Capricorn: Your Month Ahead
For you, Capricorn, this month offers exciting opportunities to improve your home, buy or sell real estate, strengthen family life, help parents or other loved ones, and explore your creativity or enjoy children.
April will usher in formidable forces with high potential for innovation and bold initiatives. It also presents its share of challenging energies, however, thanks to some key planetary alignments and shifts.
Although we have the energies of a new season and the new spiritual year favoring a fresh start, this month will require us to wait on launching anything so we can revisit the past first.
Read on to see how you can leverage April’s astrology to improve yourself and your life. As you do, you will expand your ability to help others.
April Astrology – Headline News
Your Home And Family
As April begins, we have three planets in Aries:
- The warm and powerful Sun, who always shines his light freely and generously to bring joy and optimism to our world
- Mercury, who governs thinking, communication, and commerce and brings playfulness and curiosity wherever he goes
- Uranus, who governs inspiration, technology, and electricity and brings sudden change, freedom, and a quirky quality to our lives
We also will have a fourth factor in Aries, the asteroid called Chiron, who is associated with where we feel wounded and how we heal and then help others based on our experiences. Chiron has moved through Pisces since February 8, 2011, and leaves that sign for Aries on April 17. Chiron remains there for seven years, giving all of us plenty of time to reckon with Aries and adjust how we use its power so we’re applying that force constructively.
Aries is a fire sign symbolized by the Ram, a competitive, hard charging creature who leads with his horns, rushing head first into life and ever ready to do battle. Aries drives us forward, pushing us to focus on ourselves, our energy, and our goals. This high power sign allows us to overcome inertia so we can get moving, start anything we desire (and start over at any time), and rush out in front of others in order to lead. It also inspires us to serve as spiritual warriors who inspire by setting a noble example, using leadership for constructive purposes, and channeling resources toward worthwhile goals.
Find out more about Aries in my article, Aries Time: Face Who You Really Are. Also, you can tune in to this sign’s bold, take charge energies with The Aries Meditation, an uplifting, guided meditation.
For you, Capricorn, planets in Aries always activate your fourth house of home and family, sparking desires to improve your current space, move to a different place, or invest in real estate as well as see to a parent’s well being, care for loved ones, and build security through enjoying your home base. All the Aries planets will invigorate your home life, energize family members, and increase your wish and energy to create a happy and loving home life and reflect on your lineage through ancestry.
Your Children, Creativity, And Romance
On April 19, the Sun leaves Aries for Taurus, which will start the month of the Bull. You’ll feel the energies shift away from the fiery, take charge power of Aries to the earthy, steady world of Taurus. This annual change brings needed calm after Aries and its high octane rush.
For you, Capricorn, planets in Taurus stabilize your relationships with children and your creativity because they put earthy practicality and focus into your fifth house of youngsters (and your inner child), fertility, and creative talents you express through the arts or a hobby. This area also governs how you take risks, such as in a new romance or investments in stocks. As soon as the Sun enters Taurus, you may seek more pleasure in life by playing with your children, romancing your partner or seeking a new love if you’re unattached, or starting a major arts project.
Mercury Retrograde Ends
Last month, our solar system’s smallest planet, Mercury, went retrograde, which it generally does three times annually for about three weeks at a time. As April begins, Mercury remains retrograde.
The retrograde will end on April 15.
Until then, avoid starting anything new, and don’t sign contracts because you won’t have all the facts. Remain flexible and slow down even though the Aries powers this month (including Mercury in Aries) are pushing you to get going.
Instead, turn the Aries forces inward by working on your spirituality and meditating. Reflect on how the retrograde has affected you and your life and how well you’ve managed any surprises or challenges it has brought. Or direct the retrograde energies outward to anything “re”: review, redo, rethink, recycle, reverse, restore, repair, reconnect, and so on.

Volatile Energies – Proceed With Caution
The Sun entered Aries last month on March 20 and remains there until April 19.
Aries brings the power needed to birth the new. Imagine the force required for a seed to sprout or a chick to break out of its shell. Or the effort needed for a new business to take hold or a new fitness regimen to become a habit.
Aries and its fiery ruler, Mars, drive us to move quickly and make things happen. They can help us compete and accomplish what seems impossible.
Yet their powers can be explosive and dangerous, as when a child too young to understand fire plays with matches or gets too close to a hot stove. As a result, as beneficial as Aries time can be, it also is associated with violent incidents throughout history.
Find out more about this pattern related to Aries time in my article, Aries And A History Of Violence.
In addition, several planets currently sit in Capricorn (including Aries’s fiery ruler, Mars). That means they are challenging all the planets now in Aries and raising the stakes. These alignments can create great good if we use them wisely to turn a corner on major problems.
The movement of Chiron, the healing asteroid, into Aries on April 17 can help us overcome the negative expressions of Aries. Chiron will move through this sign for seven years, helping us come to terms with impulsiveness, violence, inappropriate risks, and all other misuses of Aries energy.
Throughout this month, stay aware of this potential so you can avoid serious mistakes and help others do the same. Also, remember your ability to serve as a force for peace and a nurturing presence. The new and full Moons this month will bring particularly high energies, making them good times to focus on spirituality and the highest good and best outcome for all.
A New Era Coming In May – How To Get Ready
Seven years ago, Uranus left Pisces for Aries on March 11, 2011.
Uranus is the Great Awakener, the liberator, the planet that forces us to evolve by bringing sudden change as well as lightning flashes of inspiration. It helps us tap our genius so we can direct it toward helping others.
Its time in Aries has brought great challenges, especially from 2012 through 2015. In those years, Uranus made seven difficult alignments with Pluto in Capricorn. All of us felt powerful forces urging us to overcome obstacles, turn a corner on longstanding problems, and reinvent ourselves and our lives. We also saw these pressures on the world stage, manifesting many changes.
For you, Capricorn, Uranus in Aries may have brought shakeups in your family, home, parents’ or other loved ones’ lives, real estate holdings, ancestry records, or deep spirituality and security. The connections with Pluto in Capricorn affected your health, personality, or personal projects as well.
Think back over the past seven years. How has your life changed? What have you overcome? And how have you freed yourself and struck out in bold and visionary directions?
Also, consider how much the world has changed since 2011.
This month, reflect on all that’s happened for you, your friends and family, all humanity, and our planet. Honor how much you’ve learned, achieved, and grown.
Accept any mistakes and missteps and make peace with who you’ve become so you’re ready to move on to a new stage because the Uranus in Aries era will end next month, on May 15. That’s the day Uranus heads into earthy Taurus and brings changes to all things associated with the Bull.
Next month’s horoscope will give you more details on this momentous shift. For now, get ready by looking back on the last seven years so you can gain valuable perspective and get ideas on how you want to shape the coming seven years.
Plan Your Month: Important Dates In April
This month brings several key dates to watch as you plan your month. Mark your calendar and take action (or rest) as recommended on the dates listed here so your efforts can bring progress in all areas of your life.
April 1: A stressful full Moon on March 31 may continue to reverberate, so continue spiritual efforts based on whatever came up for you. Also, retrograde Mercury joins with the Sun in your fourth house of home and family. Look back at your family life and ancestry as well as all the places you’ve lived; see if you’ve left anyone or any place behind that still has interest or value to you now.
April 2: Mars and Saturn, your ruler, come together in your personality house, bringing new vibrance to your image and movements. Others may admire your energy and stronger leadership, and strangers will rightly see you as the VIP you are.
April 7: Venus in your fifth house of pleasure connects well with Saturn in your personal house. A project highly important and meaningful to you will benefit from the joy and creative flair you pour into it or from help given by a child or artist pal.
April 10: The Sun in your family house challenges Pluto in your personality area. Avoid dominating family discussions or imposing your will in a home or real estate question. Put off any sensitive topics for another day. Instead, focus on adjusting your personality and character to channel power and authority in constructive and creative ways, perhaps by recalling your inner child or pastimes you once enjoyed, as Mars in your area of self connects harmoniously with Venus in your pleasure house.
April 12: Venus in your house of children links lovingly with Neptune in your communication and sibling house. Organize a family outing that includes your brothers and sisters with your children or apply compassion in a conversation with a child.
April 12 – 15: The Moon enters its balsamic phase, the "dark of the Moon" time before the new Moon. Slow down and review the past month since the new Moon that arrived on March 17. Meditate, rest, and reflect on what you want to do in the coming month. Find out more about this mysterious monthly time in my Balsamic Moon Phase article. Also, this period is excellent for spiritual work, meditation, and prayer. See my article on How To Relieve Stress – Meditate At The Right Time for details.
April 14: A helpful connection between Jupiter in your friendship and fundraising house and Pluto in your personal projects area may ignite desires to help a cause by organizing an event with your best friend. Mars, also in your projects house, makes the same connection to Neptune in your communication house, driving you to make a heartfelt appeal for support for your favorite charity through a speech, letter, email, or publicity campaign.
April 15: A big day. The new Moon in Aries (and the two weeks following, until the next full Moon) normally would supply your best time all year for starting home renovations or a real estate search or closing. Yet Mercury ends its retrograde this day, an often stormy time that can come with surprise technical or communication issues needing resolution. Uranus sitting very close to this new Moon suggests other unforeseen developments, and four planets in Aries spar with three heavy hitters in your personality and health area. So expect the unexpected, see what comes to a head, and wait at least two days to start anything new. See my article, Mercury Retrograde Dates, Advice, for additional guidance.
April 16: Venus in your children area will face off with Jupiter across the sky in your friendship house. Your loyalties may feel split between a friend’s need for your time and a child’s wish to spend time with you. You will benefit from reflecting on your priorities and creating realistic plans and strategies to manage time so you can enjoy all your life’s relationships and pleasures. Wait to make final decisions and reassure all those you love of their importance in your life. Consider hiring someone to help watch children occasionally to give you time for friends.
April 17: Venus connects harmoniously with Pluto in your personality house, giving your image an attractive and playful aura that could turn heads or inspire others through your powerfully creative approach to wardrobe or makeup.
April 18: The Sun in Aries moves to an exact alignment with Uranus in the same sign. The spotlight will shine on your home and family and could bring a sudden opportunity to make progress in improving your home or moving. You also may feel like calling a parent or arranging a day off to visit a beloved relative.
April 19: The Sun enters Taurus. Pause and see if you can feel the shift from fiery, action oriented Aries to earthy, comfortable Taurus.
April 23: Mars in your house of the body links helpfully with Jupiter in your networking house. A business associate may challenge you to enter a charitable race or other test of physical prowess, or your attractive energy may win you new and lucrative work contacts.
April 24: Venus moves into Gemini in your sixth house of health, work, and daily living. Caring for your health will get easier and more pleasurable now, perhaps through taking a yoga class or a gourmet cooking lesson, and your relations with coworkers can become sweeter, too.
April 26: Mars meets Pluto in your house of the body and health, giving you tremendous stamina to launch a pet personal project or begin a workout regimen to achieve your personal best.
April 29: The Sun nods fondly to your ruler, Saturn, in your house of personality and public image, giving you a reassuring stability that comforts others. Also, a full Moon in Scorpio lights your eleventh house of clubs, associations, networking, and volunteering. Something related to your memberships, a business mixer or other event, or a charity initiative may peak around this time, and you may realize you need to make changes. Balance mingling and club duties with time for personal creativity, sports, or hobbies so your life feels well rounded. This day (and the day before and day after) favor spiritual work: plan time for meditation and prayer. See my article on How To Relieve Stress – Meditate At The Right Time for details.
