March Astrology – Headline News
Your Finances And Spiritual Life
As March begins, we have four planets in Pisces:
- The warm and powerful Sun, who always shines his light freely and generously to bring joy and optimism to our world
- Mercury, who governs thinking, communication, and commerce and brings playfulness and curiosity wherever he goes
- Venus, who governs love, beauty, and relationships—as well as money—and brings grace and sophistication to whatever she touches
- Neptune, who rules Pisces and governs dreams, the arts, and transcendent spirituality—and brings compassion, sensitivity, and an otherworldly quality to our lives
We also have a fifth player in Pisces, an asteroid called Chiron who is associated with where we feel wounded and how we heal and then help others based on our experiences. Chiron is well placed in Pisces, which is one of the signs associated with health.
Pisces is a water sign symbolized by the Fish: two fish swimming in opposite directions while bound together. Pisces helps us go beyond our individuality by enabling spiritual attunement, higher consciousness, and merging with creation’s essential unity. This gentle, sensitive sign allows us to sense higher truths through dreams and intuition. It also encourages us to apply these truths to help others through selfless service as well as inspire them through the arts, fantasy and other escapes from everyday life, and spiritual practices such as meditation.
Find out more about Pisces in my article, Pisces Time: Trust Your Intuition. Also, you can tune in to this sign’s helpful, healing energies with The Pisces Meditation, an uplifting, guided meditation.
For you, Leo, Pisces always activates your eighth house of shared finances such as venture capital or loans, mortgages, commissions or bonuses, and inheritance as well as your inner connection to life’s great mysteries. All the Pisces planets will inspire new solutions to child support or alimony concerns, insurance and mortgage questions, and will or probate matters and lead you to explore the mysteries of birth, life, death, and sexuality.
Your Expansion And Tolerance
On March 5, Mercury will leave Pisces for Aries, followed by Venus’s entry into Aries on March 6. You’ll begin to feel the energies shift away from the watery, emotional realm of Pisces toward the fiery, "let’s get going" arena of Aries. On March 20, your ruler, the Sun, leaves Pisces for Aries, giving us the official start to the month of the Ram.
For you, Leo, planets in Aries spark change in your desire to expand your life on all planes because they put fiery passion into your ninth house of higher education, travel, and all people and things international. This area also governs faith, beliefs, and philosophy: as soon as the Sun enters Aries, you may feel an urge to question long held beliefs or examine your faith to ensure you walk your talk and hold tolerance for others.
Equinox: Happy New (Spiritual And Astrological) Year!
The third week of March not only starts a new astrological month and sign but brings a new season: spring in the northern hemisphere and fall in the southern hemisphere.
Both seasons start when the amount of daylight equals the amount of darkness, making day and night last the same amount of time. Their start days come when your ruler, the Sun, enters Aries and when it enters the opposite sign, Libra, and are called the equinoxes. Both equinoxes offer special energies that support spirituality and meditation.
Aries, however, brings yet another gift: as the first sign of the zodiac, it starts the astrological year. According to sages and mystics, Aries also starts a new spiritual year. That makes March 20 even more powerful and important, and you can use its energies to create a new start for yourself.
Mercury Retrograde: Slow Down, Focus On "Re," Stay Flexible
Two days later, on March 22, our solar system’s smallest planet, Mercury, goes retrograde for three weeks, until April 15. From our vantage point on Earth, it will look like Mercury is moving backwards in the sky. Although it won’t actually be moving in reverse, this Mercury retrograde period will feel like all that is associated with Mercury will be in low gear or moving backwards.
Mercury rules everything related to communication, from computers and cell phones to speaking, writing, and listening. It also governs anything with moving parts, such as electronics, cars, and appliances.
When Mercury goes retrograde, generally three times a year for three weeks at a time, the areas it rules also slow down and often experience challenges.
This retrograde occurs in Aries, a fire sign that can be impulsive and impatient because it wants to go, go, GO! So we’ll feel a "push-pull" quality of wanting to keep pushing forward yet not being able to make much progress because communication and equipment may slow, break down, or pull us back to review past projects or problems.
Prepare now by backing up your computer and other devices and updating software in the first week of March. After that, you’ll begin to feel the slowdown and may see issues arise with equipment or interactions with other people.
During the retrograde, allow yourself to slow down. Avoid starting anything new, and don’t sign contracts because you won’t have all the facts or will miss something critical and have to rework the agreement later.
Instead, focus on anything "re": review, redo, rethink, recycle, reverse, restore, and so on. This is an excellent time to dust off a past project or idea and see what you can make of it. It’s also the perfect time to contact people from the past, clean closets, polish current work, or return to anything—or anywhere—you once enjoyed.

Plan Your Month: Important Dates
This month brings several key dates to watch as you plan your month. Mark your calendar and take action (or rest) as recommended on the dates listed here so your efforts can bring progress in all areas of your life.
March 1: A full Moon in Virgo lights your second house of earned income, possessions, and values. Something will peak around this time for your job or the things you own, and you may realize you must change your work to align with your deepest values, let go of belongings you no longer need, or sell valuables or collectibles to free up cash for something else. Balance your focus on material concerns with time for your inner life, especially meditation or spiritual studies, so your outer life feels well grounded in your highest ideals. This day (and the day before and day after) favor spiritual work: plan time for meditation and prayer. See my article on How To Relieve Stress – Meditate At The Right Time for details.
March 2: Mercury in your mystical eighth house forms a harmonious angle with Jupiter in your fourth house of home, family, and real estate. Design and decorate a personal altar, dedicate a place in your home to regular meditation, or explore your roots with a genealogical project or by conserving heirlooms handed down by ancestors.
March 4: Your ruler, the Sun, joins with Neptune and Mercury merges with Venus, all in your introspective eighth house. Meditate on what higher spiritual love means for you, pay attention to whisperings of your soul through dreams or intuition, and reflect on how well your work life reflects your spiritual values.
March 5 and 6: Mercury and Venus leave Pisces for Aries. Feel your thoughts and emotions begin to shift from introspection to outward action.
March 8: Jupiter goes retrograde until July 10. This giant, optimistic planet entered Scorpio on October 10, 2017, bringing expansion to your house of home, family, heritage, and property. Perhaps you moved since then or invited a parent or relative to live with you, or you may have hired a jovial realtor or contractor or built an addition on your house. With the retrograde, you have four months to review your home and how well it serves you and your family as well as your feelings about material security and relationships with family—including those who have passed on. Give thanks for what you have even as you consider changes or improvements.
March 11: Mars makes a helpful angle with Uranus in Aries, while the Sun nods benevolently to Pluto. A new romance may begin or love may sparkle more in your marriage, a creative project can expand your life and may lead to international attention, or a child go abroad for study. Also, powerful colleagues may help you secure a mortgage or resolve a financial concern.
March 13: The Sun, your ruler, in your joint finance house links to Jupiter in your house of home and family, inspiring family discussions about money, perhaps related to how you want to spend an inheritance, commission, or bonus.
March 13 – 17: The Moon enters its balsamic phase, the "dark of the Moon" time before the new Moon. Slow down, review the past month since the new Moon of February 15, and enjoy a bit of daydreaming about what you want to do in the coming month. Find out more about this mysterious monthly time in my Balsamic Moon Phase article. Also, this period is excellent for spiritual work, meditation, and prayer. See my article on How To Relieve Stress – Meditate At The Right Time for details.
March 17: A new Moon in Pisces brings your best time all year to seek answers to deep spiritual questions such as the meaning of life, the mysteries of life after death, and the spiritual nature of physical love. Start meditating or deepen your practice, explore prayer, or educate yourself about sexuality. Also, Mars leaves expansive Sagittarius for earthy Capricorn in your health and work house, firing up your desire to get fit, eat more healthfully, tackle ambitious work projects, and train your mind to focus on constructive thoughts.
March 20: Your ruler, the Sun, enters Aries, bringing a new astrological month, a new season, the spring equinox (fall equinox in the southern hemisphere), and a new spiritual year. Make time to meditate on this highly significant day and feel the joyful energy of new beginnings as the Sun lights up Aries. This "power day" offers natural energies supporting spiritual work and planning for the year ahead.
March 22: Mercury goes retrograde in Aries. Use your powerful thoughts to overcome impatience and let yourself slow down, assess your faith and beliefs, review your progress toward a degree or resolving an immigration concern, and improve a publishing or broadcasting project so it’s ready to launch after the retrograde. Wait until April 17 or later to sign contracts or start anything new. Get details on making the most of this period in my Mercury Retrograde Dates, Advice article.
March 23 and 24: Venus and the Sun in Aries make difficult alignments with Pluto and Mars in your job, health, and service house. Your desire for control or independence at work could put you at odds with vital international connections, or you may face obstacles if you’re also working toward a degree or trying to clear up a visa or immigration matter. Keep a low profile, avoid disputes, and put action on hold for a day or so if possible. If a project hits snags, take a break to clear your head, and if someone pressures you, remain calm and request time to gather facts before responding.
March 28: Venus links happily with Uranus in Aries. An international arts project could materialize and could bring financial good news, or you may have a creative brainstorm about how to resolve something related to higher education or an upcoming vacation.
March 30: Venus leaves Aries for Taurus. You will attract attention and admirers at work, and your ability to charm can enhance your career and may earn you honors, more money, or a promotion. Prepare to enter the spotlight by sprucing up your look and strengthening bonds with colleagues.
March 31: A second full Moon this month arrives, this time in Libra. Something related to siblings, communication, travel, or your community will peak and give you clarity. This full Moon makes stressful alignments with several planets in your work and health house as well as your ruler, the Sun, and Mercury in your international and publicity house. Be cautious with these volatile energies, as hasty speech or actions could affect your health, job, travel and immigration, relationships with brothers and sisters, communication projects, or education. Time alone to reflect or work on a project behind the scenes, meditation in a secluded and scenic place, or a spa getaway can act as safety valves to channel these powerful energies constructively. Also, remember that full Moons (and the day before and day after) favor spiritual work, so plan time for meditation and prayer.
As you can see, March is filled with high contrast—and wave after wave of high energies. Use the guidance here to ride this month’s waves so you can reach April’s shore with pride in how you handled March’s challenges and made the most of its many opportunities.
Happy March, Leo! I wish you a wonderful month!
