May Astrology – Headline News
Your Career And Public Recognition
As May begins, we have just one planet in Taurus, the warm and powerful Sun, your ruler, who always shines his light freely and generously to bring joy and optimism to our world.
On May 13, Mercury will join the Sun in Taurus, followed by Uranus on May 15. These three will dominate Taurus until May 20, when the Sun changes signs.
Taurus is an earth sign symbolized by the Bull, a large and calm creature who is peacefully at home in nature until provoked or placed in unfamiliar or stressful surroundings. Then it shows its temper, becoming agitated or even aggressive and potentially dangerous. The Taurus Bull reminds us we need to take it easy at times, enjoy socializing, and spend time in nature. It also teaches how something new can create stress and how easily tempers can flare when people feel forced to change. For these reasons, Taurus inspires us to seek comfort, especially when under stress or going through a significant change so we can remain sweet-tempered.
Find out more about Taurus in my article, Taurus Time: Ground Yourself Even As The World Changes. Also, you can tune in to this sign’s calm contentment and deep loyalty with The Taurus Meditation, an uplifting guided meditation.
For you, Leo, planets in Taurus always activate your tenth house of career and professional recognition as well as the leadership you provide as a mentor to employees or people in your industry. The Taurus planets can help solidify your professional status with practical steps to manage people better, apply for an honor or award, and meet regularly with those needing guidance. They also may inspire you to do your part for your community because Taurus loves comfort and security and sharing those gifts with others. You may meet with VIPs about running for office, beautify your company’s premises with fine art or exquisite landscaping, or support the arts and culture through an office service project or sponsoring a concert series held at your facility.
Your Friends, Network, And Charitable Activities
On May 20, the Sun, your ruler, leaves Taurus for Gemini, which will start the month of the Twins. You’ll feel the energies shift away from the earthy, steady, loyal power of Taurus to the airy, playful, curious world of Gemini. This annual change brings a refreshing breeziness after Taurus and its tendency to stay home, sit still, and indulge its senses.
For you, Leo, planets in Gemini revitalize your relationships because they put airy chattiness and a desire to be on the go into your eleventh house of networking, friendship, clubs, and professional associations and memberships. This area also governs volunteering and your desire to help improve the world. As soon as the Sun enters Gemini, you may feel inspired to serve on a nonprofit board, organize a fundraiser for your favorite cause, ramp up your networking activities, and make plans with friends that could include participation in your fundraiser.
Jupiter In Scorpio: Halfway Point Review
Since October 10, 2017, Jupiter has been traveling through Scorpio.
Jupiter spends 13 months in each sign, giving us a special annual theme to help focus our attention. So we’re about halfway through this cycle, making this month a perfect time to look back on how we’re doing with our current Jupiter assignment.
As the biggest planet in our solar system, Jupiter is associated with abundance, affluence, and even extravagance. Wherever Jupiter is located, we find expansion, protection, nobility, and leadership. Often, these benefits come through Jupiter’s favorite subjects: foreign people and places, overseas travel, higher education, philosophy, and large scale media (such as publishing). All these expand our horizons and our consciousness.
In Scorpio, Jupiter is taking us deep within to heal and regenerate (or release) whatever must change. It’s also helping us explore secrets, hidden passions, and spirituality as well as see the global problems that need compassion and fixing.
How well are you doing in these areas? What remains for you to explore and improve? Are you blocking abundance or joy by being stingy or judgmental?
For you, Leo, this is a great time to concentrate on real estate, home ownership or improvement, and your relationships with your parents.

A New Era Arrives
After seven years in Aries, the Great Awakener, Uranus, moves into earthy Taurus on May 15.
This is a major change that signals a new era for all of us. Before May 15, be sure to look back at what’s happened in your life and the world since March 2011 to honor how far you’ve come since then. See your horoscope from last month in our horoscope archives for recommendations on how to put the Uranus in Aries era into perspective so you’ll be ready for the changes starting on May 15.
Uranus is associated with electricity, lightning, and wild weather as well as genius and brilliance that come as lightning flashes of inspiration. It also brings a powerfully disruptive or even rebellious energy designed to help us change—and fast—as well as free ourselves and others and let go of the past. It carries a knack for mechanics, aeronautics, and electronics as well as anything high tech, futuristic, or visionary, from outer space and psychic research to astrology, inventions, miracles, and discoveries.
This revolutionary planet may be somewhat uncomfortable in practical Taurus, which likes tradition and resists change because it wants security. For example, Taurus rules nearly everything related to money such as cash, checkbooks, banks and bankers, profits, borrowing and spending, securities and stocks, treasuries, and financiers.
Taurus also governs cattle, copper, jewelry, art, and possessions in general. In addition, it is associated with beauty, both artistic and personal through adornment, and our response to beauty, culture, and the arts. It’s especially fond of music, singing, and sculpture.
All these areas will be ripe for change under Uranus’s watch. At the same time, however, Taurus’s energies will help us ground Uranus’s lightning bolts of genius into workable plans and simplified systems that make life easier, more comfortable, and more beautiful. That steadying force will bring some relief after Uranus’s seven years in Aries, famous for its new beginnings, which brought us a dizzying pace of technological change, countless business startups, and constant change in personal identity for many people as they tried new images and careers over and over again.
For you, Leo, having Uranus in Taurus will bring change related to your career, leadership, and public recognition because it affects your tenth house, which governs these areas. You may see sudden opportunities you’ll have to seize quickly, or you may have flashes of insight that help you move beyond old perspectives so you can get into better alignment with your spiritual nature and desire to help others.
For an in depth look at Uranus in Taurus and how it affects you (and how you can make the most of it), see my article, Uranus In Taurus. It includes a look back at the past seven years of Uranus in Aries as well as an explanation of how Uranus in Taurus is likely to manifest and details for every zodiac sign and how it will be affected by this major shift.
Plan Your Month: Important Dates In May
This month brings several key dates to watch as you plan your month. Mark your calendar and take action (or rest) as recommended on the dates listed here so your efforts can bring progress in all areas.
May 1: May Day, an ancient springtime celebration in the northern hemisphere and in modern times a day to honor labor and workers. Both themes harmonize with Taurus energies, so make the day festive for yourself in some way and give thanks for nature and its beauty.
May 2: Your ruler, the Sun, in your career house makes a helpful link with Neptune in your joint finances and deep soul connections house, bringing spiritual insights about your material life. Meditate on how your career contributes to the financial stability you share with your partner and family and how both can align harmoniously with your inner life.
May 7: Mercury in Aries challenges Pluto in your work house, and Venus in your networking house tangles with Neptune. Exercise care in all communications, as bosses may be out of sorts about a publicity or import-export project and a friend or person you know from a club or industry association may be fuzzy on details about a joint venture or loan. Put off decisions and discussions and keep a low profile around VIPs; instead, move forward on your own to perfect projects and clarify details.
May 8: The Sun in your professional area faces off against Jupiter in your home and family house. You may have to manage conflicting demands, as a remodeling project or parent’s situation may require your help at the same time that a career matter demands your presence and full attention. Needed balance between work and home may come to a head, giving you clarity or a breakthrough, and you may learn vital data about real estate or a professional matter.
May 11: The Sun in your career house nods kindly at Pluto in your job house, giving you a chance to shine professionally by leading a high power project or team. This alignment also could bring favor from influential people and potential perks or other gains through a promotion or raise.
May 11 – 15: The Moon enters its balsamic phase, the “dark of the Moon” time before the new Moon. Slow down and review the past month since the new Moon that arrived on April 15. Meditate, rest, and reflect on what you want to do in the coming month. Find out more about this mysterious monthly time in my Balsamic Moon Phase article. Also, this period is excellent for spiritual work, meditation, and prayer. See my article on How To Relieve Stress – Meditate At The Right Time for details.
May 12: Mercury in your house of international travel makes a difficult alignment with Mars in your job house. If you need to travel overseas on business, renew your passport, or resolve a visa concern, you may encounter an aggressive or arrogant person. Avoid anger and arguments because others will bristle if pushed. If possible, put off important business, avoid unnecessary interactions, and pour your energy into finishing routine tasks.
May 13: Mercury dances with Uranus in Aries before heading into placid Taurus. You may have a dazzling insight about how to garner international publicity for your company or product or get word from a publisher who heard about your genius idea and wants you to write a book or article. Close your day with pleasant conversation or a walk in nature to settle your mind and process the day’s happenings.
May 15: A big day, with a new Moon in Taurus. Also, Uranus moves into Taurus for the next seven years, and Mars changes signs, too, entering Aquarius and lighting up your marriage, partnership, and agreements area. The next two weeks bring your best time all year to launch a career initiative, apply for an industry award or honor, announce your intention to run for office, or start a mentoring or leadership program. With Uranus in this same area, professional changes are in store, and you can leverage them into opportunities if you allow intuition to guide you.
May 16: Mars in your partnership house challenges Uranus in your career house. Wait until later in the month to broach discussions with your partner about a potential career change or possible promotion requiring a move and put off negotiations with business advisors, agents, and other partners until then as well.
May 18: Mercury in your career house makes a harmonious angle to Saturn in your work house, bringing good news about your professional future or a good word from a boss or senior colleague. Your steady way with words will inspire trust, and a VIP may ask you to take a leadership role or recommend you for promotion. You also will find it easier to balance health and fitness with work demands and to be more practical about nutrition and other self-care.
May 19: Venus enters Cancer in your house of secret projects and links helpfully to Uranus. If you need to work on something behind the scenes, listen to your hunches because they can help you create something that nets you a reputation as a visionary.
May 20: The Sun, your ruler, leaves Taurus for Gemini, energizing your eleventh house of networking, friendship, and volunteer activities. Accept all invitations to business mixers and industry events, contact friends to make social plans, and sign up to help on a charitable project. Enjoy the next month’s breezy, chatty energies.
May 22: Mercury in your career house connects subtly with Neptune and faces off against Jupiter in your home and family area. Inspired ideas to enhance public status may collide with material reality, forcing you to be more realistic and balance work and home. Watch your temper, be patient with loved ones, and give yourself time before acting on what you learn.
May 23: The Sun in your friendship and fundraising house waves enthusiastically to Mars in your marriage and partnership house. Introduce a single friend to your eligible business partner or bring your spouse to a charitable event.
May 25: Jupiter and Neptune link with inspiration across the sky, spotlighting spirituality and the deep mysteries of your soul. Also, Pluto in your work house communicates clearly with Mercury in your professional area, but Saturn, also in your work area, challenges Venus in your privacy house. Career stability and spiritual inspiration can support life balance and well being. Draw on these blessings to overcome challenges on a project you must keep under wraps or a health concern that may require time and patience to resolve.
May 29: Another busy day, as Mercury moves into Gemini, one of the signs it rules, in your house of friendship, associates, and clubs. Expect many more chats with your friends, and your mind will be on fire with ideas for making new connections through networking and memberships. Also, the full Moon arrives in your creativity and children house, inspiring you to start a family (or seek help to do so through fertility experts), take up a new sport or hobby, or begin your artistic masterpiece. You may see a major development now in any of these areas. This day (and the day before and day after) favor spiritual work: plan time for meditation and prayer. See my article on How To Relieve Stress – Meditate At The Right Time for details.
