Your Romance, Creativity, And Other Pleasures
As March begins, we have four planets in Pisces:
- The warm and powerful Sun, who always shines his light freely and generously to bring joy and optimism to our world
- Mercury, who governs thinking, communication, and commerce and brings playfulness and curiosity wherever he goes
- Venus, who governs love, beauty, and relationships—as well as money—and brings grace and sophistication to whatever she touches
- Neptune, who rules Pisces and governs dreams, the arts, and transcendent spirituality—and brings compassion, sensitivity, and an otherworldly quality to our lives
We also have a fifth player in Pisces, an asteroid called Chiron who is associated with where we feel wounded and how we heal and then help others based on our experiences. Chiron is well placed in Pisces, which is one of the signs associated with health.
Pisces is a water sign symbolized by the Fish: two fish swimming in opposite directions while bound together. Pisces helps us go beyond our individuality by enabling spiritual attunement, higher consciousness, and merging with creation’s essential unity. This gentle, sensitive sign allows us to sense higher truths through dreams and intuition. It also encourages us to apply these truths to help others through selfless service as well as inspire them through the arts, fantasy and other escapes from everyday life, and spiritual practices such as meditation.

For you, Scorpio, Pisces always activates your fifth house of children, creative projects and hobbies, and romance. All the Pisces planets bestow a magical air for meeting a new love interest or spicing up your marriage, spending time on your favorite hobby or sport, perfecting a creative venture, or sharing joys with children.
Your Health And Work
On March 5, Mercury will leave Pisces for Aries, followed by Venus’s entry into Aries on March 6. You’ll begin to feel the energies shift away from the watery, emotional realm of Pisces toward the fiery, "let’s get going" arena of Aries. On March 20, the Sun leaves Pisces for Aries, giving us the official start to the month of the Ram.
For you, Scorpio, planets in Aries add zest to your work life and desire for good health because they put fiery passion into your sixth house of health, job, and how you manage daily life. This area also governs pets and how you serve others: as soon as the Sun enters Aries, you may focus on a beloved animal or feel an urge to form better fitness habits or bring a spirit of devotion to what you do at work.
Equinox: Happy New (Spiritual And Astrological) Year!
The third week of March not only starts a new astrological month and sign but brings a new season: spring in the northern hemisphere and fall in the southern hemisphere.
Both seasons start when the amount of daylight equals the amount of darkness, making day and night last the same amount of time. Their start days come when the Sun enters Aries and when it enters the opposite sign, Libra, and are called the equinoxes. Both equinoxes offer special energies that support spirituality and meditation.
Aries, however, brings yet another gift: as the first sign of the zodiac, it starts the astrological year. According to sages and mystics, Aries also starts a new spiritual year. That makes March 20 even more powerful and important, and you can use its energies to create a new start for yourself.
Mercury Retrograde: Slow Down, Focus On "Re," Stay Flexible
Two days later, on March 22, our solar system’s smallest planet, Mercury, goes retrograde for three weeks, until April 15. From our vantage point on Earth, it will look like Mercury is moving backwards in the sky. Although it won’t actually be moving in reverse, this Mercury retrograde period will feel like all that is associated with Mercury will be in low gear or moving backwards.
Mercury rules everything related to communication, from computers and cell phones to speaking, writing, and listening. It also governs anything with moving parts, such as electronics, cars, and appliances.
When Mercury goes retrograde, generally three times a year for three weeks at a time, the areas it rules also slow down and often experience challenges.
This retrograde occurs in Aries, a fire sign that can be impulsive and impatient because it wants to go, go, GO! So we’ll feel a "push-pull" quality of wanting to keep pushing forward yet not being able to make much progress because communication and equipment may slow, break down, or pull us back to review past projects or problems.
Prepare now by backing up your computer and other devices and updating software in the first week of March. After that, you’ll begin to feel the slowdown and may see issues arise with equipment or interactions with other people.
During the retrograde, allow yourself to slow down. Avoid starting anything new, and don’t sign contracts because you won’t have all the facts or will miss something critical and have to rework the agreement later.
Instead, focus on anything "re": review, redo, rethink, recycle, reverse, restore, and so on. This is an excellent time to dust off a past project or idea and see what you can make of it. It’s also the perfect time to contact people from the past, clean closets, polish current work, or return to anything—or anywhere—you once enjoyed.

Plan Your Month: Important Dates
This month brings several key dates to watch as you plan your month. Mark your calendar and take action (or rest) as recommended on the dates listed here so your efforts can bring progress in all areas of your life.
March 1: A full Moon in Virgo lights your eleventh house of networking, friendship, clubs, and charities. Something will peak around this time related to a close friend or business associates or acquaintances, and you may realize you need to help a longtime pal or improve how you follow up after meeting people at events—especially fundraisers. Balance time with friends or volunteering with time for your hobbies or an important creative effort so your life fulfills you while meeting outreach and humanitarian goals. This day (and the day before and day after) favor spiritual work: plan time for meditation and prayer. See my article on How To Relieve Stress – Meditate At The Right Time for details.
March 2: Mercury in your creative an romantic fifth house forms a harmonious angle with Jupiter in your first house of personality, health and body, and personal projects. Ask one of your children to help you update your look or if you’re unattached use your powerful personality to attract a new love.
March 4: The Sun joins with Neptune and Mercury merges with
Venus, all in your creative fifth house. Consider how you express higher spiritual love in how you raise your children, use dreams or intuition to fuel an artistic breakthrough, and bring idealistic romance to your current love relationship.
March 5 and 6: Mercury and Venus leave Pisces for Aries. Feel your thoughts and emotions begin to shift from introspection to outward action.
March 8: Jupiter goes retrograde until July 10. This giant, optimistic planet entered your sign, Scorpio, on October 10, 2017, bringing expansion to your personality, good fortune in health matters, and favor for any project important to you personally. Perhaps you overcame a health concern, or you may have felt a desire to live large, become more noble, or start a project that helps others. With the retrograde, you have four months to review your character and personality to ensure they express your highest ideals, improve health, identify how to have more fun, and consider improvements for pet projects.
March 11: Mars makes a helpful angle with Uranus in Aries, while the Sun nods benevolently to your ruler, Pluto. Taking initiative at work can improve your earning power and relations with coworkers, and powerful local connections may help you with an arts project, locate a solution for a child’s education, or introduce you to a new romantic partner.
March 13: The Sun in your creative fifth house links to Jupiter in your personality house, shining a light on your talents, adding luster to your image, or inspiring you to help an artist or support an arts initiative.
March 13 – 17: The Moon enters its balsamic phase, the "dark of the Moon" time before the new Moon. Slow down, review the past month since the new Moon of February 15, and enjoy a bit of daydreaming about what you want to do in the coming month. Find out more about this mysterious monthly time in my Balsamic Moon Phase article. Also, this period is excellent for spiritual work, meditation, and prayer. See my article on How To Relieve Stress – Meditate At The Right Time for details.
March 17: A new Moon in Pisces brings your best time all year to try a new hobby, meet a new love, conceive a child, or begin work on your masterpiece. Also, Mars leaves expansive Sagittarius for earthy Capricorn in your sibling and communication house, stirring up matters related to brothers and sisters, adding zest to your speaking and writing style, and giving you the energy to resolve a transportation or commerce concern.
March 20: The Sun enters Aries, bringing a new astrological month, a new season, the spring equinox (fall equinox in the southern hemisphere), and a new spiritual year. Make time to meditate on this highly significant day and feel the joyful energy of new beginnings as the Sun lights up Aries. This "power day" offers natural energies supporting spiritual work and planning for the year ahead.
March 22: Mercury goes retrograde in Aries. Use your powerful thoughts to overcome impatience and let yourself slow down, assess your health and any needed improvements, review your dedication to serving others, give attention to pets, and rethink an important project. Wait until April 17 or later to sign contracts or start anything new. Get details on making the most of this period in my Mercury Retrograde Dates, Advice article.
March 23 and 24: Venus and the Sun in Aries make difficult alignments with Pluto and Mars in your communication and sibling house. Challenges with an older brother or sister could disrupt your routine or affect work commitments, or communications or travel with coworkers may hit snags. Avoid disputes and judgments and keep a low profile. If someone else criticizes you, or a text or email goes astray, stay calm and take a break to plot your next move. Collect more information and take your time before responding.
March 28: Venus links happily with Uranus in Aries. You may meet a new colleague whose technical skills challenge you constructively, or a staff meeting may yield the breakthrough needed to complete a stalled project. Listen to intuition and act on hunches.
March 30: Venus leaves Aries for Taurus. Your partner’s charms will attract you, and both of you will enjoy taking your relationship to a new and sensuous level. If you’re not married, Venus’s powers may help you smooth over disagreements with business partners or competitors.
March 31: A second full Moon this month arrives, this time in Libra. Something related to your health or spirituality will peak and give you clarity. This full Moon makes stressful alignments with several planets in your sibling and communication house as well as the Sun and Mercury in your work and fitness house. Be cautious with these volatile energies, as hasty speech or actions could affect your health, job, relationships with siblings or cousins, or spiritual practice. Studying (if you’re working on a degree) or time planning an overseas trip, talking to friendly international contacts, or mulling over philosophical matters can act as safety valves to channel these powerful energies constructively. Also, remember that full Moons (and the day before and day after) favor spiritual work, so plan time for meditation and prayer.
As you can see, March is filled with high contrast—and wave after wave of high energies. Use the guidance here to ride this month’s waves so you can reach April’s shore with pride in how you handled March’s challenges and made the most of its many opportunities.
Happy March, Scorpio! I wish you a wonderful month!
