April Astrology – Headline News
Your Career, Leadership, And Recognition
As April begins, we have three planets in Aries:
- The warm and powerful Sun, who always shines his light freely and generously to bring joy and optimism to our world
- Mercury, who governs thinking, communication, and commerce and brings playfulness and curiosity wherever he goes
- Uranus, who governs inspiration, technology, and electricity and brings sudden change, freedom, and a quirky quality to our lives
We also will have a fourth factor in Aries, the asteroid called Chiron, who is associated with where we feel wounded and how we heal and then help others based on our experiences. Chiron has moved through Pisces since February 8, 2011, and leaves that sign for Aries on April 17. Chiron remains there for seven years, giving all of us plenty of time to reckon with Aries and adjust how we use its power so we’re applying that force constructively.
Aries is a fire sign symbolized by the Ram, a competitive, hard charging creature who leads with his horns, rushing head first into life and ever ready to do battle. Aries drives us forward, pushing us to focus on ourselves, our energy, and our goals. This high power sign allows us to overcome inertia so we can get moving, start anything we desire (and start over at any time), and rush out in front of others in order to lead. It also inspires us to serve as spiritual warriors who inspire by setting a noble example, using leadership for constructive purposes, and channeling resources toward worthwhile goals.
Find out more about Aries in my article, Aries Time: Face Who You Really Are. Also, you can tune in to this sign’s bold, take charge energies with The Aries Meditation, an uplifting, guided meditation.
For you, Cancer, planets in Aries always activate your tenth house of career, public standing and reputation, leadership, and legacy. All the Aries planets will help you make bold moves and intensify your desire to succeed professionally, earn recognition for your contributions, take charge at work or in your community (perhaps by running for office), and consider the example you set and the legacy you’d like to leave through the work you do and the mentoring or other service your give others.
Your Friends, Associates, And Charitable Activities
On April 19, the Sun leaves Aries for Taurus, which will start the month of the Bull. You’ll feel the energies shift away from the fiery, take charge power of Aries to the earthy, steady world of Taurus. This annual change brings needed calm after Aries and its high octane rush.
For you, Cancer, planets in Taurus revitalize your need to connect with other people because they put focus and earthy practicality into your eleventh house of friendship, networking, business associates, clubs, and industry associations. This area also governs your idealism related to helping others, realizing your kinship with all humanity, and improving conditions through philanthropy. As soon as the Sun enters Taurus, you may feel inspired to call a friend, volunteer or make a charitable donation, join a trade association, or accept invitations to business and professional mixers to expand your network.
Mercury Retrograde Ends
Last month, our solar system’s smallest planet, Mercury, went retrograde, which it generally does three times annually for about three weeks at a time. As April begins, Mercury remains retrograde.
The retrograde will end on April 15.
Until then, avoid starting anything new, and don’t sign contracts because you won’t have all the facts. Remain flexible and slow down even though the Aries powers this month (including Mercury in Aries) are pushing you to get going.
Instead, turn the Aries forces inward by working on your spirituality and meditating. Reflect on how the retrograde has affected you and your life and how well you’ve managed any surprises or challenges it has brought. Or direct the retrograde energies outward to anything “re”: review, redo, rethink, recycle, reverse, restore, repair, reconnect, and so on.

Volatile Energies – Proceed With Caution
The Sun entered Aries last month on March 20 and remains there until April 19.
Aries brings the power needed to birth the new. Imagine the force required for a seed to sprout or a chick to break out of its shell. Or the effort needed for a new business to take hold or a new fitness regimen to become a habit.
Aries and its fiery ruler, Mars, drive us to move quickly and make things happen. They can help us compete and accomplish what seems impossible.
Yet their powers can be explosive and dangerous, as when a child too young to understand fire plays with matches or gets too close to a hot stove. As a result, as beneficial as Aries time can be, it also is associated with violent incidents throughout history.
Find out more about this pattern related to Aries time in my article, Aries And A History Of Violence.
In addition, several planets currently sit in Capricorn (including Aries’s fiery ruler, Mars). That means they are challenging all the planets now in Aries and raising the stakes. These alignments can create great good if we use them wisely to turn a corner on major problems.
The movement of Chiron, the healing asteroid, into Aries on April 17 can help us overcome the negative expressions of Aries. Chiron will move through this sign for seven years, helping us come to terms with impulsiveness, violence, inappropriate risks, and all other misuses of Aries energy.
Throughout this month, stay aware of this potential so you can avoid serious mistakes and help others do the same. Also, remember your ability to serve as a force for peace and a nurturing presence. The new and full Moons this month will bring particularly high energies, making them good times to focus on spirituality and the highest good and best outcome for all.
A New Era Coming In May – How To Get Ready
Seven years ago, Uranus left Pisces for Aries on March 11, 2011.
Uranus is the Great Awakener, the liberator, the planet that forces us to evolve by bringing sudden change as well as lightning flashes of inspiration. It helps us tap our genius so we can direct it toward helping others.
Its time in Aries has brought great challenges, especially from 2012 through 2015. In those years, Uranus made seven difficult alignments with Pluto in Capricorn. All of us felt powerful forces urging us to overcome obstacles, turn a corner on longstanding problems, and reinvent ourselves and our lives. We also saw these pressures on the world stage, manifesting many changes.
For you, Cancer, Uranus in Aries probably has brought shakeups in your career, leadership, professional or industry status, and ability to mentor as well as your community standing and views on your potential legacy. The connections with Pluto in Capricorn likely affected your marriage and business partnerships, agreements, and relationships with agents and advisors as well.
Think back over the past seven years. How has your life changed? What have you overcome? And how have you freed yourself and struck out in bold and visionary directions?
Also, consider how much the world has changed since 2011.
This month, reflect on all that’s happened for you, your friends and family, all humanity, and our planet. Honor how much you’ve learned, achieved, and grown.
Accept any mistakes and missteps and make peace with who you’ve become so you’re ready to move on to a new stage because the Uranus in Aries era will end next month, on May 15. That’s the day Uranus heads into earthy Taurus and brings changes to all things associated with the Bull.
Next month’s horoscope will give you more details on this momentous shift. For now, get ready by looking back on the last seven years so you can gain valuable perspective and get ideas on how you want to shape the coming seven years.
Plan Your Month: Important Dates In April
This month brings several key dates to watch as you plan your month. Mark your calendar and take action (or rest) as recommended on the dates listed here so your efforts can bring progress in all areas of your life.
April 1: A stressful full Moon on March 31 may continue to reverberate, so continue spiritual efforts based on whatever came up for you. Also, retrograde Mercury joins with the Sun in your tenth house of career and professional standing. Look back at your work life and leadership and how others perceived you in the past; see if you’ve left any skills and talents behind that still have value.
April 2: Mars and Saturn come together in your seventh house of marriage and other committed partnerships, empowering you with passion as well as prudence to support a happy union. You may propose to your current love or connect to an agent who can further your career.
April 7: Venus in your eleventh house of friends connects well with Saturn in your marriage house. A friend may introduce you to someone serious who sparks thoughts of a future together, or your partner could connect you with someone who becomes a friend as well as part of your business network.
April 10: The Sun in your career house challenges Pluto in your committed partnership and agreements area. Avoid drama at work and keep a low profile to avoid a dustup with partners or business advisors. Put off strategy sessions or heavy meetings, and if your spouse objects to a lack of work-life balance, wait to hold sensitive discussions. Instead, work with gusto on your own tasks and make time for your spouse: attend a fundraiser together or dine with friends before returning home for a passionate evening, as Mars in your marriage area connects harmoniously with Venus in your friendship and charities house.
April 12: Venus in your house of friends and volunteering links lovingly with Neptune in your international and education house. Plan an overseas trip with a charitable organization or invite friends to join you for dinner to enjoy a cuisine new to you.
April 12 – 15: The Moon, your ruler, enters its balsamic phase, the "dark of the Moon" time before the new Moon. Slow down and review the past month since the new Moon that arrived on March 17. Meditate, rest, and reflect on what you want to do in the coming month. Find out more about this mysterious monthly time in my Balsamic Moon Phase article. Also, this period is excellent for spiritual work, meditation, and prayer. See my article on How To Relieve Stress – Meditate At The Right Time for details.
April 14: A helpful connection between Jupiter in your children, creativity, and romance house and Pluto in your marriage area may bring a favorable response from your partner about your desire for a child, help from your agent on a creative project, or an introduction to a new love. Mars, also in your partnership and agreements house, makes the same connection to Neptune in your expansion and international house, inspiring you to plan a getaway with your spouse to a secluded resort, spiritual retreat, or artist colony.
April 15: A big day. The new Moon in Aries (and the two weeks following, until the next full Moon) normally would supply your best time all year for accepting a job offer or promotion, taking on a major leadership role, applying for an industry award, or announcing your intention to run for office or improve your community. Yet Mercury ends its retrograde this day, an often stormy time that can come with surprise technical or communication issues needing resolution. Uranus sitting very close to this new Moon suggests other unforeseen developments, and four planets in Aries spar with three heavy hitters in your marriage and business partnerships area. So expect the unexpected, see what comes to a head, and wait at least two days to start anything new. See my article, Mercury Retrograde Dates, Advice, for additional guidance.
April 16: Venus in your friendship and networking area will face off with Jupiter across the sky in your creativity, children, and romance house. Concerns in these sectors likely will surface, such as a friend’s involvement with your children, a romance with a pal, or business connections’ work on your arts initiative. You and your friends or associates will benefit from rethinking arrangements and responsibilities. Hold off on sensitive negotiations about any of these topics as you reflect and gather facts. Consider hiring a professional to help with fertility questions or artistic concerns.
April 17: Venus connects harmoniously with Pluto in your committed partnership house, giving you a chance to bring together friends with your spouse or business partners and advisors, perhaps at a charitable event you help sponsor.
April 18: The Sun in Aries moves to an exact alignment with Uranus in the same sign. Favor will come to your career and might yield a sudden promotion, leadership opportunity, or news of an award or recognition. You also may feel energized to reinvent your public image or mentor others in an out of the box manner.
April 19: The Sun enters Taurus. Pause and see if you can feel the shift from fiery, action oriented Aries to earthy, comfortable Taurus.
April 23: Mars in your partnership house links helpfully with Jupiter in your children, creativity, and romance house. You or your love may propose marriage, or your partner may engage with you passionately to conceive or suggest a bold new activity for the two of you to enjoy. If your relationship needs revitalizing, this is your opportunity to fan the spark that remains into a fun and loving flame.
April 24: Venus moves into Gemini in your twelfth house of health and spirituality. Sympathetic health professionals can help you with a concern. Also, dreams and meditations can become sweeter now so enjoy them and make time for solitude to savor your reflections.
April 26: Mars meets Pluto in your committed partnership house, empowering your desire to link with another, either through marriage or a business partnership. You or your love may propose, or you may sign an agreement with an agent or associate. Use this high power energy carefully to harness your passion constructively so you can achieve your desired outcome.
April 29: The Sun nods fondly to Saturn in your partnership house, helping to solidify marriage plans or a partnership agreement. Also, a full Moon in Scorpio lights your fifth house of children, romance, and creativity. Something related to your children or fertility treatments, your romantic life, or a creative initiative may peak around this time, and you may realize you need to make changes. Balance focus on children or personal fulfillment in romance or the arts with time for friends and reflection on the audience for your creative work so your life feels well rounded and contributes to happiness in all areas. This day (and the day before and day after) favor spiritual work: plan time for meditation and prayer. See my article on How To Relieve Stress – Meditate At The Right Time for details.
