Your Money And Values
As March begins, we have four planets in Pisces:
- The warm and powerful Sun, who always shines his light freely and generously to bring joy and optimism to our world
- Mercury, who governs thinking, communication, and commerce and brings playfulness and curiosity wherever he goes
- Venus, who governs love, beauty, and relationships—as well as money—and brings grace and sophistication to whatever she touches
- Neptune, who rules Pisces and governs dreams, the arts, and transcendent spirituality—and brings compassion, sensitivity, and an otherworldly quality to our lives
We also have a fifth player in Pisces, an asteroid called Chiron who is associated with where we feel wounded and how we heal and then help others based on our experiences. Chiron is well placed in Pisces, which is one of the signs associated with health.
Pisces is a water sign symbolized by the Fish: two fish swimming in opposite directions while bound together. Pisces helps us go beyond our individuality by enabling spiritual attunement, higher consciousness, and merging with creation’s essential unity. This gentle, sensitive sign allows us to sense higher truths through dreams and intuition. It also encourages us to apply these truths to help others through selfless service as well as inspire them through the arts, fantasy and other escapes from everyday life, and spiritual practices such as meditation.

For you, Aquarius, Pisces always activates your second house of earned income, possessions, and values. All the Pisces planets will help you improve your financial situation, see your job in new ways and consider how it aligns (or doesn’t) with your spiritual values, and take stock of what you own and how you organize it.
Your Communication, Siblings, And Travel
On March 5, Mercury will leave Pisces for Aries, followed by Venus’s entry into Aries on March 6. You’ll begin to feel the energies shift away from the watery, emotional realm of Pisces toward the fiery, "let’s get going" arena of Aries. On March 20, the Sun leaves Pisces for Aries, giving us the official start to the month of the Ram.
For you, Aquarius, planets in Aries put power into your speech, writing, and thinking because they put fiery passion into your third house of communication—including body language and gestures. This area also governs your brothers and sisters, short trips, and your early education: as soon as the Sun enters Aries, you may feel a desire to call a sibling, plan a quick getaway, or visit a beloved teacher from grammar school.
Equinox: Happy New (Spiritual And Astrological) Year!
The third week of March not only starts a new astrological month and sign but brings a new season: spring in the northern hemisphere and fall in the southern hemisphere.
Both seasons start when the amount of daylight equals the amount of darkness, making day and night last the same amount of time. Their start days come when the Sun enters Aries and when it enters the opposite sign, Libra, and are called the equinoxes. Both equinoxes offer special energies that support spirituality and meditation.
Aries, however, brings yet another gift: as the first sign of the zodiac, it starts the astrological year. According to sages and mystics, Aries also starts a new spiritual year. That makes March 20 even more powerful and important, and you can use its energies to create a new start for yourself.
Mercury Retrograde: Slow Down, Focus On "Re," Stay Flexible
Two days later, on March 22, our solar system’s smallest planet, Mercury, goes retrograde for three weeks, until April 15. From our vantage point on Earth, it will look like Mercury is moving backwards in the sky. Although it won’t actually be moving in reverse, this Mercury retrograde period will feel like all that is associated with Mercury will be in low gear or moving backwards.
Mercury rules everything related to communication, from computers and cell phones to speaking, writing, and listening. It also governs anything with moving parts, such as electronics, cars, and appliances.
When Mercury goes retrograde, generally three times a year for three weeks at a time, the areas it rules also slow down and often experience challenges.
This retrograde occurs in Aries, a fire sign that can be impulsive and impatient because it wants to go, go, GO! So we’ll feel a "push-pull" quality of wanting to keep pushing forward yet not being able to make much progress because communication and equipment may slow, break down, or pull us back to review past projects or problems.
Prepare now by backing up your computer and other devices and updating software in the first week of March. After that, you’ll begin to feel the slowdown and may see issues arise with equipment or interactions with other people.
During the retrograde, allow yourself to slow down. Avoid starting anything new, and don’t sign contracts because you won’t have all the facts or will miss something critical and have to rework the agreement later.
Instead, focus on anything "re": review, redo, rethink, recycle, reverse, restore, and so on. This is an excellent time to dust off a past project or idea and see what you can make of it. It’s also the perfect time to contact people from the past, clean closets, polish current work, or return to anything—or anywhere—you once enjoyed.

Plan Your Month: Important Dates
This month brings several key dates to watch as you plan your month. Mark your calendar and take action (or rest) as recommended on the dates listed here so your efforts can bring progress in all areas of your life.
March 1: A full Moon in Virgo lights your eighth house of life’s great mysteries as well as shared money such as loans, mortgages, child support, and lump sum amounts from gifts or bonuses. Something will peak around this time for you and your financial or mystical life, and you may realize you need to improve your bottom line or start meditating to explore your inner life. Balance time spent fixing finances with time perfecting work projects and organizing your closets or collectibles so your total financial picture expresses harmony and supports a well rounded life. This day (and the day before and day after) favor spiritual work: plan time for meditation and prayer. See my article on How To Relieve Stress – Meditate At The Right Time for details.
March 2: Mercury in your second house of money forms a harmonious angle with Jupiter in your tenth house of career and honors. You may hear news of an award for you or your department that includes a cash component, or a mentor may recommend you for a well paying promotion.
March 4: The Sun joins with Neptune and Mercury merges with Venus all in your second house of money and values. Consider how your livelihood reflects your values and expresses higher spiritual love. Also, heed all hunches about how to earn more money or better manage what you earn—and own.
March 5 and 6: Mercury and Venus leave Pisces for Aries. Feel your thoughts and emotions begin to shift from introspection to outward action.
March 8: Jupiter goes retrograde until July 10. This giant, optimistic planet entered Scorpio on October 10, 2017, bringing expansion to your house of career, public honors, community standing, and legacy. Perhaps you ran for office since then, or you may have stepped into a joyful new role at work or won a coveted award. With the retrograde, you have four months to review your professional life, give thanks for how it allows you to serve others, explore how to leave a legacy, and consider changes or improvements if needed.
March 11: Mars makes a helpful angle with your ruler, Uranus, in Aries, while the Sun nods benevolently to Pluto. Taking initiative in communication with friends can re-energize relationships and make life more fun, and powerful people at work can help you with a behind the scenes project.
March 13: The Sun in your money and values house links to Jupiter in your career house, putting a flattering spotlight on your job performance and inspiring you to bring your highest values to your leadership and longterm career strategy.
March 13 – 17: The Moon enters its balsamic phase, the "dark of the Moon" time before the new Moon. Slow down, review the past month since the new Moon of February 15, and enjoy a bit of daydreaming about what you want to do in the coming month. Find out more about this mysterious monthly time in my Balsamic Moon Phase article. Also, this period is excellent for spiritual work, meditation, and prayer. See my article on How To Relieve Stress – Meditate At The Right Time for details.
March 17: A new Moon in Pisces brings your best time all year to contact valuable connections about getting a better job, start something new to increase your income, align your values to the work you do, and buy, appraise, or sell luxury items such as jewelry and art. Also, Mars leaves expansive Sagittarius for earthy Capricorn in your privacy and health house, firing up your desire for solitude or time to work on secret projects and giving you the energy to resolve a health concern, organize a personal retreat to a secluded spot, or begin working with a therapist to overcome psychological challenges.
March 20: The Sun enters Aries, bringing a new astrological month, a new season, the spring equinox (fall equinox in the southern hemisphere), and a new spiritual year. Make time to meditate on this highly significant day and feel the joyful energy of new beginnings as the Sun lights up Aries. This "power day" offers natural energies supporting spiritual work and planning for the year ahead.
March 22: Mercury goes retrograde in Aries. Use your powerful thoughts to overcome impatience and let yourself slow down, assess your relationships with siblings, review how you think and communicate, schedule car repairs, and take a short trip to renew yourself. Wait until April 17 or later to sign contracts or start anything new. Get details on making the most of this period in my Mercury Retrograde Dates, Advice article.
March 23 and 24: Venus and the Sun in Aries make difficult alignments with Pluto and Mars in your privacy, hidden projects, and psychology house. Your desire to make progress on a communication project you need to keep under wraps may feel at odds with demands from VIPs, or a concern related to brothers and sisters may face interference from an older or powerful relative who meddles behind the scenes. Keep a low profile and avoid disputes or making assumptions. If anything hits snags, take a break to clear your head, and if someone challenges you, remain calm and take time to gather facts before responding.
March 28: Venus links happily with your ruler, Uranus, in Aries. Your artful, brilliant communications will impress others at work or help you in conversations with brothers and sisters. Let your inner self speak through you for best results, let idealism rule, and make time for meditation.
March 30: Venus leaves Aries for Taurus. Home will beckon, and its charms will have you enjoying time there with loved ones. Update your space by planning a remodeling project or buying a beautiful item to dress up your decor.
March 31: A second full Moon this month arrives, this time in Libra. Something related to higher education, long distance travel, international matters such as visas or immigration, or your faith and beliefs will peak and give you clarity. This full Moon makes stressful alignments with several planets in your spirituality and health house as well as the Sun and Mercury in your sibling and communication house. Be cautious with these volatile energies, as hasty speech or actions could affect travel, communications, study or a dissertation, sibling relationships, secret projects, health, or a major publishing or broadcasting project. Time at work enjoying colleagues, working out, cooking a healthful meal, or enjoying yoga or other body-mind practices can act as safety valves to channel these powerful energies constructively. Also, remember that full Moons (and the day before and day after) favor spiritual work, so plan time for meditation and prayer.
As you can see, March is filled with high contrast—and wave after wave of high energies. Use the guidance here to ride this month’s waves so you can reach April’s shore with pride in how you handled March’s challenges and made the most of its many opportunities.
Happy March, Aquarius! I wish you a wonderful month!
