May Astrology – Headline News
Your Siblings, Communication, And Travel
As May begins, we have just one planet in Taurus, the warm and powerful Sun, who always shines his light freely and generously to bring joy and optimism to our world.
On May 13, Mercury will join the Sun in Taurus, followed by Uranus on May 15. These three will dominate Taurus until May 20, when the Sun changes signs.
Taurus is an earth sign symbolized by the Bull, a large and calm creature who is peacefully at home in nature until provoked or placed in unfamiliar or stressful surroundings. Then it shows its temper, becoming agitated or even aggressive and potentially dangerous. The Taurus Bull reminds us we need to take it easy at times, enjoy socializing, and spend time in nature. It also teaches how something new can create stress and how easily tempers can flare when people feel forced to change. For these reasons, Taurus inspires us to seek comfort, especially when under stress or going through a significant change so we can remain sweet-tempered.
Find out more about Taurus in my article, Taurus Time: Ground Yourself Even As The World Changes. Also, you can tune in to this sign’s calm contentment and deep loyalty with The Taurus Meditation, an uplifting guided meditation.
For you, Pisces, planets in Taurus always activate your third house of brothers and sisters, short trips and other quick travel, and communication of all kinds. The Taurus planets can help solidify your relationships with siblings and make you more practical about how you communicate through writing, speaking, movement, and gestures. They also may inspire you to take trip to see a nearby art museum or a beautiful park or other natural setting because Taurus loves art, beauty, and the peacefulness we obtain through time in nature.
Your Home, Family, And Real Estate
On May 20, the Sun leaves Taurus for Gemini, which will start the month of the Twins. You’ll feel the energies shift away from the earthy, steady, loyal power of Taurus to the airy, playful, curious world of Gemini. This annual change brings a refreshing breeziness after Taurus and its tendency to stay home, sit still, and indulge its senses.
For you, Pisces, planets in Gemini revitalize your home life because they put airy chattiness and a desire to be on the go into your fourth house of family and real estate. This area also governs your spiritual foundation. As soon as the Sun enters Gemini, you may feel inspired to move, buy or sell a home, call a parent, help a close relative, invite a student to live with you temporarily, or learn about new spiritual practices to enhance your inner life.
Jupiter In Scorpio: Halfway Point Review
Since October 10, 2017, Jupiter has been traveling through Scorpio.
Jupiter spends 13 months in each sign, giving us a special annual theme to help focus our attention. So we’re about halfway through this cycle, making this month a perfect time to look back on how we’re doing with our current Jupiter assignment.
As the biggest planet in our solar system, Jupiter is associated with abundance, affluence, and even extravagance. Wherever Jupiter is located, we find expansion, protection, nobility, and leadership. Often, these benefits come through Jupiter’s favorite subjects: foreign people and places, overseas travel, higher education, philosophy, and large scale media (such as publishing). All these expand our horizons and our consciousness.
In Scorpio, Jupiter is taking us deep within to heal and regenerate (or release) whatever must change. It’s also helping us explore secrets, hidden passions, and spirituality as well as see the global problems that need compassion and fixing.
How well are you doing in these areas? What remains for you to explore and improve? Are you blocking abundance or joy by being stingy or judgmental?
For you, Pisces, this is a great time to travel, especially internationally, start a degree program, or deepen your philosophy of life.

A New Era Arrives
After seven years in Aries, the Great Awakener, Uranus, moves into earthy Taurus on May 15.
This is a major change that signals a new era for all of us. Before May 15, be sure to look back at what’s happened in your life and the world since March 2011 to honor how far you’ve come since then. See your horoscope from last month in our horoscope archives for recommendations on how to put the Uranus in Aries era into perspective so you’ll be ready for the changes starting on May 15.
Uranus is associated with electricity, lightning, and wild weather as well as genius and brilliance that come as lightning flashes of inspiration. It also brings a powerfully disruptive or even rebellious energy designed to help us change—and fast—as well as free ourselves and others and let go of the past. It carries a knack for mechanics, aeronautics, and electronics as well as anything high tech, futuristic, or visionary, from outer space and psychic research to astrology, inventions, miracles, and discoveries.
This revolutionary planet may be somewhat uncomfortable in practical Taurus, which likes tradition and resists change because it wants security. For example, Taurus rules nearly everything related to money such as cash, checkbooks, banks and bankers, profits, borrowing and spending, securities and stocks, treasuries, and financiers.
Taurus also governs cattle, copper, jewelry, art, and possessions in general. In addition, it is associated with beauty, both artistic and personal through adornment, and our response to beauty, culture, and the arts. It’s especially fond of music, singing, and sculpture.
All these areas will be ripe for change under Uranus’s watch. At the same time, however, Taurus’s energies will help us ground Uranus’s lightning bolts of genius into workable plans and simplified systems that make life easier, more comfortable, and more beautiful. That steadying force will bring some relief after Uranus’s seven years in Aries, famous for its new beginnings, which brought us a dizzying pace of technological change, countless business startups, and constant change in personal identity for many people as they tried new images and careers over and over again.
For you, Pisces, having Uranus in Taurus will bring change related to brothers and sisters, communication, and travel because it affects your third house, which governs these areas. You may see sudden opportunities you’ll have to seize quickly, or you may have flashes of insight that help you move beyond old perspectives so you can get into better alignment with your spiritual nature and desire to help others.
For an in depth look at Uranus in Taurus and how it affects you (and how you can make the most of it), see my article, Uranus In Taurus. It includes a look back at the past seven years of Uranus in Aries as well as an explanation of how Uranus in Taurus is likely to manifest and details for every zodiac sign and how it will be affected by this major shift.
Plan Your Month: Important Dates In May
This month brings several key dates to watch as you plan your month. Mark your calendar and take action (or rest) as recommended on the dates listed here so your efforts can bring progress in all areas.
May 1: May Day, an ancient springtime celebration in the northern hemisphere and in modern times a day to honor labor and workers. Both themes harmonize with Taurus energies, so make the day festive for yourself in some way and give thanks for nature and its beauty.
May 2: The Sun in your communication house makes a helpful link with your ruler, Neptune, in your personality house, bringing otherworldly insights to anything you write or say. Meditate on how your compassion supports your ability to communicate beautifully to serve your spiritual mission in this incarnation.
May 7: Mercury in Aries challenges Pluto in your networking house, and Venus in your home and family house tangles with Neptune. Watch your words at a business mixer or board meeting, especially with VIPs, as emotions may be high and hasty words could affect your job and income. Information may be missing, or a family concern may impair your ability to communicate clearly. Put off sensitive meetings and wait to speak with bosses as you work solo on your projects.
May 8: The Sun faces off against Jupiter, and both occupy travel houses. Concerns about a trip or international opportunity or connection may come to a head, affecting plans for a journey. You may learn vital details that lead to a breakthrough and better choices and logistics.
May 11: The Sun in your communication house nods kindly at Pluto in your networking and philanthropic house, giving you a chance to impress leaders at a club or association or make progress with powerful connections for a nonprofit initiative or fundraising idea. This alignment also could bring favor from arts mavens who value your way with words and want to support your ideas.
May 11 – 15: The Moon enters its balsamic phase, the “dark of the Moon” time before the new Moon. Slow down and review the past month since the new Moon that arrived on April 15. Meditate, rest, and reflect on what you want to do in the coming month. Find out more about this mysterious monthly time in my Balsamic Moon Phase article. Also, this period is excellent for spiritual work, meditation, and prayer. See my article on How To Relieve Stress – Meditate At The Right Time for details.
May 12: Mercury in your money house makes a difficult alignment with Mars in your business associates house. An aggressive contact may push your buttons or overpromise regarding a possible job or business lead. Watch your temper and your tongue, as others will resist forceful communications. Table important discussions and direct your energies toward work, a job search, or ideas for streamlining your budget.
May 13: Mercury dances with Uranus in Aries before heading into placid Taurus. You may hear good news about a promotion or new job or win kudos for your innovation that brings your company a competitive advantage. Close your day with loving conversation with a sibling or a walking meditation in nature to settle your thoughts.
May 15: A big day, with a new Moon in Taurus. Also, Uranus moves into Taurus for the next seven years, and Mars changes signs, too, entering Aquarius and lighting up your most private area governing health, behind the scenes projects, psychology, and dreams. The next two weeks bring your best time all year to start something new with brothers and sisters, improve your communication, begin a publicity campaign, or take a short trip for business or pleasure. With Uranus in this same area, changes are in store related to siblings, communication, and travel, and you can leverage them into opportunities if you allow intuition to guide you.
May 16: Mars in your privacy house challenges Uranus in your sibling house, so anger or a hasty decision you prefer to keep quiet may come out, or your efforts to help a brother or sister confidentially may hit snags. Wait until later in the month to move ahead on projects related to siblings and put off launching or publicizing a project you’ve been keeping under wraps until then as well.
May 18: Mercury in your communication house makes a harmonious angle to Saturn in your business associates and charities house, bringing favor from VIPs in your industry, a club or association, or a nonprofit board. Someone may ask you to step into a leadership role, or you may hear your membership application has been accepted for a venerable club or top networking group.
May 19: Venus enters Cancer in your house of children, romance, and creativity and links helpfully to Uranus. A child may surprise you with brilliant ideas or win a scholarship or other award for a research or debate project. If you work in the arts, your creativity can soar to avant garde heights, and you’ll feel in perfect sync with your quirky muse.
May 20: The Sun leaves Taurus for Gemini, energizing your fourth house of home, family, heritage, and spiritual foundations. Consider a move, take steps to buy or sell property, talk more with family members and agree on a decorating or remodeling plan, or revitalize your spiritual practice. Enjoy the next month’s breezy, chatty energies.
May 22: Mercury in your short trips and communication house connects subtly with Neptune, your ruler, and faces off against Jupiter in your publicity and long distance travel area. Idealism about getting out of town, especially to somewhere secluded but expensive, may collide with fiscal reality or a health concern. Get more details before committing to a travel itinerary, and if you need to take a trip for business, wait to gain clarity with overseas contacts or publicists before signing off on any arrangements or announcing your plans.
May 23: The Sun in your home and family house waves enthusiastically to Mars in your privacy house. Behind the scenes help for a relative can move forward, so take action and communicate with those involved. These houses also relate to health, so if you’re working on something related to your well being, you can make excellent progress and get help from family to recover at home or in a rehab facility if needed.
May 25: Jupiter and Neptune link with inspiration across the sky, highlighting your idealism and compassionate personality or bringing international notice for your art. Also, Pluto in your business associates house speaks clearly with Mercury in your communication area, but Saturn, also in your associates area, challenges Venus in your creativity and children house. Balance a child’s needs with your requirement to support a nonprofit organization or attend a trade show. Heed your soul’s guidance to make it all work out.
May 29: Another busy day, as Mercury moves into Gemini, one of the signs it rules, in your home and family house. Expect many more chats with relatives, including parents. Your mind will fill with ideas for real estate deals, a decorating plan, or ways to fix up your basement. Also, the full Moon arrives in your career house, bringing potential professional breakthroughs. If you’re working on a key initiative at work or are up for a promotion or new job, you may see a major development now. This day (and the day before and day after) favor spiritual work: plan time for meditation and prayer. See my article on How To Relieve Stress – Meditate At The Right Time for details.
