May Astrology – Headline News
Your Education, Travel, And Cultural Contacts
As May begins, we have just one planet in Taurus, the warm and powerful Sun, who always shines his light freely and generously to bring joy and optimism to our world.
On May 13, Mercury, your ruler, will join the Sun in Taurus, followed by Uranus on May 15. These three will dominate Taurus until May 20, when the Sun changes signs.
Taurus is an earth sign symbolized by the Bull, a large and calm creature who is peacefully at home in nature until provoked or placed in unfamiliar or stressful surroundings. Then it shows its temper, becoming agitated or even aggressive and potentially dangerous. The Taurus Bull reminds us we need to take it easy at times, enjoy socializing, and spend time in nature. It also teaches how something new can create stress and how easily tempers can flare when people feel forced to change. For these reasons, Taurus inspires us to seek comfort, especially when under stress or going through a significant change so we can remain sweet-tempered.
Find out more about Taurus in my article, Taurus Time: Ground Yourself Even As The World Changes. Also, you can tune in to this sign’s calm contentment and deep loyalty with The Taurus Meditation, an uplifting guided meditation.
For you, Virgo, planets in Taurus always activate your ninth house of expansion through international people and travel, higher learning and philosophy, and publishing and promotion. The Taurus planets can help solidify your overseas connections or desire for a degree or post graduate study and make you more practical about how you manage international business, foreign contacts, and study. They also may inspire you to question your beliefs, explore faith, and create a personal philosophy of life because Taurus represents what we value and the ninth house helps us make meaning through the stories we tell and beliefs we hold.
Your Career, Recognition, And Leadership
On May 20, the Sun leaves Taurus for Gemini, which will start the month of the Twins. You’ll feel the energies shift away from the earthy, steady, loyal power of Taurus to the airy, playful, curious world of Gemini. This annual change brings a refreshing breeziness after Taurus and its tendency to stay home, sit still, and indulge its senses.
For you, Virgo, planets in Gemini revitalize your professional life because they put airy chattiness and a desire to be on the go into your tenth house of career, awards and other recognition, and leadership. This area also governs your public status and the legacy you could leave through the role you play in your career and community. As soon as the Sun enters Gemini, you may feel inspired to take a more active role by giving speeches, writing a book, or traveling as a spokesperson for your brand, company, or field.
Jupiter In Scorpio: Halfway Point Review
Since October 10, 2017, Jupiter has been traveling through Scorpio.
Jupiter spends 13 months in each sign, giving us a special annual theme to help focus our attention. So we’re about halfway through this cycle, making this month a perfect time to look back on how we’re doing with our current Jupiter assignment.
As the biggest planet in our solar system, Jupiter is associated with abundance, affluence, and even extravagance. Wherever Jupiter is located, we find expansion, protection, nobility, and leadership. Often, these benefits come through Jupiter’s favorite subjects: foreign people and places, overseas travel, higher education, philosophy, and large scale media (such as publishing). All these expand our horizons and our consciousness.
In Scorpio, Jupiter is taking us deep within to heal and regenerate (or release) whatever must change. It’s also helping us explore secrets, hidden passions, and spirituality as well as see the global problems that need compassion and fixing.
How well are you doing in these areas? What remains for you to explore and improve? Are you blocking abundance or joy by being stingy or judgmental?
For you, Virgo, this is a great time to improve any aspect of communication, from public speaking to creative writing, and to enjoy the blessings of siblings or a short getaway.

A New Era Arrives
After seven years in Aries, the Great Awakener, Uranus, moves into earthy Taurus on May 15.
This is a major change that signals a new era for all of us. Before May 15, be sure to look back at what’s happened in your life and the world since March 2011 to honor how far you’ve come since then. See your horoscope from last month in our horoscope archives for recommendations on how to put the Uranus in Aries era into perspective so you’ll be ready for the changes starting on May 15.
Uranus is associated with electricity, lightning, and wild weather as well as genius and brilliance that come as lightning flashes of inspiration. It also brings a powerfully disruptive or even rebellious energy designed to help us change—and fast—as well as free ourselves and others and let go of the past. It carries a knack for mechanics, aeronautics, and electronics as well as anything high tech, futuristic, or visionary, from outer space and psychic research to astrology, inventions, miracles, and discoveries.
This revolutionary planet may be somewhat uncomfortable in practical Taurus, which likes tradition and resists change because it wants security. For example, Taurus rules nearly everything related to money such as cash, checkbooks, banks and bankers, profits, borrowing and spending, securities and stocks, treasuries, and financiers.
Taurus also governs cattle, copper, jewelry, art, and possessions in general. In addition, it is associated with beauty, both artistic and personal through adornment, and our response to beauty, culture, and the arts. It’s especially fond of music, singing, and sculpture.
All these areas will be ripe for change under Uranus’s watch. At the same time, however, Taurus’s energies will help us ground Uranus’s lightning bolts of genius into workable plans and simplified systems that make life easier, more comfortable, and more beautiful. That steadying force will bring some relief after Uranus’s seven years in Aries, famous for its new beginnings, which brought us a dizzying pace of technological change, countless business startups, and constant change in personal identity for many people as they tried new images and careers over and over again.
For you, Virgo, having Uranus in Taurus will bring change related to a degree program or other education, contacts with foreign people or global visionaries, your perceptions and beliefs, and your faith and ethics because it affects your ninth house, which governs these areas. You may see sudden opportunities you’ll have to seize quickly, or you may have flashes of insight that help you move beyond old perspectives so you can get into better alignment with your spiritual nature and desire to help others.
For an in depth look at Uranus in Taurus and how it affects you (and how you can make the most of it), see my article, Uranus In Taurus. It includes a look back at the past seven years of Uranus in Aries as well as an explanation of how Uranus in Taurus is likely to manifest and details for every zodiac sign and how it will be affected by this major shift.
Plan Your Month: Important Dates In May
This month brings several key dates to watch as you plan your month. Mark your calendar and take action (or rest) as recommended on the dates listed here so your efforts can bring progress in all areas.
May 1: May Day, an ancient springtime celebration in the northern hemisphere and in modern times a day to honor labor and workers. Both themes harmonize with Taurus energies, so make the day festive for yourself in some way and give thanks for nature and its beauty.
May 2: The Sun in your international house makes a helpful link with Neptune in your marriage house, bringing new desires to travel with your partner. Share your most idealistic dreams with your love and consider a trip to a beautiful place that inspires meditations for years to come.
May 7: Your ruler, Mercury, in Aries challenges Pluto in your house of children, and Venus in your career house tangles with Neptune. Avoid discussing financial realities with children for the moment, as they’re likely to be headstrong or volatile, and control issues could surface. Also, home and career demands may pull you in different directions, so put off sensitive money talks with your marriage or business partner, too. Instead, use your mind to overcome stress and focus on digging for details before raising challenging subjects with others.
May 8: The Sun in your publicity area faces off against Jupiter in your communication house. Disagreements about what information you can announce to the public may come to a head, giving you clarity or a breakthrough even if news you prefer to keep private comes to light. If you’re in school, you may have words with a prof and realize you need to upgrade study habits.
May 11: The Sun in your expansion house nods kindly at Pluto in your arts house, giving you a chance to transform a body of work and bring it to a wider audience. This alignment also could earn you favor from VIPs in your field, international publicity, or financial gain from selling your work.
May 11 – 15: The Moon enters its balsamic phase, the “dark of the Moon” time before the new Moon. Slow down and review the past month since the new Moon that arrived on April 15. Meditate, rest, and reflect on what you want to do in the coming month. Find out more about this mysterious monthly time in my Balsamic Moon Phase article. Also, this period is excellent for spiritual work, meditation, and prayer. See my article on How To Relieve Stress – Meditate At The Right Time for details.
May 12: Mercury, your ruler, in your house of joint money makes a difficult alignment with Mars in your house of children. Talks with your ex about alimony or child support may rouse anger, and pressing your point will make matters worse. Bide your time so you can gather relevant facts before making your case or taking action.
May 13: Mercury dances with Uranus in Aries before heading into placid Taurus. You may have a dazzling insight about insurance coverage, a joint venture, or ways your partner can earn more income. This pair also could bring sudden news about a gift, commission, bonus, or inheritance. Expect the unexpected, then close your day with peaceful conversation over dinner as you enjoy comfort foods of your favorite international cuisine.
May 15: A big day, with a new Moon in Taurus. Also, Uranus moves into Taurus for the next seven years, and Mars changes signs, too, entering Aquarius and lighting up your job, health, and pets area. The next two weeks bring your best time all year to apply for a degree program, defend your dissertation, plan a trip to a country you’ve never seen, explore questions of faith and belief, or resolve visa or immigration concerns. With Uranus in this same area, travel, education, and philosophical changes are in store, and you can leverage them into opportunities if you allow intuition to guide you.
May 16: Mars in your health, job, and daily life management house challenges Uranus in your house of expansion and travel. Wait until later in the month to request time off for vacation, and if you need help on a medical matter, put off contacting a leading academic specialist until then as well.
May 18: Mercury in your expansion house makes a harmonious angle to Saturn in your creative house, bringing offers or news from VIPs in publishing, broadcasting, or international business who see you as a distinguished leader in your field. Someone may want you to show your work in a top online or international publication, or you may reach a long term agreement with a high flying agent or business representative.
May 19: Venus enters Cancer in your house of friends and group activities through clubs and mixers links helpfully to Uranus. An iconoclastic expert may enter your life, becoming a valuable addition to your network. Accept invitations to socialize and trust your intuition about whom to approach and cultivate.
May 20: The Sun leaves Taurus for Gemini, energizing your tenth house of career, leadership, and public status. Offer to give a speech, have lunch with a mentor, or meet with a community leader about hiring interns. Enjoy the next month’s breezy, chatty energies.
May 22: Mercury in your expansion house connects subtly with Neptune and faces off against Jupiter in your sibling area. You and your spouse may have idealistic beliefs about traveling with siblings, which may collide with reality. Wait to suggest a trip and put off conversations with travel agents or tour operators until you can gain clarity.
May 23: The Sun in your professional house waves enthusiastically to Mars in your fitness and work house. Your good health and high energy will allow you to triumph in a highly visible project, earning kudos form VIPs.
May 25: Jupiter and Neptune link with inspiration across the sky, highlighting spiritual and philosophical conversations with your partner. Also, Pluto in your house of children communicates clearly with your ruler, Mercury, in your higher education area, but Saturn, also in your children house, challenges Venus in your networking and clubs house. Self-empowering opportunities for a child to study abroad may require recommendations from people you associate with at business functions or a membership organization. Wait to ask for favors, as others may not be receptive now. Balance a child’s needs with your need to preserve harmonious relationships and heed your soul’s guidance to make it all work out.
May 29: Another busy day, as Mercury moves into Gemini, one of the signs it rules, in your career house. Expect many more chats at work with bosses and other VIPs, as your mind will be on fire with ideas for getting more recognition for your department or company through speaking or outreach. Also, the full Moon arrives in your home and family house, inspiring you to look at your home with fresh eyes and consider remodeling or redecorating with an international flair. If you’re already working on improvements or a real estate transaction, you may see a major development now. This day (and the day before and day after) favor spiritual work: plan time for meditation and prayer. See my article on How To Relieve Stress – Meditate At The Right Time for details.
