Your Committed Partnerships And Agreements
As March begins, we have four planets in Pisces:
- The warm and powerful Sun, who always shines his light freely and generously to bring joy and optimism to our world
- Mercury, who governs thinking, communication, and commerce and brings playfulness and curiosity wherever he goes
- Venus, who governs love, beauty, and relationships—as well as money—and brings grace and sophistication to whatever she touches
- Neptune, who rules Pisces and governs dreams, the arts, and transcendent spirituality—and brings compassion, sensitivity, and an otherworldly quality to our lives
We also have a fifth player in Pisces, an asteroid called Chiron who is associated with where we feel wounded and how we heal and then help others based on our experiences. Chiron is well placed in Pisces, which is one of the signs associated with health.
Pisces is a water sign symbolized by the Fish: two fish swimming in opposite directions while bound together. Pisces helps us go beyond our individuality by enabling spiritual attunement, higher consciousness, and merging with creation’s essential unity. This gentle, sensitive sign allows us to sense higher truths through dreams and intuition. It also encourages us to apply these truths to help others through selfless service as well as inspire them through the arts, fantasy and other escapes from everyday life, and spiritual practices such as meditation.

For you, Virgo, Pisces always activates your seventh house of marriage and business partnerships with colleagues or agents as well as agreements and people who challenge you such as competitors. All the Pisces planets will turn your attention to your spouse or an important work partnership, inspiring you to to renew these relationships so they reflect your fondest dreams. You also may have hunches or insights that help overcome challenges posed by competitors.
Your Finances And Inner Self
On March 5, your ruler, Mercury, will leave Pisces for Aries, followed by Venus’s entry into Aries on March 6. You’ll begin to feel the energies shift away from the watery, emotional realm of Pisces toward the fiery, "let’s get going" arena of Aries. On March 20, the Sun leaves Pisces for Aries, giving us the official start to the month of the Ram.
For you, Virgo, planets in Aries empower you financially because they put fiery passion into your eighth house of loans, mortgages, alimony and child support, bonuses, and inheritances. This area also governs your inner self and what it can teach you about the great mysteries of birth, life, death, and sexuality: as soon as the Sun enters Aries, you may feel an urge to improve your finances or explore your inner life through meditation or spiritual studies.
Equinox: Happy New (Spiritual And Astrological) Year!
The third week of March not only starts a new astrological month and sign but brings a new season: spring in the northern hemisphere and fall in the southern hemisphere.
Both seasons start when the amount of daylight equals the amount of darkness, making day and night last the same amount of time. Their start days come when the Sun enters Aries and when it enters the opposite sign, Libra, and are called the equinoxes. Both equinoxes offer special energies that support spirituality and meditation.
Aries, however, brings yet another gift: as the first sign of the zodiac, it starts the astrological year. According to sages and mystics, Aries also starts a new spiritual year. That makes March 20 even more powerful and important, and you can use its energies to create a new start for yourself.
Mercury Retrograde: Slow Down, Focus On "Re," Stay Flexible
Two days later, on March 22, our solar system’s smallest planet, Mercury, goes retrograde for three weeks, until April 15. From our vantage point on Earth, it will look like Mercury is moving backwards in the sky. Although it won’t actually be moving in reverse, this Mercury retrograde period will feel like all that is associated with Mercury will be in low gear or moving backwards.
As a Virgo, you feel Mercury retrograde keenly because Mercury rules your sign. Do be gentle with yourself at this time. Turning inward for spiritual nourishment can help you overcome any fuzziness or frustrations.
Mercury rules everything related to communication, from computers and cell phones to speaking, writing, and listening. It also governs anything with moving parts, such as electronics, cars, and appliances.
When Mercury goes retrograde, generally three times a year for three weeks at a time, the areas it rules also slow down and often experience challenges.
This retrograde occurs in Aries, a fire sign that can be impulsive and impatient because it wants to go, go, GO! So we’ll feel a "push-pull" quality of wanting to keep pushing forward yet not being able to make much progress because communication and equipment may slow, break down, or pull us back to review past projects or problems.
Prepare now by backing up your computer and other devices and updating software in the first week of March. After that, you’ll begin to feel the slowdown and may see issues arise with equipment or interactions with other people.
During the retrograde, allow yourself to slow down. Avoid starting anything new, and don’t sign contracts because you won’t have all the facts or will miss something critical and have to rework the agreement later.
Instead, focus on anything "re": review, redo, rethink, recycle, reverse, restore, and so on. This is an excellent time to dust off a past project or idea and see what you can make of it. It’s also the perfect time to contact people from the past, clean closets, polish current work, or return to anything—or anywhere—you once enjoyed.

Plan Your Month: Important Dates
This month brings several key dates to watch as you plan your month. Mark your calendar and take action (or rest) as recommended on the dates listed here so your efforts can bring progress in all areas of your life.
March 1: A full Moon in your sign, Virgo, lights your first house of personality, health, and pet projects. Something will peak around this time for your health, image, or a cherished project, and you may realize you need to improve your habits or personality or streamline a project so it can succeed. Balance self-improvement with time for your spouse or another close partnership so others can enjoy the constructive changes you make and offer feedback for refinements. This day (and the day before and day after) favor spiritual work: plan time for meditation and prayer. See my article on How To Relieve Stress – Meditate At The Right Time for details.
March 2: Your ruler, Mercury, in your seventh house forms a harmonious angle with Jupiter in your third house of communication, siblings, and travel. Bring your spouse with you to visit a brother or sister or invite a partner to help with a communication project or negotiation.
March 4: The Sun joins with Neptune and Mercury merges with Venus, all in your loving seventh house. If you’re married, consider how your relationship fulfills your desire for spiritual connection as well as physical love and support. If you’re not married, dream about your ideal partner and pay attention to hunches about where you could meet someone like that—then get out and meet new people.
March 5 and 6: Mercury, your ruler, and Venus leave Pisces for Aries. Feel your thoughts and emotions begin to shift from introspection to outward action.
March 8: Jupiter goes retrograde until July 10. This giant, optimistic planet entered Scorpio on October 10, 2017, bringing expansion to your house of communication, community, brothers and sisters, and short trips. Perhaps you reconciled with an estranged sibling or reconnected with beloved cousins who live far away, or you may have begun a novel set in an exciting international locale or hired an expert to learn public speaking. With the retrograde, you have four months to review how you think and communicate, how well you get along with siblings, where and how you travel locally, and your vision for education and training. Consider changes or improvements if needed.
March 11: Mars makes a helpful angle with Uranus in Aries, while the Sun nods benevolently to Pluto. Taking initiative financially can improve a real estate matter, powerful creative connections may help you find an agent or advisor, or your partner may know someone who can help with a concern related to children.
March 13: The Sun in your seventh house of committed partnership links to Jupiter in your sibling and travel house, inspiring you and a partner to assist a brother or sister, take a short trip, or attend a lecture by an esteemed expert.
March 13 – 17: The Moon enters its balsamic phase, the "dark of the Moon" time before the new Moon. Slow down, review the past month since the new Moon of February 15, and enjoy a bit of daydreaming about what you want to do in the coming month. Find out more about this mysterious monthly time in my Balsamic Moon Phase article. Also, this period is excellent for spiritual work, meditation, and prayer. See my article on How To Relieve Stress – Meditate At The Right Time for details.
March 17: A new Moon in Pisces brings your best time all year to propose marriage or get a fresh start in your relationship if you’re already married, sign with an advisor or take on business partner, launch plans to counter competition, or promote peace. Also, Mars leaves expansive Sagittarius for earthy Capricorn in your creativity, love, and children house, igniting your desire to express yourself through the arts or play sports and giving you the energy and will to resolve concerns related to a child or romantic matter.
March 20: The Sun enters Aries, bringing a new astrological month, a new season, the spring equinox (fall equinox in the southern hemisphere), and a new spiritual year. Make time to meditate on this highly significant day and feel the joyful energy of new beginnings as the Sun lights up Aries. This "power day" offers natural energies supporting spiritual work and planning for the year ahead.
March 22: Your ruler, Mercury, goes retrograde in Aries. Use your powerful thoughts to overcome impatience and let yourself slow down, assess your financial situation and any needed improvements, review your spiritual practice, and explore your inner world. Wait until April 17 or later to sign contracts or start anything new. Get details on making the most of this period in my Mercury Retrograde Dates, Advice article.
March 23 and 24: Venus and the Sun in Aries make difficult alignments with Pluto and Mars in your creativity, romance, and children house. Your desire for a child may require you to overcome financial hurdles first, a love interest may create challenges, or your will to complete a creative project may not be enough to satisfy backers. Keep a low profile, avoid disputes, and put off discussions if possible. If something you’re working toward hits snags, step back and take a break. If someone challenges you, remain calm and take time to gather information facts before you respond.
March 28: Venus links happily with Uranus in Aries. Your intuition about a financial matter may improve your bottom line, or you may receive a gift or bonus or learn of an inheritance. Listen to inner guidance, act on hunches to contact lenders or mortgage brokers, and make time for meditation so you’re aligned with your inner self.
March 30: Venus leaves Aries for Taurus. You may attract international attention, or an overseas project could prove lucrative. Try a new cuisine, see a foreign film or art exhibit, or buy an imported item that pleases you.
March 31: A second full Moon this month arrives, this time in Libra. Something related to your job, possessions, or values will peak and give you clarity. This full Moon makes stressful alignments with several planets in your creativity, romance, and children house as well as the Sun and your ruler, Mercury, in your shared money house. Be cautious with these volatile energies, as hasty speech or actions could affect your job, security for an art collection or other valuables, a creative project, negotiations about alimony or child support, insurance, or a bonus or commission. Time with friends, networking, or attending events or group activities can act as safety valves to channel these powerful energies constructively. Also, remember that full Moons (and the day before and day after) favor spiritual work, so plan time for meditation and prayer.
As you can see, March is filled with high contrast—and wave after wave of high energies. Use the guidance here to ride this month’s waves so you can reach April’s shore with pride in how you handled March’s challenges and made the most of its many opportunities.
Happy March, Virgo! I wish you a wonderful month!
