March Astrology – Headline News
Your Home, Family, And Parents
As March begins, we have four planets in Pisces:
- The warm and powerful Sun, who always shines his light freely and generously to bring joy and optimism to our world
- Mercury, who governs thinking, communication, and commerce and brings playfulness and curiosity wherever he goes
- Venus, who governs love, beauty, and relationships—as well as money—and brings grace and sophistication to whatever she touches
- Neptune, who rules Pisces and governs dreams, the arts, and transcendent spirituality—and brings compassion, sensitivity, and an otherworldly quality to our lives
We also have a fifth player in Pisces, an asteroid called Chiron who is associated with where we feel wounded and how we heal and then help others based on our experiences. Chiron is well placed in Pisces, which is one of the signs associated with health.
Pisces is a water sign symbolized by the Fish: two fish swimming in opposite directions while bound together. Pisces helps us go beyond our individuality by enabling spiritual attunement, higher consciousness, and merging with creation’s essential unity. This gentle, sensitive sign allows us to sense higher truths through dreams and intuition. It also encourages us to apply these truths to help others through selfless service as well as inspire them through the arts, fantasy and other escapes from everyday life, and spiritual practices such as meditation.

For you, Sagittarius, Pisces always activates your fourth house of family, home and security, property, and parents. All the Pisces planets will inspire new desires to improve your home, upgrade property, spend time with loved ones, and connect to your roots and spiritual depth through genealogy or conversations with parents.
Your Children, Romance, And Creativity
On March 5, Mercury will leave Pisces for Aries, followed by Venus’s entry into Aries on March 6. You’ll begin to feel the energies shift away from the watery, emotional realm of Pisces toward the fiery, "let’s get going" arena of Aries. On March 20, the Sun leaves Pisces for Aries, giving us the official start to the month of the Ram.
For you, Sagittarius, planets in Aries set your pulse racing in romance and initiate new creative power because they put fiery passion into your fifth house of love, pleasure, and self-expression. This area also governs children and your inner child: as soon as the Sun enters Aries, you may feel moved to conceive a child, start an epic artwork, attract a new love, or enjoy a new sport or hobby.
Equinox: Happy New (Spiritual And Astrological) Year!
The third week of March not only starts a new astrological month and sign but brings a new season: spring in the northern hemisphere and fall in the southern hemisphere.
Both seasons start when the amount of daylight equals the amount of darkness, making day and night last the same amount of time. Their start days come when the Sun enters Aries and when it enters the opposite sign, Libra, and are called the equinoxes. Both equinoxes offer special energies that support spirituality and meditation.
Aries, however, brings yet another gift: as the first sign of the zodiac, it starts the astrological year. According to sages and mystics, Aries also starts a new spiritual year. That makes March 20 even more powerful and important, and you can use its energies to create a new start for yourself.
Mercury Retrograde: Slow Down, Focus On "Re," Stay Flexible
Two days later, on March 22, our solar system’s smallest planet, Mercury, goes retrograde for three weeks, until April 15. From our vantage point on Earth, it will look like Mercury is moving backwards in the sky. Although it won’t actually be moving in reverse, this Mercury retrograde period will feel like all that is associated with Mercury will be in low gear or moving backwards.
Mercury rules everything related to communication, from computers and cell phones to speaking, writing, and listening. It also governs anything with moving parts, such as electronics, cars, and appliances.
When Mercury goes retrograde, generally three times a year for three weeks at a time, the areas it rules also slow down and often experience challenges.
This retrograde occurs in Aries, a fire sign that can be impulsive and impatient because it wants to go, go, GO! So we’ll feel a "push-pull" quality of wanting to keep pushing forward yet not being able to make much progress because communication and equipment may slow, break down, or pull us back to review past projects or problems.
Prepare now by backing up your computer and other devices and updating software in the first week of March. After that, you’ll begin to feel the slowdown and may see issues arise with equipment or interactions with other people.
During the retrograde, allow yourself to slow down. Avoid starting anything new, and don’t sign contracts because you won’t have all the facts or will miss something critical and have to rework the agreement later.
Instead, focus on anything "re": review, redo, rethink, recycle, reverse, restore, and so on. This is an excellent time to dust off a past project or idea and see what you can make of it. It’s also the perfect time to contact people from the past, clean closets, polish current work, or return to anything—or anywhere—you once enjoyed.

Plan Your Month: Important Dates
This month brings several key dates to watch as you plan your month. Mark your calendar and take action (or rest) as recommended on the dates listed here so your efforts can bring progress in all areas of your life.
March 1: A full Moon in Virgo lights your tenth house of career, public honors, and community leadership. Something will peak around this time for your professional life, and you may receive an award or realize you need to improve your management style or adjust a key project. Balance time on work ambitions with time at home or with family so you feel well supported and ready to take your place within your company or industry. This day (and the day before and day after) favor spiritual work: plan time for meditation and prayer. See my article on How To Relieve Stress – Meditate At The Right Time for details.
March 2: Mercury in your home and family house forms a harmonious angle with your ruler, Jupiter, in your twelfth house of privacy, health, and spirituality. Take steps to safeguard sensitive personal data for yourself and all family members and work spiritually to improve a home or real estate challenge because your efforts can make a real difference now.
March 4: The Sun joins with Neptune and Mercury merges with Venus, all in your fourth house of home. Consider how you can express higher spiritual love to family members to make home life a dream come true, trust intuition about real estate, and tap your artistic sensibilities on a decorating project.
March 5 and 6: Mercury and Venus leave Pisces for Aries. Feel your thoughts and emotions begin to shift from introspection to outward action.
March 8: Jupiter, your ruler, goes retrograde until July 10. This giant, optimistic planet entered Scorpio on October 10, 2017, bringing expansion to your house of solitude, health, and spirituality. Perhaps you have spent more time alone since then, or you may have expanded your meditation practice or met with a new clinician to resolve a sensitive health concern. With the retrograde, you have four months to review your health, rethink spiritual approaches, and consider changes or improvements if needed.
March 11: Mars makes a helpful angle with Uranus in Aries, while the Sun nods benevolently to Pluto. Acting quickly on creative projects or matters related to children or romance can bring breakthrough results, and your earning power or valuables may allow you to move to a new home or update your current space.
March 13: The Sun in your fourth house of property links to your ruler, Jupiter, in your most private house, indicating intuition or messages in dreams may hold the key to settling a real estate concern or could help you create inspiring new decor at home.
March 13 – 17: The Moon enters its balsamic phase, the "dark of the Moon" time before the new Moon. Slow down, review the past month since the new Moon of February 15, and enjoy a bit of daydreaming about what you want to do in the coming month. Find out more about this mysterious monthly time in my Balsamic Moon Phase article. Also, this period is excellent for spiritual work, meditation, and prayer. See my article on How To Relieve Stress – Meditate At The Right Time for details.
March 17: A new Moon in Pisces brings your best time all year to start anything related to real estate, family, helping parents, or exploring genealogy. Also, Mars leaves expansive Sagittarius for earthy Capricorn in your earning and values house, sparking your will to organize or appraise possessions, improve your job or get a new one, or align work with your spiritual values.
March 20: The Sun enters Aries, bringing a new astrological month, a new season, the spring equinox (fall equinox in the southern hemisphere), and a new spiritual year. Make time to meditate on this highly significant day and feel the joyful energy of new beginnings as the Sun lights up Aries. This "power day" offers natural energies supporting spiritual work and planning for the year ahead.
March 22: Mercury goes retrograde in Aries. Use your powerful thoughts to overcome impatience and let yourself slow down, assess your relationships with children (and your own inner child), review art projects, hobbies, and pleasures, and reconnect with past loves if you’re unattached and want some sparkle in your romantic life. Wait until April 17 or later to sign contracts or start anything new. Get details on making the most of this period in my Mercury Retrograde Dates, Advice article.
March 23 and 24: Venus and the Sun in Aries make difficult alignments with Pluto and Mars in your money house. You may feel caught between a need to earn more money and spend time with children, or older or powerful people at work could criticize a creative project. Keep a low profile and avoid disputes and jumping to conclusions. If you feel stressed or challenged by others, take a break and stay calm in discussions and put off sensitive negotiations for now. Gather all the facts before acting or responding.
March 28: Venus links happily with Uranus in Aries. A child’s talent could surprise you, an unusual hobby or sport could beckon, or you may meet a new love in an odd setting. Heed hunches related to creative relationships and projects.
March 30: Venus leaves Aries for Taurus. Work relationships will become more enjoyable, and you may decide to redecorate your office. Try dance or yoga to enhance fitness while creating greater suppleness and grace.
March 31: A second full Moon this month arrives, this time in Libra. Something related to your friends, charitable work, or a club membership will peak and give you clarity. This full Moon makes stressful alignments with several planets in your earning and values house as well as the Sun and Mercury in your children and creativity house. Be cautious with these volatile energies, as hasty speech or actions could affect relationships with children, friends, business associates, or bosses as well as job, creative, and networking opportunities. Time working on joint financial matters, studying life’s deep mysteries, or meditating to connect with your soul can act as safety valves to channel these powerful energies constructively. Also, remember that full Moons (and the day before and day after) favor spiritual work, so plan time for meditation and prayer.
As you can see, March is filled with high contrast—and wave after wave of high energies. Use the guidance here to ride this month’s waves so you can reach April’s shore with pride in how you handled March’s challenges and made the most of its many opportunities.
Happy March, Sagittarius! I wish you a wonderful month!
