May Astrology – Headline News
Your Money, Possessions, And Values
As May begins, we have just one planet in Taurus, the warm and powerful Sun, who always shines his light freely and generously to bring joy and optimism to our world.
On May 13, Mercury will join the Sun in Taurus, followed by Uranus on May 15. These three will dominate Taurus until May 20, when the Sun changes signs.
Taurus is an earth sign symbolized by the Bull, a large and calm creature who is peacefully at home in nature until provoked or placed in unfamiliar or stressful surroundings. Then it shows its temper, becoming agitated or even aggressive and potentially dangerous. The Taurus Bull reminds us we need to take it easy at times, enjoy socializing, and spend time in nature. It also teaches how something new can create stress and how easily tempers can flare when people feel forced to change. For these reasons, Taurus inspires us to seek comfort, especially when under stress or going through a significant change so we can remain sweet-tempered.
Find out more about Taurus in my article, Taurus Time: Ground Yourself Even As The World Changes. Also, you can tune in to this sign’s calm contentment and deep loyalty with The Taurus Meditation, an uplifting guided meditation.
For you, Aries, planets in Taurus always activate your second house of values, personal finances and budgets, and possessions. The Taurus planets can help solidify your money situation and make you more practical about how you earn, spend, and save. Paradoxically, they also may inspire you to shop because Taurus loves art, beauty, and shiny baubles not only for their ability to dress up your home or personal style but because their monetary value makes them assets that increase financial security.
Your Communication, Travel, And Siblings
On May 20, the Sun leaves Taurus for Gemini, which will start the month of the Twins. You’ll feel the energies shift away from the earthy, steady, loyal power of Taurus to the airy, playful, curious world of Gemini. This annual change brings a refreshing breeziness after Taurus and its tendency to stay home, sit still, and indulge its senses.
For you, Aries, planets in Gemini revitalize your energy because they put airy chattiness and a desire to be on the go into your third house of communication, travel, and early education. This area also governs your brothers and sisters and how you interact with them. As soon as the Sun enters Gemini, you may feel inspired to jumpstart a communication project, research a trip you want to take, or call your siblings to plan an outing together.
Jupiter In Scorpio: Halfway Point Review
Since October 10, 2017, Jupiter has been traveling through Scorpio.
Jupiter spends 13 months in each sign, giving us a special annual theme to help focus our attention. So we’re about halfway through this cycle, making this month a perfect time to look back on how we’re doing with our current Jupiter assignment.
As the biggest planet in our solar system, Jupiter is associated with abundance, affluence, and even extravagance. Wherever Jupiter is located, we find expansion, protection, nobility, and leadership. Often, these benefits come through Jupiter’s favorite subjects: foreign people and places, overseas travel, higher education, philosophy, and large scale media (such as publishing). All these expand our horizons and our consciousness.
In Scorpio, Jupiter is taking us deep within to heal and regenerate (or release) whatever must change. It’s also helping us explore secrets, hidden passions, and spirituality as well as see the global problems that need compassion and fixing.
How well are you doing in these areas? What remains for you to explore and improve? Are you blocking abundance or joy by being stingy or judgmental?
For you, Aries, this is a great time to take a good look at money, especially funds you share with your marriage partner and any business partners.

A New Era Arrives
After seven years in Aries, the Great Awakener, Uranus, moves into earthy Taurus on May 15.
This is a major change that signals a new era for all of us. Before May 15, be sure to look back at what’s happened in your life and the world since March 2011 to honor how far you’ve come since then. See your horoscope from last month in our horoscope archives for recommendations on how to put the Uranus in Aries era into perspective so you’ll be ready for the changes starting on May 15.
Uranus is associated with electricity, lightning, and wild weather as well as genius and brilliance that come as lightning flashes of inspiration. It also brings a powerfully disruptive or even rebellious energy designed to help us change—and fast—as well as free ourselves and others and let go of the past. It carries a knack for mechanics, aeronautics, and electronics as well as anything high tech, futuristic, or visionary, from outer space and psychic research to astrology, inventions, miracles, and discoveries.
This revolutionary planet may be somewhat uncomfortable in practical Taurus, which likes tradition and resists change because it wants security. For example, Taurus rules nearly everything related to money such as cash, checkbooks, banks and bankers, profits, borrowing and spending, securities and stocks, treasuries, and financiers.
Taurus also governs cattle, copper, jewelry, art, and possessions in general. In addition, it is associated with beauty, both artistic and personal through adornment, and our response to beauty, culture, and the arts. It’s especially fond of music, singing, and sculpture.
All these areas will be ripe for change under Uranus’s watch. At the same time, however, Taurus’s energies will help us ground Uranus’s lightning bolts of genius into workable plans and simplified systems that make life easier, more comfortable, and more beautiful. That steadying force will bring some relief after Uranus’s seven years in Aries, famous for its new beginnings, which brought us a dizzying pace of technological change, countless business startups, and constant change in personal identity for many people as they tried new images and careers over and over again.
For you, Aries, having Uranus in Taurus will bring change related to money because it affects your second house of personal finances. You may see sudden opportunities you’ll have to seize quickly to improve your income, balance your budget, or borrow needed capital.
You also may have brilliant ideas for better organizing your assets or organizing your possessions so they serve you instead of enslaving you. Uranus also may inspire you to collect unusual art or futuristic objects or to install a high tech system to protect your home and valuables.
This seven year period also will change your values, and with Uranus involved, you’ll likely have sudden flashes of insight that force you to align your earning with spiritual values. Old perspectives won’t work anymore, so open yourself to reforming your material life. At the same time, you may feel increasingly drawn to helping others, particularly through charitable work, donating possessions, or giving part of your income to assist a worthy cause.
For an in depth look at Uranus in Taurus and how it affects you (and how you can make the most of it), see my article, Uranus In Taurus. It includes a look back at the past seven years of Uranus in Aries as well as an explanation of how Uranus in Taurus is likely to manifest and details for every zodiac sign and how it will be affected by this major shift.
Plan Your Month: Important Dates In May
This month brings several key dates to watch as you plan your month. Mark your calendar and take action (or rest) as recommended on the dates listed here so your efforts can bring progress in all areas.
May 1: May Day, an ancient springtime celebration in the northern hemisphere and in modern times a day to honor labor and workers. Both themes harmonize with Taurus energies, so make the day festive for yourself in some way and give thanks for nature and its beauty.
May 2: The Sun in your earned income house makes a helpful link with Neptune in your spirituality house, bringing otherworldly insights about your material life. Meditate on how your possessions support your inner life and spiritual mission in this incarnation.
May 7: Mercury in Aries challenges Pluto in your career house, and Venus in your communication house tangles with Neptune. Exercise care in all communications, as tempers could flare or others may mislead you or leave out critical information. Put off sensitive discussions and keep a low profile around VIPs; forge ahead solo on your projects.
May 8: The Sun in your earned income area faces off against Jupiter in your joint finance house. Money concerns may come to a head, giving you clarity or a breakthrough. You may learn vital details related to insurance or a mortgage, alimony, or child support.
May 11: The Sun in your values house nods kindly at Pluto in your career house, giving you a chance to sync leadership with core personal values. This alignment also could bring favor from bosses or mentors and potential gain through a promotion or raise.
May 11 – 15: The Moon enters its balsamic phase, the “dark of the Moon” time before the new Moon. Slow down and review the past month since the new Moon that arrived on April 15. Meditate, rest, and reflect on what you want to do in the coming month. Find out more about this mysterious monthly time in my Balsamic Moon Phase article. Also, this period is excellent for spiritual work, meditation, and prayer. See my article on How To Relieve Stress – Meditate At The Right Time for details.
May 12: Mercury in your house of personality makes a difficult alignment with your ruler, Mars, in your leadership house. A run-in with someone could rub you the wrong way or lead to sparks. Avoid aggression or anger, as others won’t be receptive to forceful communications. Put off important conversations and focus your energies on completing necessary tasks.
May 13: Mercury dances with Uranus in Aries before heading into placid Taurus. You may have a dazzling insight about reinventing your image or find yourself sharing an out of the blue idea that others call ingenious. Close your day with loving conversation or a meditative walk in nature to settle your mind.
May 15: A big day, with a new Moon in Taurus. Also, Uranus moves into Taurus for the next seven years, and Mars changes signs, too, entering Aquarius and lighting up your friendship and networking area. The next two weeks bring your best time all year to begin improving your income by seeking a new job, taking on extra assignments or clients, managing current assets better, or streamlining possessions. With Uranus in this same area, money changes are in store, and you can leverage them into opportunities if you allow intuition to guide you.
May 16: Mars, your ruler, in your friendship, clubs, and charities house challenges Uranus in your house of earned income and values. Wait until the end of May to tap business associates and friends for favors or networking advice, and put off charitable contributions or club membership applications until then as well.
May 18: Mercury in your income house makes a harmonious angle to Saturn in your career house, bringing favor from the top brass. Someone may ask you to lead an important project, or you may hear about a promotion or opportunity that boosts your bottom line. A community leader might seek your valuable advice, request donations, or recommend you run for office.
May 19: Venus enters Cancer in your house of home and family and links helpfully to Uranus. If you find the perfect painting or an unusual art object for your home, buy it now, as your sixth sense will steer you well.
May 20: The Sun leaves Taurus for Gemini, energizing your third house of communication, short trips, and siblings. Research an article, plan a publicity campaign, or call a brother or sister. Enjoy the next month’s breezy, chatty energies.
May 22: Mercury in your personal money house connects subtly with Neptune and faces off against Jupiter in your shared resources area. Idealism about spending or budgets may collide with fiscal reality. Use discernment in discussions about money, insurance, and inheritance issues and wait to put anything in writing so you can gain clarity.
May 23: The Sun in your sibling house waves enthusiastically to your ruler, Mars, in your group activities and charity house. Invite brothers and sisters to a fundraiser or business mixer or introduce a business associate to an eligible sibling.
May 25: Jupiter and Neptune link across the sky, highlighting deep spirituality and your soul’s destiny. Also, Saturn in your career house communicates clearly with Mercury in your earned income area but challenges Venus in your home and family house. A writing project or other work obligation may take time away from support you need to offer a relative. Balance work and family as best you can and heed your soul’s guidance to make it all work out.
May 29: Another busy day, as Mercury moves into Gemini, one of the signs it rules, in your house of communication and siblings. Expect many more chats with brothers and sisters, and your mind will be on fire with ideas for talking, writing, researching, and learning. Also, the full Moon arrives in your international and education house, inspiring you to plan an overseas adventure or apply to a degree program. If you’re working on immigration or visa concerns, you may see a major development now. This day (and the day before and day after) favor spiritual work: plan time for meditation and prayer.
