April will usher in formidable forces with high potential for innovation and bold initiatives. It also presents its share of challenging energies, however, thanks to some key planetary alignments and shifts.
Although we have the energies of a new season and the new spiritual year favoring a fresh start, this month will require us to wait on launching anything so we can revisit the past first.

April Astrology – Headline News
Your Health And Spiritual Life
As April begins, we have three planets in Aries:
- The warm and powerful Sun, who always shines his light freely and generously to bring joy and optimism to our world
- Mercury, who governs thinking, communication, and commerce and brings playfulness and curiosity wherever he goes
- Uranus, who governs inspiration, technology, and electricity and brings sudden change, freedom, and a quirky quality to our lives
We also will have a fourth factor in Aries, the asteroid called Chiron, who is associated with where we feel wounded and how we heal and then help others based on our experiences. Chiron has moved through Pisces since February 8, 2011, and leaves that sign for Aries on April 17. Chiron remains there for seven years, giving all of us plenty of time to reckon with Aries and adjust how we use its power so we’re applying that force constructively.
Aries is a fire sign symbolized by the Ram, a competitive, hard charging creature who leads with his horns, rushing head first into life and ever ready to do battle. Aries drives us forward, pushing us to focus on ourselves, our energy, and our goals. This high power sign allows us to overcome inertia so we can get moving, start anything we desire (and start over at any time), and rush out in front of others in order to lead. It also inspires us to serve as spiritual warriors who inspire by setting a noble example, using leadership for constructive purposes, and channeling resources toward worthwhile goals.
Find out more about Aries in my article, Aries Time: Face Who You Really Are. Also, you can tune in to this sign’s bold, take charge energies with The Aries Meditation, an uplifting, guided meditation.
For you, Taurus, planets in Aries always activate your twelfth house of spirituality, solitude, health (especially psychological), and secret projects you work on anonymously or behind the scenes. All the Aries planets will intensify your desire for time alone (perhaps to work on something you’re not ready to launch), your wish to attend to health, and your devotion to spirituality and serving others.
Use this time to look back on the past year because very soon you will start a new year with your birthday.
Your Personality And Health
On April 19, the Sun leaves Aries for Taurus, which will start the month of the Bull. You’ll feel the energies shift away from the fiery, take charge power of Aries to the earthy, steady world of Taurus. This annual change brings needed calm after Aries and its high octane rush.
For you, Taurus, planets in your sign energize you because they bring vitality into your first house of personality and your body. Even if your birthday comes late in your sign, as soon as the Sun enters Taurus you typically will feel a lift that sustains you until your day of cake and candles arrives. Enjoy this time to work on any project that’s especially meaningful or important to you, attend to health concerns, update your look or image, or strengthen your personality and character.
Mercury Retrograde Ends
Last month, our solar system’s smallest planet, Mercury, went retrograde, which it generally does three times annually for about three weeks at a time. As April begins, Mercury remains retrograde.
The retrograde will end on April 15.
Until then, avoid starting anything new, and don’t sign contracts because you won’t have all the facts. Remain flexible and slow down even though the Aries powers this month (including Mercury in Aries) are pushing you to get going.
Instead, turn the Aries forces inward by working on your spirituality and meditating. Reflect on how the retrograde has affected you and your life and how well you’ve managed any surprises or challenges it has brought. Or direct the retrograde energies outward to anything “re”: review, redo, rethink, recycle, reverse, restore, repair, reconnect, and so on.

Volatile Energies – Proceed With Caution
The Sun entered Aries last month on March 20 and remains there until April 19.
Aries brings the power needed to birth the new. Imagine the force required for a seed to sprout or a chick to break out of its shell. Or the effort needed for a new business to take hold or a new fitness regimen to become a habit.
Aries and its fiery ruler, Mars, drive us to move quickly and make things happen. They can help us compete and accomplish what seems impossible.
Yet their powers can be explosive and dangerous, as when a child too young to understand fire plays with matches or gets too close to a hot stove. As a result, as beneficial as Aries time can be, it also is associated with violent incidents throughout history.
Find out more about this pattern related to Aries time in my article, Aries And A History Of Violence.
In addition, several planets currently sit in Capricorn (including Aries’s fiery ruler, Mars). That means they are challenging all the planets now in Aries and raising the stakes. These alignments can create great good if we use them wisely to turn a corner on major problems.
The movement of Chiron, the healing asteroid, into Aries on April 17 can help us overcome the negative expressions of Aries. Chiron will move through this sign for seven years, helping us come to terms with impulsiveness, violence, inappropriate risks, and all other misuses of Aries energy.
Throughout this month, stay aware of this potential so you can avoid serious mistakes and help others do the same. Also, remember your ability to serve as a force for peace and a nurturing presence. The new and full Moons this month will bring particularly high energies, making them good times to focus on spirituality and the highest good and best outcome for all.
A New Era Coming In May – How To Get Ready
Seven years ago, Uranus left Pisces for Aries on March 11, 2011.
Uranus is the Great Awakener, the liberator, the planet that forces us to evolve by bringing sudden change as well as lightning flashes of inspiration. It helps us tap our genius so we can direct it toward helping others.
Its time in Aries has brought great challenges, especially from 2012 through 2015. In those years, Uranus made seven difficult alignments with Pluto in Capricorn. All of us felt powerful forces urging us to overcome obstacles, turn a corner on longstanding problems, and reinvent ourselves and our lives. We also saw these pressures on the world stage, manifesting many changes.
For you, Taurus, Uranus in Aries may have brought health shakeups, especially anything related to psychological concerns, addictions, or treatments requiring solitude or seclusion (such as a hospital stay). It also may have affected your spiritual life, given you high power insights through dreams, or brought in projects you needed to work on secretly or favor from unusual people who preferred to remain anonymous. The connections with Pluto in Capricorn affected your connections to foreign people and places as well and may have led you to start a degree program or launch a publishing or broadcasting project.
Think back over the past seven years. How has your life changed? What have you overcome? And how have you freed yourself and struck out in bold and visionary directions?
Also, consider how much the world has changed since 2011.
This month, reflect on all that’s happened for you, your friends and family, all humanity, and our planet. Honor how much you’ve learned, achieved, and grown.
Accept any mistakes and missteps and make peace with who you’ve become so you’re ready to move on to a new stage because the Uranus in Aries era will end next month, on May 15. That’s the day Uranus heads into earthy Taurus and brings changes to all things associated with the Bull.
Next month’s horoscope will give you more details on this momentous shift. For now, get ready by looking back on the last seven years so you can gain valuable perspective and get ideas on how you want to shape the coming seven years.
Plan Your Month: Important Dates In April
This month brings several key dates to watch as you plan your month. Mark your calendar and take action (or rest) as recommended on the dates listed here so your efforts can bring progress in all areas of your life.
April 1: A stressful full Moon on March 31 may continue to reverberate, so continue spiritual efforts based on whatever came up for you. Also, retrograde Mercury joins with the Sun in your twelfth house of solitude, health, and spirituality. Make time to be alone so you can reflect on your life and inner self, and use prayer and meditation to support health improvement or seek inspiration for behind the scenes projects.
April 2: Mars and Saturn come together in your ninth house of travel, education, and all things international, bringing a potent mix of power and prudence. Apply your will in a disciplined way to overcome a longstanding issue or seek advice from an authority or older person.
April 7: Your ruler, Venus, in your first house of the self and personality connects well with Saturn in your publishing house. A VIP may give the go ahead on a book or article proposal, or your creative flair may land you a long term international opportunity or a new connection in broadcasting or the travel industry.
April 10: The Sun in your privacy house challenges Pluto in your travel area. Your desire to polish a project behind the scenes may conflict with a VIP’s insistence on taking it public, or travel demands may create obstacles to correcting a health concern. Exercise caution around authority figures and hold off on meetings or discussions. Instead, channel your energy into the projects most meaningful to you, networking internationally or in the media industry, or updating your look before an important university interview, as Mars in your education and expansion area connects harmoniously with Venus in your personality and image house.
April 12: Venus in your house of the body and personal character links lovingly with Neptune in your friendship and associations house. Invite friends to accompany you to a luxurious spa for massages and other pampering or contact a mystically minded connection about joining a spiritual group.
April 12 – 15: The Moon enters its balsamic phase, the "dark of the Moon" time before the new Moon. Slow down and review the past month since the new Moon that arrived on March 17. Meditate, rest, and reflect on what you want to do in the coming month. Find out more about this mysterious monthly time in my Balsamic Moon Phase article. Also, this period is excellent for spiritual work, meditation, and prayer. See my article on How To Relieve Stress – Meditate At The Right Time for details.
April 14: A helpful connection between Jupiter in your marriage and partnership house and Pluto in your travel and education area may inspire you to plan an overseas trip with your spouse or work with a business partner to teach a college course tapping your considerable expertise. Mars, also in your travel and expansion house, makes the same connection to Neptune in your networking and charitable projects house, driving you to journey somewhere for a volunteer effort or work with a local university to establish a scholarship.
April 15: A big day. The new Moon in Aries (and the two weeks following, until the next full Moon) normally would supply your best time all year for jumpstarting new health initiatives or spiritual practices or beginning a project behind the scenes. Yet Mercury ends its retrograde this day, an often stormy time that can come with surprise technical or communication issues needing resolution. Uranus sitting very close to this new Moon suggests other unforeseen developments, and four planets in Aries spar with three heavy hitters in your international, education, and publishing area. So expect the unexpected, see what comes to a head, and wait at least two days to start anything new. See my article, Mercury Retrograde Dates, Advice, for additional guidance.
April 16: Venus, your ruler, in your personality and health area will face off with Jupiter across the sky in your marriage and agreements house. Personal excess, in yourself or someone in a close relationship, likely will surface. You and your partner, either in marriage or business, can benefit from reviewing any tendency toward self-indulgence or unrealistic behavior or ideas. Regardless of what comes up, hold loving thoughts and maintain a generous spirit to move discussions in constructive directions. Consider hiring a professional to help overcome vexing patterns or mediate negotiations.
April 17: Venus connects harmoniously with Pluto in your expansion house, sparking powerful desires to showcase your personality and interests in the world through a publishing venture or an arts related trip abroad.
April 18: The Sun in Aries moves to an exact alignment with Uranus in the same sign. You may experience a breakthrough in a health matter or have an electrifying spiritual insight. This alignment also could bring a solution to improve a behind the scenes project.
April 19: The Sun enters Taurus. Pause and see if you can feel the shift from fiery, action oriented Aries to earthy, comfortable Taurus.
April 23: Mars in your broadcasting house links helpfully with Jupiter in your agreements and partnership house. A high energy media personality may contact you about an opportunity to highlight your expertise on the air or a business advisor or agent may secure you a new publishing contract or negotiate foreign rights for a pet project.
April 24: Your ruler, Venus, moves into Gemini in your second house of possessions, earned income, and values. If you collect art or similar items, attend an auction or visit a dealer or gallery as your ability to spot value overlooked by others will be high. Your earning power also gains favor, so negotiate a raise or ask for additional benefits.
April 26: Mars meets Pluto in your expansion house, empowering you to succeed in academic, international, or publicity matters. Respect this energy’s deep power and use it wisely so you can maintain good relationships as you surge forward on your goals.
April 29: The Sun nods fondly to Saturn in your expansion house, helping to solidify gains in international, academic, or publishing projects of particular importance to you. Also, a full Moon in Scorpio lights your seventh house of marriage, agreements, and partnerships. Something related to your spouse or another important relationship may peak around this time, and you may realize you need to make adjustments. Balance focus on others with attention to your own needs and actions so you maintain harmony between self and others. This day (and the day before and day after) favor spiritual work: plan time for meditation and prayer. See my article on How To Relieve Stress – Meditate At The Right Time for details.

Your Birthday Is Coming
In addition to all these dates, Taurus, your birthday will arrive soon.

Honor your accomplishments and analyze your challenges. Both have shaped how you grew this year and can help you create wondrous experiences in the coming year by building on what you’ve learned. Look back and enjoy all the times you expressed your best and truest self.
May your reflections bring you useful insights along with many reasons to smile at the love you shared with friends and family, the new people who entered your life, and the great things you achieved.
