May Astrology – Headline News
Your Friends, Networking, And Volunteer Activities
As May begins, we have just one planet in Taurus, the warm and powerful Sun, who always shines his light freely and generously to bring joy and optimism to our world.
On May 13, Mercury will join the Sun in Taurus, followed by Uranus on May 15. These three will dominate Taurus until May 20, when the Sun changes signs.
Taurus is an earth sign symbolized by the Bull, a large and calm creature who is peacefully at home in nature until provoked or placed in unfamiliar or stressful surroundings. Then it shows its temper, becoming agitated or even aggressive and potentially dangerous. The Taurus Bull reminds us we need to take it easy at times, enjoy socializing, and spend time in nature. It also teaches how something new can create stress and how easily tempers can flare when people feel forced to change. For these reasons, Taurus inspires us to seek comfort, especially when under stress or going through a significant change so we can remain sweet-tempered.
Find out more about Taurus in my article, Taurus Time: Ground Yourself Even As The World Changes. Also, you can tune in to this sign’s calm contentment and deep loyalty with The Taurus Meditation, an uplifting guided meditation.
For you, Cancer, planets in Taurus always activate your eleventh house of friendship, networking, club memberships, group activities, and charitable participation and giving. The Taurus planets can help solidify your business and social network and make you more practical about how you follow up with new contacts and leverage them for mutual benefit. They also may inspire you to spend more time with friends, perhaps by volunteering together for a cause or working jointly on a fundraiser.
Your Spiritual Life, Health, And Dreams
On May 20, the Sun leaves Taurus for Gemini, which will start the month of the Twins. You’ll feel the energies shift away from the earthy, steady, loyal power of Taurus to the airy, playful, curious world of Gemini. This annual change brings a refreshing breeziness after Taurus and its tendency to stay home, sit still, and indulge its senses.
For you, Cancer, planets in Gemini revitalize your spiritual life because they put airy chattiness and a desire to be on the go into your twelfth house of reflection and solitude, making it perfect time for walking meditations, traveling to a retreat center for a class, or starting a soul journal. This area also governs health and dreams and how you connect them for better well being. As soon as the Sun enters Gemini, you may feel inspired to go within more regularly for guidance or call a travel agent to book a trip to a secluded spot where you can recharge and think your own thoughts.
Jupiter In Scorpio: Halfway Point Review
Since October 10, 2017, Jupiter has been traveling through Scorpio.
Jupiter spends 13 months in each sign, giving us a special annual theme to help focus our attention. So we’re about halfway through this cycle, making this month a perfect time to look back on how we’re doing with our current Jupiter assignment.
As the biggest planet in our solar system, Jupiter is associated with abundance, affluence, and even extravagance. Wherever Jupiter is located, we find expansion, protection, nobility, and leadership. Often, these benefits come through Jupiter’s favorite subjects: foreign people and places, overseas travel, higher education, philosophy, and large scale media (such as publishing). All these expand our horizons and our consciousness.
In Scorpio, Jupiter is taking us deep within to heal and regenerate (or release) whatever must change. It’s also helping us explore secrets, hidden passions, and spirituality as well as see the global problems that need compassion and fixing.
How well are you doing in these areas? What remains for you to explore and improve? Are you blocking abundance or joy by being stingy or judgmental?
For you, Cancer, this is a great time to reflect on your children (or your desire to conceive), seek higher education or study abroad opportunities for your youngsters, or expand your own creative life in a compelling direction that draws on your soul’s wisdom.

A New Era Arrives
After seven years in Aries, the Great Awakener, Uranus, moves into earthy Taurus on May 15.
This is a major change that signals a new era for all of us. Before May 15, be sure to look back at what’s happened in your life and the world since March 2011 to honor how far you’ve come since then. See your horoscope from last month in our horoscope archives for recommendations on how to put the Uranus in Aries era into perspective so you’ll be ready for the changes starting on May 15.
Uranus is associated with electricity, lightning, and wild weather as well as genius and brilliance that come as lightning flashes of inspiration. It also brings a powerfully disruptive or even rebellious energy designed to help us change—and fast—as well as free ourselves and others and let go of the past. It carries a knack for mechanics, aeronautics, and electronics as well as anything high tech, futuristic, or visionary, from outer space and psychic research to astrology, inventions, miracles, and discoveries.
This revolutionary planet may be somewhat uncomfortable in practical Taurus, which likes tradition and resists change because it wants security. For example, Taurus rules nearly everything related to money such as cash, checkbooks, banks and bankers, profits, borrowing and spending, securities and stocks, treasuries, and financiers.
Taurus also governs cattle, copper, jewelry, art, and possessions in general. In addition, it is associated with beauty, both artistic and personal through adornment, and our response to beauty, culture, and the arts. It’s especially fond of music, singing, and sculpture.
All these areas will be ripe for change under Uranus’s watch. At the same time, however, Taurus’s energies will help us ground Uranus’s lightning bolts of genius into workable plans and simplified systems that make life easier, more comfortable, and more beautiful. That steadying force will bring some relief after Uranus’s seven years in Aries, famous for its new beginnings, which brought us a dizzying pace of technological change, countless business startups, and constant change in personal identity for many people as they tried new images and careers over and over again.
For you, Cancer, having Uranus in Taurus will bring change related to friends, networking and business associates, club and professional memberships, and charitable impulses because it affects your eleventh house, which governs these areas. You may see sudden opportunities you’ll have to seize quickly, or you may have flashes of insight that help you move beyond old perspectives so you can get into better alignment with your spiritual nature and desire to help others.
For an in depth look at Uranus in Taurus and how it affects you (and how you can make the most of it), see my article, Uranus In Taurus. It includes a look back at the past seven years of Uranus in Aries as well as an explanation of how Uranus in Taurus is likely to manifest and details for every zodiac sign and how it will be affected by this major shift.
Plan Your Month: Important Dates In May
This month brings several key dates to watch as you plan your month. Mark your calendar and take action (or rest) as recommended on the dates listed here so your efforts can bring progress in all areas.
May 1: May Day, an ancient springtime celebration in the northern hemisphere and in modern times a day to honor labor and workers. Both themes harmonize with Taurus energies, so make the day festive for yourself in some way and give thanks for nature and its beauty.
May 2: The Sun in your networking house makes a helpful link with Neptune in your higher education house, bringing dreamlike insights from an academic connection or an invitation to an international arts fundraiser. Heed hunches about making new contacts, especially related to overseas transactions or exchanges.
May 7: Mercury in Aries challenges Pluto in your marriage house, and Venus in your spiritual house tangles with Neptune. Your spouse may object to your need to work late or travel, or your agent may disagree strongly with career decisions. Wait to hold delicate negotiations, as others will not be receptive Instead, create balance where you can, be sensitive to power struggles without engaging, and focus on completing your most urgent tasks.
May 8: The Sun in your friendship house faces off against Jupiter in your children and creativity house. Your need to balance children’s needs with your desire to maintain personal friendships may come to a head, giving you clarity or a breakthrough. Also, you may face challenges with a venue where you hope to showcase your latest creative project, so wait to make final plans.
May 11: The Sun in your charitable house nods kindly at Pluto in your marriage house, giving you a chance to combine home with humanitarianism, perhaps by inviting your spouse to join you at a fundraiser or working together to plan an endowment at your alma mater.
May 11 – 15: The Moon, your ruler, enters its balsamic phase, the “dark of the Moon” time before the new Moon. Slow down and review the past month since the new Moon that arrived on April 15. Meditate, rest, and reflect on what you want to do in the coming month. Find out more about this mysterious monthly time in my Balsamic Moon Phase article. Also, this period is excellent for spiritual work, meditation, and prayer. See my article on How To Relieve Stress – Meditate At The Right Time for details.
May 12: Mercury in your professional house makes a difficult alignment with Mars in your agreements house. If you’re negotiating with a new business advisor, agent, or other representative, sparks could fly. Put off discussions, and if developments raise aggression or anger, do your best to defuse the situation as you pay close attention to body language and reading between the lines so you’re prepared to resume talks later.
May 13: Mercury dances with Uranus in Aries before heading into placid Taurus. You may have a dazzling insight about your career, make a visionary speech about technology or philanthropy, or receive an unexpected award or promotion. Close your exciting day with a calming activity such as a loving conversation with a friend or visit to an arts venue.
May 15: A big day, with a new Moon in Taurus. Also, Uranus moves into Taurus for the next seven years, and Mars changes signs, too, entering Aquarius and lighting up your joint financial area. The next two weeks bring your best time all year to rekindle friendships or make new friends, join a club or industry group, network, or align with a charity. With Uranus in this same area, relationship and philanthropic changes are in store, and you can leverage them into opportunities if you allow intuition to guide you.
May 16: Mars in your joint money house challenges Uranus in your house of networking and friends. Wait until later in the month to raise new joint venture ideas with business associates, think twice before investing in a friend’s business, and delay charitable contributions or club applications until then as well.
May 18: Mercury in your humanitarian house makes a harmonious angle to Saturn in your marriage house, putting you and your partner on the same page when it comes to changing the world. Your spouse may suggest stepping up as a couple to manage a fundraising campaign together, or you may seek nonprofit board membership or discuss creating a trust or endowing a scholarship.
May 19: Venus enters Cancer in your house of personality and health and links helpfully to Uranus. Friends can help you get in shape with group workouts at a beautiful spa or favorite yoga class, or a business associate may admire your ability to mix easily with others and tap you for leadership on an industry committee or charitable project.
May 20: The Sun leaves Taurus for Gemini, energizing your twelfth house of the subconscious, dreams, solitude, and health. Get extra rest and make time for meditation and reflection so you can benefit from insights and vivid dreams. Enjoy the next month’s breezy, chatty energies and soul messages you may receive through your sixth sense or hunches.
May 22: Mercury in your networking house connects subtly with Neptune and faces off against Jupiter in your creativity and children area. Grand ideas for a child’s educational enrichment or an arts initiative may collide with a nonprofit organization’s guidelines or fiscal reality. Take your time in committing to a child’s extracurricular activity or your own creative work that concerns outside organizations and wait for clarity before putting anything in writing or spending money.
May 23: The Sun in your spirituality house waves enthusiastically to Mars in your house of the soul. Take action on urges to deepen your spiritual practice, explore life after death and other mysteries, and heed inner guidance from dreams and hunches.
May 25: Jupiter and Neptune link with inspiration across the sky, highlighting international, education, and creative activities. Also, Pluto in your marriage house communicates clearly with Mercury in your networking area, but Saturn, also in your marriage house, challenges Venus in your personality house. You and your partner may disagree on spending related to your desire for a more sophisticated wardrobe and personal style. Feel your way through questioning your beliefs on the subject and use your famous imagination to visualize what you want and uncover ways to get it. Also, balance your own needs with your partner’s wishes.
May 29: Another busy day, as Mercury moves into Gemini, one of the signs it rules, in your house of solitude and healing. You may communicate much more with health professionals, or you may feel a much greater desire for alone time to write, think, and enjoy new ideas and messages from dreams or intuition. Also, your ruler, the Moon, becomes full in your fitness and work house, inspiring you to begin working out or eating more sensibly so you can feel strong on the job. If you’re working on a health concern, you may see a major development now. This day (and the day before and day after) favor spiritual work: plan time for meditation and prayer.
