on June 21.
Gemini is an air sign symbolized by the Twins, two playful and mischievous siblings who love to learn and talk and be on the go. Sometimes they play tricks by switching places with each other, reminding us that things—and people—are not always what they seem. Finding the truth means going beyond mere data to understand the story behind the facts and using the mind to make order and sense out of a mountain of details. At its best, this lighthearted sign helps us stay youthful by inspiring us to remain curious, go new places, and learn something each day.

For you, Aries, planets in Gemini always activate your third house of communication, short trips, and brothers and sisters. The Gemini planets this month can help quicken your mind and refresh your thinking. They also can help you step back and analyze how you communicate with others, whether through writing and editing, speaking and presenting, or gestures and body language. These energies also may help you lighten up when it comes to relationships with siblings or inspire you to be out and about much more to explore places close to home or enjoy a short getaway.
Your Home And Family
On June 21, the Sun leaves Gemini for Cancer, which will start the month of the Crab. You’ll feel the energies shift from the airy, mental realm of Gemini to the emotional, imaginative world of Cancer. This change takes us into feelings and intuition, a good antidote to Gemini’s strongly intellectual approach to life.
For you, Aries, planets in Cancer increase your desire to stay at home because they pour energy into your fourth house of home, family, and heritage. This area also governs the physical house you occupy as well as land and other real estate you may own. As soon as the Sun enters Cancer, you may feel an urge to strengthen ties with your immediate family, call a parent, find a contractor to expand or renovate your home, or find a realtor who can help you locate a new home.
Solstice Arrives With A New Season
When the Sun enters the astrological sign of Cancer on June 21, we start a new season: summer in the northern hemisphere and winter in the southern. This day is called the solstice, one of two solstices we experience annually.
Solstice literally means “Sun stopped” or “Sun made to stand.” At the solstices, the Sun seems to stand still in the sky for about three days, when it reaches the limit of its movement either northward or southward. The Sun pauses and then gradually reverses course, starting a new six month cycle.
The June solstice ranks as one of the annual power days in our calendar, along with the December solstice and the equinoxes in March and September. The two equinoxes arrive on the days when the amount of daylight equals the amount of darkness, teaching us about balance and the blend of dark and light.
The solstices, however, bring us extremes because either the daylight or darkness prevails, dramatically so, and gives us either the longest or shortest day of the year. Solstices cap a six month story of light, during which the physical light that warms our lives and hearts reaches a turning point.
For those in the northern hemisphere, the June solstice brings the longest period of daylight, the climax of the Sun’s journey toward increasing light since the previous solstice. For those in the southern hemisphere, the opposite holds true, as June brings the shortest day and longest night and the climax of the Sun’s movement toward its least amount of light.
Regardless of where you live, the solstices and equinoxes offer excellent opportunities for meditation because nature’s quarterly changes mirror the inner, spiritual changes we experience throughout the year. Each of these four power days carries messages about the nature of light, both physical and spiritual, and rewards the time we devote to inner reflection.
In the case of the solstice, the apparent lack of motion concentrates the Sun’s energies, providing a powerful opportunity and focal point for spiritual work.
For you, Aries, the June solstice allows you to think about home, family, and ancestry and how they help you feel secure. It also may inspire you to investigate the deepest parts of your spirituality, which give your life its true security and foundation.
Time To Slow Down: Mars Goes Retrograde
Mars, your ruler, has been traveling through Aquarius since mid-May. This month, from our perspective on Earth, it will appear that Mars is slowing down and then stopping in his tracks on June 26, when this fiery planet goes retrograde.
Similar to Mercury retrograde, this phenomenon will coincide with a slowdown that gives us time to pause, reflect, and redo. Mars will continue its apparent backward motion for two months, until August 27. Most of that time will occur in Aquarius, with the last two weeks happening in Capricorn.
Mars goes retrograde the least often of our solar system’s planets, about every two years. Nevertheless, we feel these periods keenly because Mars is the planet of energy, drive, and new beginnings.
When retrograde, Mars’s usual vitality disappears. If you’re accustomed to constant activity, it can feel strange when everything around you stalls and forward progress becomes elusive.
Heed these signals and take the opportunity to slow down, as that’s just the tonic you will need at this time. Life will carry on, but you’ll be in the slow lane for a while, giving you a chance to review the past two years since the last Mars retrograde, which occurred from April 17 to June 29, 2016. This time also will help you evaluate what you’ve achieved, make peace with what didn’t work out, and plan adjustments to make after the retrograde lifts. In fact, Mars retrograde can be the perfect time for vacation or at least a staycation and increased leisure time.
Slowing down can help you improve health, create more balanced habits, and streamline your to do list. It also offers potential for exploring sexuality, desire, and how you go after what you want in relationships. In addition, this period favors meditation about your actions, especially how you apply your will and whether your intentions are honorable. Remember that Mars, the warrior, needs to spiritualize his actions to serve at the highest level and create the greatest good.
For you, Aries, Mars retrograde looms large because Mars is your ruling planet. Pay attention to your energy this month and notice how it changes as the retrograde draws near. Your drive to accomplishment may taper off, and you may find yourself desiring nothing so much as a break from the action.
With the retrograde occurring mostly in Aquarius, with a bit of Capricorn at the end, you likely will experience its decreased energies in your group activities related to memberships at clubs or associations, networking events, friendships, and volunteer participation as well as in your career, public reputation, and community leadership. Give yourself permission to ease up on outreach, take a break from certain friends if you wish, and plan a vacation or reduce your hours on the job. These steps will ensure you come back rested and ready for action when the retrograde lifts at the end of August.
Plan Your Month: Important Dates In June
This month brings several key dates to watch as you plan your month. Mark your calendar and take action (or rest) as recommended on the dates listed here so your efforts can bring progress in all areas.
June 1 and 2: Mercury in your communication house angles perfectly with Mars, your ruler, in your group activities house, so a business connection may tap you for an important writing project, or your ability to persuade may impress event planners at an industry association. Also, Venus in your home and family area will make the same perfect angle with Jupiter in your shared money house and with Neptune in your privacy sector. On the material plane, money may come your way through an insurance payout or inheritance, allowing you to redecorate or move to a larger home, and if you’re working on a health concern, rest and recuperation at home will supply the love you need to support better health. These three houses also govern spirituality and mystical insights, so you could have a deep spiritual revelation, decide to create a meditation area at home, or savor dreams of higher love made real.
June 5: Venus in your home and family area will face off against Pluto in your career house, suggesting challenges balancing work and family. Bosses and relatives may not be sympathetic, so wait to hold sensitive discussions. Instead, harness the Sun and Mercury, which will join together in Gemini and give you a silver tongue with everyone from clients and colleagues to sales prospects and even your siblings. You will have the power to talk yourself and others into—or out of—anything, so focus on the highest good for all and ease tensions by suggesting a fun outing, perhaps with siblings.
June 6: Both Mercury and the Sun in your communication house will challenge Neptune in your behind the scenes house. A secret project may lack clarity, and pushing harder to achieve it may muddle things further. Also, sensitive data may come out, pressing you to act quickly to address leaks.
June 10 – 13: The Moon enters its balsamic phase, the “dark of the Moon” time before the new Moon. Slow down and review the past month since the new Moon that arrived on May 15. Meditate, rest, and reflect on what you want to do in the coming month. Find out more about this mysterious monthly time in my Balsamic Moon Phase article. Also, this period is excellent for spiritual work, meditation, and prayer. See my article on How To Relieve Stress – Meditate At The Right Time for details.
June 12: Mercury leaves your sibling and communication house for your fourth house of home and family. You may explore your heritage by starting a genealogy project or make plans for renovations or a move. If relatives need your help, new and better solutions may emerge now.
June 13: A busy day, with a new Moon in Gemini lighting your sibling, travel, education, and communication house. The next two weeks bring your best time all year to start anything new related to communication of all kinds as well as plan or take short trips, connect with siblings and close cousins, and start new habits related to your mind and how you think. Also, Mercury, Gemini’s ruler, will align helpfully with Uranus, bringing brilliant potential to all plans related to home and family as well as your job and earnings. In addition, Venus will enter passionate Leo, bringing love and kindness to your house of children, romance, and creativity. Take youngsters on an arts outing or seize your own creative spark with a new project or tools. Enjoy romance with your partner, and if you’re not attached, dress up and circulate because you can attract a new admirer now.
June 14: Venus in your creative area tangles with Uranus in your money house, suggesting sudden financial developments causing you to streamline an arts project.
June 15: Mercury in your house of home faces off with Saturn in your career house, so you may need to rethink life balance or could hear word that work at home policies are changing. Wait to speak with your boss so you can strategize and consider long term goals.
June 18: Neptune begins its long annual retrograde in your privacy house, helping you reconnect with your spirituality and embrace needed solitude and healing.
June 19 – 20: Mercury will align beautifully with Jupiter and then Neptune, all in your mystical houses. Make time to meditate because these planets can expand your vision, enlarge your inner life, and renew your compassion.
June 21: The Sun leaves Gemini for Cancer, energizing your fourth house of home, family, and real estate. Celebrate this solstice day with a night at home with loved ones over a homemade meal or visualizing the renovations or new home you want. Enjoy the next month’s nurturing, caring energies.
June 22: The Sun in your home and family house connects well with Uranus, bringing new ideas for an at home business or prompting you to have heirlooms appraised with a top expert.
June 23: Mercury in your real estate house challenges Pluto in your community and public image house. If you need a variance for a renovation or rehab, wait to make your pitch to VIPs.
June 25: Venus will be out of sorts with Jupiter in your shared money area, so if you need venture capital for a creative project, hold off on approaching lenders. If you’re working on anything related to child custody or support, use this day to mull over your next move and avoid direct contact.
June 26: Your ruler, Mars, will begin a two month retrograde in your friendship, networking, and charity house. Expect slowdowns in all these areas, and if you want to join a club or association, wait to submit your application until after the retrograde. Consider taking a vacation during this time if you can get away.
June 27: A full Moon arrives in Capricorn in your career house, and with Saturn joined with the Moon this day may feel draining or demanding, either at home or work or both. Several other challenging alignments will occur as well, so see what peaks at this powerful full Moon but wait to take action because you will benefit from operating strategically.
June 28: Mercury leaves watery, emotional Cancer for fiery, passionate Leo. Let your mind turn to creative pursuits and indulge your inner child’s need for playfulness.
June 30: Mercury in Leo will bump up against Uranus in your second house of earned income. Ideas for advanced fertility treatments or a groundbreaking creative vision may need reworking to be practical or fit your budget. Be kind to yourself and all concerned by stepping back to achieve better perspective.
As you can see, this month will bring shifting energies to help us all appreciate nature’s rhythms at the solstice and during Mars retrograde. May the wisdom of slowing down infuse your month.
