April will usher in formidable forces with high potential for innovation and bold initiatives. It also presents its share of challenging energies, however, thanks to some key planetary alignments and shifts.

April Astrology – Headline News
Your Children, Creativity, And Other Pleasures
As April begins, we have three planets in Aries:
- The warm and powerful Sun, who always shines his light freely and generously to bring joy and optimism to our world
- Mercury, who governs thinking, communication, and commerce and brings playfulness and curiosity wherever he goes
- Uranus, who governs inspiration, technology, and electricity and brings sudden change, freedom, and a quirky quality to our lives
We also will have a fourth factor in Aries, the asteroid called Chiron, who is associated with where we feel wounded and how we heal and then help others based on our experiences. Chiron has moved through Pisces since February 8, 2011, and leaves that sign for Aries on April 17. Chiron remains there for seven years, giving all of us plenty of time to reckon with Aries and adjust how we use its power so we’re applying that force constructively.
Aries is a fire sign symbolized by the Ram, a competitive, hard charging creature who leads with his horns, rushing head first into life and ever ready to do battle. Aries drives us forward, pushing us to focus on ourselves, our energy, and our goals. This high power sign allows us to overcome inertia so we can get moving, start anything we desire (and start over at any time), and rush out in front of others in order to lead. It also inspires us to serve as spiritual warriors who inspire by setting a noble example, using leadership for constructive purposes, and channeling resources toward worthwhile goals.
Find out more about Aries in my article, Aries Time: Face Who You Really Are. Also, you can tune in to this sign’s bold, take charge energies with The Aries Meditation, an uplifting, guided meditation.
For you, Sagittarius, planets in Aries always activate your fifth house of creativity, which can be children you conceive or artworks or hobbies you create, as well as pleasures of all kinds such a parties and films, speculation through stocks or enjoying a night at a casino, or going to any spectacle from a circus to a concert. All the Aries planets will add passion to your relationships with children or intensify your desire to conceive a baby or creative project or be out and about enjoying life and its many pleasures.
Your Job And Health
On April 19, the Sun leaves Aries for Taurus, which will start the month of the Bull. You’ll feel the energies shift away from the fiery, take charge power of Aries to the earthy, steady world of Taurus. This annual change brings needed calm after Aries and its high octane rush.
For you, Sagittarius, planets in Taurus stabilize your health and daily life because they put earthy practicality and focus into your sixth house of your job, diet and fitness, and how you manage your day to day living. This area also governs pets and how you offer service by adopting an animal and caring for it with love. As soon as the Sun enters Taurus, you may feel a new calm in your daily life, as you slow down to smell the proverbial roses and bring steady energy and a spirit of service to your daily work and life.
Mercury Retrograde Ends
Last month, our solar system’s smallest planet, Mercury, went retrograde, which it generally does three times annually for about three weeks at a time. As April begins, Mercury remains retrograde.
The retrograde will end on April 15.
Until then, avoid starting anything new, and don’t sign contracts because you won’t have all the facts. Remain flexible and slow down even though the Aries powers this month (including Mercury in Aries) are pushing you to get going.
Instead, turn the Aries forces inward by working on your spirituality and meditating. Reflect on how the retrograde has affected you and your life and how well you’ve managed any surprises or challenges it has brought. Or direct the retrograde energies outward to anything “re”: review, redo, rethink, recycle, reverse, restore, repair, reconnect, and so on.

Volatile Energies – Proceed With Caution
The Sun entered Aries last month on March 20 and remains there until April 19.
Aries brings the power needed to birth the new. Imagine the force required for a seed to sprout or a chick to break out of its shell. Or the effort needed for a new business to take hold or a new fitness regimen to become a habit.
Aries and its fiery ruler, Mars, drive us to move quickly and make things happen. They can help us compete and accomplish what seems impossible.
Yet their powers can be explosive and dangerous, as when a child too young to understand fire plays with matches or gets too close to a hot stove. As a result, as beneficial as Aries time can be, it also is associated with violent incidents throughout history.
Find out more about this pattern related to Aries time in my article, Aries And A History Of Violence.
In addition, several planets currently sit in Capricorn (including Aries’s fiery ruler, Mars). That means they are challenging all the planets now in Aries and raising the stakes. These alignments can create great good if we use them wisely to turn a corner on major problems.
The movement of Chiron, the healing asteroid, into Aries on April 17 can help us overcome the negative expressions of Aries. Chiron will move through this sign for seven years, helping us come to terms with impulsiveness, violence, inappropriate risks, and all other misuses of Aries energy.
Throughout this month, stay aware of this potential so you can avoid serious mistakes and help others do the same. Also, remember your ability to serve as a force for peace and a nurturing presence. The new and full Moons this month will bring particularly high energies, making them good times to focus on spirituality and the highest good and best outcome for all.
A New Era Coming In May – How To Get Ready
Seven years ago, Uranus left Pisces for Aries on March 11, 2011.
Uranus is the Great Awakener, the liberator, the planet that forces us to evolve by bringing sudden change as well as lightning flashes of inspiration. It helps us tap our genius so we can direct it toward helping others.
Its time in Aries has brought great challenges, especially from 2012 through 2015. In those years, Uranus made seven difficult alignments with Pluto in Capricorn. All of us felt powerful forces urging us to overcome obstacles, turn a corner on longstanding problems, and reinvent ourselves and our lives. We also saw these pressures on the world stage, manifesting many changes.
For you, Sagittarius, Uranus in Aries likely has brought some significant changes for a child or for you by welcoming a new baby or starting high tech fertility treatments or perhaps shifts in your stock investments, creative work or pastimes, or the kinds of pleasures you enjoy. The connections with Pluto in Capricorn affected your job and earned income, possessions, or values as well.
Think back over the past seven years. How has your life changed? What have you overcome? And how have you freed yourself and struck out in bold and visionary directions?
Also, consider how much the world has changed since 2011.
This month, reflect on all that’s happened for you, your friends and family, all humanity, and our planet. Honor how much you’ve learned, achieved, and grown.
Accept any mistakes and missteps and make peace with who you’ve become so you’re ready to move on to a new stage because the Uranus in Aries era will end next month, on May 15. That’s the day Uranus heads into earthy Taurus and brings changes to all things associated with the Bull.
Next month’s horoscope will give you more details on this momentous shift. For now, get ready by looking back on the last seven years so you can gain valuable perspective and get ideas on how you want to shape the coming seven years.
Plan Your Month: Important Dates In April
This month brings several key dates to watch as you plan your month. Mark your calendar and take action (or rest) as recommended on the dates listed here so your efforts can bring progress in all areas of your life.
April 1: A stressful full Moon on March 31 may continue to reverberate, so continue spiritual efforts based on whatever came up for you. Also, retrograde Mercury joins with the Sun in your fifth house of romance, creativity, and children. Revisit relationships with a romantic partner or young people, and look back over your artistic output to see if you’ve forgotten important development you’ve achieved or significant pieces you’ve created that still have value for your future artistic progress and process.
April 2: Mars and Saturn come together in your second house of earned income, giving you a winning combination of gravitas and youthful energy that could net you a raise or consideration for a promotion. An older person may help you reconsider your values or understand the significant worth of possessions you’d overlooked.
April 7: Venus in your sixth house of health and daily living connects well with Saturn in your values and possessions house. A coworker may inspire you to achieve better work life balance or reassess your priorities.
April 10: The Sun in your children house challenges Pluto in your earned income area. Money challenges related to a child’s activities may arise, or children may push your buttons to test your values. Watch your temper and keep your cool while putting off discussions for a calmer time. Instead, concentrate on career or networking and other steps to increase your income, as Mars in your income area connects harmoniously with Venus in your work house.
April 12: Venus in your house of pets links lovingly with Neptune in your home and family house. Spend time playing with pets or caring for them through grooming or a visit to the vet. Let your love and compassion overflow in kindness for furry ones as well as your human family.
April 12 – 15: The Moon enters its balsamic phase, the "dark of the Moon" time before the new Moon. Slow down and review the past month since the new Moon that arrived on March 17. Meditate, rest, and reflect on what you want to do in the coming month. Find out more about this mysterious monthly time in my Balsamic Moon Phase article. Also, this period is excellent for spiritual work, meditation, and prayer. See my article on How To Relieve Stress – Meditate At The Right Time for details.
April 14: A helpful connection between your ruler, Jupiter, in your spirituality house and Pluto in your earned income and values area may bring inspirations from dreams to help you improve your finances while supporting your soul’s need to be true to your best self. Mars, also in your income house, makes the same connection to Neptune in your home and family house, driving you to budget and manage finances to help loved ones and maintain a stable and compassionate home life for them.
April 15: A big day. The new Moon in Aries (and the two weeks following, until the next full Moon) normally would supply your best time all year for starting to conceive a child, begin your artistic masterpiece, or take up a new hobby. Yet Mercury ends its retrograde this day, an often stormy time that can come with surprise technical or communication issues needing resolution. Uranus sitting very close to this new Moon suggests other unforeseen developments, and four planets in Aries spar with three heavy hitters in your earned income and values area. So expect the unexpected, see what comes to a head, and wait at least two days to start anything new. See my article, Mercury Retrograde Dates, Advice, for additional guidance.
April 16: Venus in your health and job area will face off with Jupiter across the sky in your privacy and psychological health house. Health concerns, particularly related to overindulgence or substance use, might surface and could affect your work or sleep. You can help yourself by making time to meditate, being realistic about your body’s needs and limitations, and getting professional help if necessary. If you will need time off work to manage a health concern, wait to speak with your boss until you’ve had time to reflect and gather information.
April 17: Venus connects harmoniously with Pluto in your money house, giving you kudos from employees or coworkers, notice from a VIP, or a financial boost or new perks recognizing your deep value to your company.
April 18: The Sun in Aries moves to an exact alignment with Uranus in the same sign. A child may have a breakthrough, filling you with joy, or you may hear news about your investments, get invited to a party, or enjoy a new opportunity to showcase your artistry.
April 19: The Sun enters Taurus. Pause and see if you can feel the shift from fiery, action oriented Aries to earthy, comfortable Taurus.
April 23: Mars in your income house links helpfully with Jupiter, your ruler, in your secret projects house. A mentor who wishes to remain behind the scenes may help your career, or VIPs may reward your enthusiasm and drive with advancement, leadership opportunities, or financial gain.
April 24: Venus moves into Gemini in your seventh house of committed partnerships and agreements. You’ll enjoy saying sweet nothings to your beloved partner and savoring passion together, or you may meet a business advisor whose skills and diplomacy impress you enough to initiate negotiations for a joint venture or other arrangement.
April 26: Mars meets Pluto in your money house, helping you take charge of budgets and money management and giving you unstoppable energy and determination to increase income and succeed on the job. Use prudence in dealings with others, as this energy can be single minded; nurture relationships while reaching for your personal best.
April 29: The Sun nods fondly to Saturn in your possessions house, helping you organize your household to streamline your life and support better health. Also, a full Moon in Scorpio lights your twelfth house of spirituality and health. Something related to your health, dreams, or inner life or perhaps a behind the scenes project or concern may peak around this time, and you may realize you need to make changes. Balance spiritual reflection with practical action and better habits to walk your talk and ensure constructive changes will stick. This day (and the day before and day after) favor spiritual work: plan time for meditation and prayer. See my article on How To Relieve Stress – Meditate At The Right Time for details.
