March Astrology – Headline News
Your Friends, Clubs, And Volunteer Activities
As March begins, we have four planets in Pisces:
- The warm and powerful Sun, who always shines his light freely and generously to bring joy and optimism to our world
- Mercury, who governs thinking, communication, and commerce and brings playfulness and curiosity wherever he goes
- Venus, who governs love, beauty, and relationships—as well as money—and brings grace and sophistication to whatever she touches
- Neptune, who rules Pisces and governs dreams, the arts, and transcendent spirituality—and brings compassion, sensitivity, and an otherworldly quality to our lives
We also have a fifth player in Pisces, an asteroid called Chiron who is associated with where we feel wounded and how we heal and then help others based on our experiences. Chiron is well placed in Pisces, which is one of the signs associated with health.
Pisces is a water sign symbolized by the Fish: two fish swimming in opposite directions while bound together. Pisces helps us go beyond our individuality by enabling spiritual attunement, higher consciousness, and merging with creation’s essential unity. This gentle, sensitive sign allows us to sense higher truths through dreams and intuition. It also encourages us to apply these truths to help others through selfless service as well as inspire them through the arts, fantasy and other escapes from everyday life, and spiritual practices such as meditation.

For you, Taurus, Pisces always activates your eleventh house of friendship, clubs and group events, networking, and humanitarian interests. All the Pisces planets will inspire new desires to spend time with friends, meet new people at conferences and other business events, and tune in to your hopes and dreams about how to make the world a better place.
Your Health And Spirituality
On March 5, Mercury will leave Pisces for Aries, followed by Venus’s entry into Aries on March 6. You’ll begin to feel the energies shift away from the watery, emotional realm of Pisces toward the fiery, "let’s get going" arena of Aries. On March 20, the Sun leaves Pisces for Aries, giving us the official start to the month of the Ram.
For you, Taurus, planets in Aries power up your spiritual life and desire for good health because they put fiery passion into your twelfth house of health, psychology, and your deepest, most private self—your inner self. This area also governs projects you work on behind the scenes: as soon as the Sun enters Aries, you may feel an urge to start something you will launch later this year.
Equinox: Happy New (Spiritual And Astrological) Year!
The third week of March not only starts a new astrological month and sign but brings a new season: spring in the northern hemisphere and fall in the southern hemisphere.
Both seasons start when the amount of daylight equals the amount of darkness, making day and night last the same amount of time. Their start days come when the Sun enters Aries and when it enters the opposite sign, Libra, and are called the equinoxes. Both equinoxes offer special energies that support spirituality and meditation.
Aries, however, brings yet another gift: as the first sign of the zodiac, it starts the astrological year. According to sages and mystics, Aries also starts a new spiritual year. That makes March 20 even more powerful and important, and you can use its energies to create a new start for yourself.
Mercury Retrograde: Slow Down, Focus On "Re," Stay Flexible
Two days later, on March 22, our solar system’s smallest planet, Mercury, goes retrograde for three weeks, until April 15. From our vantage point on Earth, it will look like Mercury is moving backwards in the sky. Although it won’t actually be moving in reverse, this Mercury retrograde period will feel like all that is associated with Mercury will be in low gear or moving backwards.
Mercury rules everything related to communication, from computers and cell phones to speaking, writing, and listening. It also governs anything with moving parts, such as electronics, cars, and appliances.
When Mercury goes retrograde, generally three times a year for three weeks at a time, the areas it rules also slow down and often experience challenges.
This retrograde occurs in Aries, a fire sign that can be impulsive and impatient because it wants to go, go, GO! So we’ll feel a "push-pull" quality of wanting to keep pushing forward yet not being able to make much progress because communication and equipment may slow, break down, or pull us back to review past projects or problems.
Prepare now by backing up your computer and other devices and updating software in the first week of March. After that, you’ll begin to feel the slowdown and may see issues arise with equipment or interactions with other people.
During the retrograde, allow yourself to slow down. Avoid starting anything new, and don’t sign contracts because you won’t have all the facts or will miss something critical and have to rework the agreement later.
Instead, focus on anything "re": review, redo, rethink, recycle, reverse, restore, and so on. This is an excellent time to dust off a past project or idea and see what you can make of it. It’s also the perfect time to contact people from the past, clean closets, polish current work, or return to anything—or anywhere—you once enjoyed.

Plan Your Month: Important Dates
This month brings several key dates to watch as you plan your month. Mark your calendar and take action (or rest) as recommended on the dates listed here so your efforts can bring progress in all areas of your life.
March 1: A full Moon in Virgo lights your fifth house of creativity, performance, children, romance, and play. Something will peak around this time for you or one of your children, and you may realize you need to improve how you relate to children, adjust a creative project, or see your romantic life differently. Balance time with young people with time for your friends and business associates so your life feels well rounded and supports excellent relationships with people of all ages. This day (and the day before and day after) favor spiritual work: plan time for meditation and prayer. See my article on How To Relieve Stress – Meditate At The Right Time for details.
March 2: Mercury in your charitable eleventh house forms a harmonious angle with Jupiter in your seventh house of marriage, partnerships, and agreements. Bring your spouse or business partner to a networking event, an outing with friends, or a charity event, as everyone will have fun together.
March 4: The Sun joins with Neptune and Mercury merges with your ruler, Venus, all in your humanitarian eleventh house. Consider how your volunteer activities help express higher spiritual love, pay attention to inspiration from dreams or intuition, and devote time to serving others.
March 5 and 6: Mercury and Venus leave Pisces for Aries. Feel your thoughts and emotions begin to shift from introspection to outward action.
March 8: Jupiter goes retrograde until July 10. This giant, optimistic planet entered Scorpio on October 10, 2017, bringing expansion to your house of marriage, partnerships, and agreements. Perhaps you married since then, or you may have hired a jovial new business advisor or signed an important contract. With the retrograde, you have four months to review your closest partnerships, give thanks for how they support and nurture you, and consider changes or improvements if needed.
March 11: Mars makes a helpful angle with Uranus in Aries, while the Sun nods benevolently to Pluto. Taking initiative spiritually can deepen your inner life dramatically, and powerful academic or international connections may help you make new contacts or support a charitable cause dear to your heart.
March 13: The Sun in your social and charitable eleventh house links to Jupiter in your partnership house, inspiring you and a partner to volunteer or donate generously to a fundraiser or allowing you to introduce a business associate to your spouse.
March 13 – 17: The Moon enters its balsamic phase, the "dark of the Moon" time before the new Moon. Slow down, review the past month since the new Moon of February 15, and enjoy a bit of daydreaming about what you want to do in the coming month. Find out more about this mysterious monthly time in my Balsamic Moon Phase article. Also, this period is excellent for spiritual work, meditation, and prayer. See my article on How To Relieve Stress – Meditate At The Right Time for details.
March 17: A new Moon in Pisces brings your best time all year to start a networking campaign, join groups or clubs to make new friends, or start a project for your favorite charity. Also, Mars leaves expansive Sagittarius for earthy Capricorn in your international and education house, firing up your desire to travel or earn a degree and giving you the energy to resolve an immigration or visa matter, apply to a university or defend a dissertation, or launch a major publicity campaign.
March 20: The Sun enters Aries, bringing a new astrological month, a new season, the spring equinox (fall equinox in the southern hemisphere), and a new spiritual year. Make time to meditate on this highly significant day and feel the joyful energy of new beginnings as the Sun lights up Aries. This "power day" offers natural energies supporting spiritual work and planning for the year ahead.
March 22: Mercury goes retrograde in Aries. Use your powerful thoughts to overcome impatience and let yourself slow down, assess your health and any needed improvements, review your spiritual progress, and work on an important project secretly so it will shine when you launch it. Wait until April 17 or later to sign contracts or start anything new. Get details on making the most of this period in my Mercury Retrograde Dates, Advice article.
March 23 and 24: Your ruler, Venus, and the Sun in Aries make difficult alignments with Pluto and Mars in your international, education, and publishing house. Your desire for solitude and rest may feel at odds with demands from older or powerful people to complete a project behind the scenes or to clear up an immigration or visa concern. Keep a low profile and avoid disputes or making assumptions. If a project hits snags, take a break to clear your head, and if someone challenges you, remain calm and request time to gather facts before responding.
March 28: Your ruler, Venus, links happily with Uranus in Aries. Your intuition will be supercharged, especially about a creative project or relationship. Heed inner guidance, pay attention to dreams, and make time for meditation.
March 30: Your ruler, Venus, leaves Aries for your sign, Taurus. Others will notice your beauty, and your magnetic personality will charm and attract new admirers. Update your image with a new hairstyle or shop for flattering new clothes.
March 31: A second full Moon this month arrives, this time in Libra. Something related to your health, job, or everyday life management will peak and give you clarity. This full Moon makes stressful alignments with several planets in your international and education house as well as the Sun and Mercury in your spirituality and health house. Be cautious with these volatile energies, as hasty speech or actions could affect your job, travel, an international or education project, or your health. Time with brothers and sisters, journaling or creative writing, or a short trip to a beloved childhood spot can act as safety valves to channel these powerful energies constructively. Also, remember that full Moons (and the day before and day after) favor spiritual work, so plan time for meditation and prayer.
As you can see, March is filled with high contrast—and wave after wave of high energies. Use the guidance here to ride this month’s waves so you can reach April’s shore with pride in how you handled March’s challenges and made the most of its many opportunities.
Happy March, Taurus! I wish you a wonderful month!
