Happy April, Leo!
Leo: Your Month Ahead
For you, Leo, this month offers exciting opportunities to travel (especially overseas), expand your world through international connections or higher education, work on visa or immigration matters, and reinvigorate your career and public standing.
April will usher in formidable forces with high potential for innovation and bold initiatives. It also presents its share of challenging energies, however, thanks to some key planetary alignments and shifts.
Although we have the energies of a new season and the new spiritual year favoring a fresh start, this month will require us to wait on launching anything so we can revisit the past first.
Read on to see how you can leverage April’s astrology to improve yourself and your life. As you do, you will expand your ability to help others.
April Astrology – Headline News
Your Travel, Education, And International Connections
As April begins, we have three planets in Aries:
- The warm and powerful Sun, who always shines his light freely and generously to bring joy and optimism to our world
- Mercury, who governs thinking, communication, and commerce and brings playfulness and curiosity wherever he goes
- Uranus, who governs inspiration, technology, and electricity and brings sudden change, freedom, and a quirky quality to our lives
We also will have a fourth factor in Aries, the asteroid called Chiron, who is associated with where we feel wounded and how we heal and then help others based on our experiences. Chiron has moved through Pisces since February 8, 2011, and leaves that sign for Aries on April 17. Chiron remains there for seven years, giving all of us plenty of time to reckon with Aries and adjust how we use its power so we’re applying that force constructively.
Aries is a fire sign symbolized by the Ram, a competitive, hard charging creature who leads with his horns, rushing head first into life and ever ready to do battle. Aries drives us forward, pushing us to focus on ourselves, our energy, and our goals. This high power sign allows us to overcome inertia so we can get moving, start anything we desire (and start over at any time), and rush out in front of others in order to lead. It also inspires us to serve as spiritual warriors who inspire by setting a noble example, using leadership for constructive purposes, and channeling resources toward worthwhile goals.
Find out more about Aries in my article, Aries Time: Face Who You Really Are. Also, you can tune in to this sign’s bold, take charge energies with The Aries Meditation, an uplifting, guided meditation.
For you, Leo, planets in Aries always activate your ninth house of expansion: everything you do to grow and connect with the big, wide world, such as travel, international connections, higher education, publishing and broadcasting, and philosophy. All the Aries planets will intensify your desire to get involved in media, plan a major trip, eat ethnic food or talk to foreign people, resolve immigration or visa concerns, or start work on a degree or finish your dissertation.
Your Career And Public Standing
On April 19, the Sun, your ruler, leaves Aries for Taurus, which will start the month of the Bull. You’ll feel the energies shift away from the fiery, take charge power of Aries to the earthy, steady world of Taurus. This annual change brings needed calm after Aries and its high octane rush.
For you, Leo, planets in Taurus stabilize your career because they put earthy practicality and focus into your tenth house of professional achievement, awards and honors, reputation, and community leadership. This area also governs your legacy and ability to apply your experience as an example or mentor. As soon as the Sun enters Taurus, you may feel an urge to help younger colleagues, apply for an award, or contact your attorney about long term strategy and succession planning for your business.
Mercury Retrograde Ends
Last month, our solar system’s smallest planet, Mercury, went retrograde, which it generally does three times annually for about three weeks at a time. As April begins, Mercury remains retrograde.
The retrograde will end on April 15.
Until then, avoid starting anything new, and don’t sign contracts because you won’t have all the facts. Remain flexible and slow down even though the Aries powers this month (including Mercury in Aries) are pushing you to get going.
Instead, turn the Aries forces inward by working on your spirituality and meditating. Reflect on how the retrograde has affected you and your life and how well you’ve managed any surprises or challenges it has brought. Or direct the retrograde energies outward to anything “re”: review, redo, rethink, recycle, reverse, restore, repair, reconnect, and so on.

Volatile Energies – Proceed With Caution
Your ruler, the Sun, entered Aries last month on March 20 and remains there until April 19.
Aries brings the power needed to birth the new. Imagine the force required for a seed to sprout or a chick to break out of its shell. Or the effort needed for a new business to take hold or a new fitness regimen to become a habit.
Aries and its fiery ruler, Mars, drive us to move quickly and make things happen. They can help us compete and accomplish what seems impossible.
Yet their powers can be explosive and dangerous, as when a child too young to understand fire plays with matches or gets too close to a hot stove. As a result, as beneficial as Aries time can be, it also is associated with violent incidents throughout history.
Find out more about this pattern related to Aries time in my article, Aries And A History Of Violence.
In addition, several planets currently sit in Capricorn (including Aries’s fiery ruler, Mars). That means they are challenging all the planets now in Aries and raising the stakes. These alignments can create great good if we use them wisely to turn a corner on major problems.
The movement of Chiron, the healing asteroid, into Aries on April 17 can help us overcome the negative expressions of Aries. Chiron will move through this sign for seven years, helping us come to terms with impulsiveness, violence, inappropriate risks, and all other misuses of Aries energy.
Throughout this month, stay aware of this potential so you can avoid serious mistakes and help others do the same. Also, remember your ability to serve as a force for peace and a nurturing presence. The new and full Moons this month will bring particularly high energies, making them good times to focus on spirituality and the highest good and best outcome for all.
A New Era Coming In May – How To Get Ready
Seven years ago, Uranus left Pisces for Aries on March 11, 2011.
Uranus is the Great Awakener, the liberator, the planet that forces us to evolve by bringing sudden change as well as lightning flashes of inspiration. It helps us tap our genius so we can direct it toward helping others.
Its time in Aries has brought great challenges, especially from 2012 through 2015. In those years, Uranus made seven difficult alignments with Pluto in Capricorn. All of us felt powerful forces urging us to overcome obstacles, turn a corner on longstanding problems, and reinvent ourselves and our lives. We also saw these pressures on the world stage, manifesting many changes.
For you, Leo, Uranus in Aries may have created shakeups in a publishing venture or broadcast initiative, international connections, travel, or academic pursuits. It also may have affected your beliefs and pushed you to fashion a more worthy or modern philosophy of life. The connections with Pluto in Capricorn may have affected your job, health, fitness, or daily life management as well.
Think back over the past seven years. How has your life changed? What have you overcome? And how have you freed yourself and struck out in bold and visionary directions?
Also, consider how much the world has changed since 2011.
This month, reflect on all that’s happened for you, your friends and family, all humanity, and our planet. Honor how much you’ve learned, achieved, and grown.
Accept any mistakes and missteps and make peace with who you’ve become so you’re ready to move on to a new stage because the Uranus in Aries era will end next month, on May 15. That’s the day Uranus heads into earthy Taurus and brings changes to all things associated with the Bull.
Next month’s horoscope will give you more details on this momentous shift. For now, get ready by looking back on the last seven years so you can gain valuable perspective and get ideas on how you want to shape the coming seven years.
Plan Your Month: Important Dates In April
This month brings several key dates to watch as you plan your month. Mark your calendar and take action (or rest) as recommended on the dates listed here so your efforts can bring progress in all areas of your life.
April 1: A stressful full Moon on March 31 may continue to reverberate, so continue spiritual efforts based on whatever came up for you. Also, retrograde Mercury joins with the Sun, your ruler, in your ninth house of large scale publicity, international business and travel, and education. Look back at your contacts with people and cultures overseas as well as the mark you’ve made on the world and your beliefs; see if you’ve set people or things aside that still have value.
April 2: Mars and Saturn come together in your sixth house of work, giving you a powerful maturity and winning ways with VIPs. Make a bold suggestion to your boss or another important connection or invite a mentor to lunch or coffee.
April 7: Venus in your tenth house of career connects well with Saturn in your job house. An older colleague may recommend you for promotion or a raise, or your charm and good reputation may gain you favor from a boss or other authority figure.
April 10: The Sun in your international and publicity house challenges Pluto in your job area. Be on the lookout for resistance from VIPs over a high profile promotion campaign, global trade initiative, or travel program. Tread carefully and delay important meetings to let this alignment pass. Instead, empower employees with constructive guidance and build good relationships with coworkers by suggesting a social outing, as Mars in your job area connects harmoniously with Venus in your career house.
April 12: Venus in your house of industry standing links lovingly with Neptune in your most mystical house. Meditate and dream about ways to become known for your artistic touch and gift for relationship building.
April 12 – 15: The Moon enters its balsamic phase, the "dark of the Moon" time before the new Moon. Slow down and review the past month since the new Moon that arrived on March 17. Meditate, rest, and reflect on what you want to do in the coming month. Find out more about this mysterious monthly time in my Balsamic Moon Phase article. Also, this period is excellent for spiritual work, meditation, and prayer. See my article on How To Relieve Stress – Meditate At The Right Time for details.
April 14: A helpful connection between Jupiter in your home and family house and Pluto in your fitness area may inspire you to figure out how to work out effectively at home. Mars, also in your job house, makes the same connection to Neptune in your shared money house, giving you drive to get to the bottom of an insurance concern or dig for facts to understand the true bottom line in a child support or alimony negotiation.
April 15: A big day. The new Moon in Aries (and the two weeks following, until the next full Moon) normally would supply your best time all year for a vacation, study abroad, or launching a major publicity campaign. Yet Mercury ends its retrograde this day, an often stormy time that can come with surprise technical or communication issues needing resolution. Uranus sitting very close to this new Moon suggests other unforeseen developments, and four planets in Aries spar with three heavy hitters in your job and health area. So expect the unexpected, see what comes to a head, and wait at least two days to start anything new. See my article, Mercury Retrograde Dates, Advice, for additional guidance.
April 16: Venus in your career area will face off with Jupiter across the sky in your home and family house. Work-life balance or demands by real estate or construction professionals over a home improvement plan or purchase may surface. You and your family may need to rethink what it will take professionally to afford your dream home, or someone at work may object to time off needed to help relatives or oversee renovations. Wait to negotiate at work and put off sensitive conversations with loved ones or contractors. If necessary, get professional help from an expert to work out the best solution.
April 17: Venus connects harmoniously with Pluto in your job house, so your career may see gains from a powerful colleague, boss, or mentor.
April 18: Your ruler, the Sun, in Aries moves to an exact alignment with Uranus in the same sign. Unexpected travel opportunities may come your way, or you may hear about a visa, college application, or publishing deal. You also may get the urge to work internationally or learn about a culture quite different from your own.
April 19: The Sun enters Taurus. Pause and see if you can feel the shift from fiery, action oriented Aries to earthy, comfortable Taurus.
April 23: Mars in your health house links helpfully with Jupiter in your home and family house. Loved ones may encourage your exciting new fitness approach or join you in making major dietary changes or preparing to participate in a charity run.
April 24: Venus moves into Gemini in your eleventh house of friends, networking, clubs, and charities. You can charm friends and new contacts alike with lovely words and heartfelt gestures that can lead to lucrative new business or help for a pet volunteer project.
April 26: Mars meets Pluto in your health and daily living house, giving you drive and stamina to continue an ambitious plan to get in shape, run a marathon, or reinvent your life to support better health and happiness. Plow this energy into working out or something else constructive, as its power can overwhelm others unless you’re careful.
April 29: The Sun nods fondly to Saturn in your work house, stabilizing advancement and goals. Also, a full Moon in Scorpio lights your fourth house of home and family. Something related to your loved ones, home, parents, or real estate holdings may peak, and you may realize you need to make changes. Balance time at home with focus on your career so your work-life mix pleases you and gives you a variety of creative outlets. This day (and the day before and day after) favor spiritual work: plan time for meditation and prayer. See my article on How To Relieve Stress – Meditate At The Right Time for details.
